Good Day, I have a very odd problem with my 'system'. I say 'system' because I am not sure whether the problem lies in IE, or windows or malware or modem.

The symptom is this, my internet dies as soon as I visit rapidshare.com.

ANY other website I go to will not effect the internet like visiting rapidshare. My internet works fine for everything, eg BF2, IE, IRC, email, but as soon as I visit rapidshare the internet connection is suddenly lost. Lets say I visit rapidshare then try Whirlpool, it will say server not found. This problem does not exist for other sharing sites like megaupload.

If the internet dies I'll have to reset the modem to get it back again.

This never happened before yesterday. I'll have to explain that there was an odd event yesterday. I leave my pc running during the day, in the morning I left the PC uploading and downloading to/from rapidshare as well as the download manager to kick in after the rapidshare DL's finished.

When I came home from work, I found that the all the downloads died half way and nothing was uploaded and the internet died.

I ran a scan (normal mode only) with SpyBot S&D and LavaSoft AdAware.

It found some adware / malware like Aureate, but I deleted them.

Yet this problem was still persisting.

I would dearly like to have this fixed because I was actually going to sign up for their premium service!

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

I am running XP SP2, with a D-Link 502T modem, I have Adaware and Spybot to find adware / malware and Avast for virus protection.

rapidshare cuts out for me about 70% of the time.. I don't lose connection to the net, the download just stops for no reason.

Its not about the cut-out unforunately...I wish it was.

Perhaps someoen could suggest a diagnostic tool that may help identify the problems faced here?

well i cant offer anything as far as help on this because i have never heard of this type of problem before, and that being lost internet connection simply loading up 1 website.

can i suggest that you call your service provider (if you havent already) and mention it to them, and they can log into your account and maybe get you to open rapidshare and may well be able to see what might be going on.

i have a premium rapidshare account that i pay $60 a year for and if this was just a simple problem of your downloads cutting out like another poster mentioned you would be able to accept that to a degree as it would more likely happen with the free use downloads, but certainly should never happen with premium accounts, and i have never had any rapidshare download cut out on me at any time.

all i can say is good luck with the mystery and hope you can resolve it.

What happens if you go into rapidshare using firefox browser? Same thing happens?
I don't mean that you should use another browser. But if you don't lose internet connection with another browser, then at least you can narrow things down a bit.

I had similar, (Not the same) . Downloads would not complete and some pages like whirlpool would slow load or fail to load. After much soul searching i discovered there was a problem with the D-Link router. I connected to the Speedstream direct and problem resolved. Now i havent worked out if its the D-Link modem itself or the USB dongle.
