Here's a run down of the problem;
We are running a microsoft exchange server, staff are using Outlook 2003 and using Symantec Mail Security over HTTP.
Peter (an external client) is running Computer Associates on a standalone desktop at his home.
A staff member (call her anne) has been recieving emails from Peter. He has sent numerous emails with various attachments, to both mine and Anne's work addresses and the files are becoming corrupted along the way. File types in question are pdf's, jpg's, doc's and zip files. I have tested sending these exact same files from my home address and also my hotmail address to my work address, and they always come through fine. I have also had Peter send the emails to my home address and my hotmail address and they come through fine.
I've have ruled out Symantec Mail Security to be the cause of the issue, as I turned it off and had him try sending the files again, same problem occurred.
And I have also checked that Peter is using the same encoding to send and recieve emails I am.
If anyone has any clue as to what other things could be causing this I would be very interested to hear.

Cheers
Jason

I've got the same problem, but from the other side. For several years I've been sending email attachments to particular organisations using Outlook Express. Then, around mid-September, my attachments began arriving at their addresses as corrupted files. The common factor amongst all the addresses where my attachments arrive corrupted is that they all run microsoft exchange server V 6.5. I can send the same email with attachment to two addresses - it will arrive corrupted at the address running exchange and intact at the other address.
I have tried changing to Outlook and, after contacting Microsoft help and following their advice, have tried setting up a new user account and reinstalling Office. So far nothing has helped the situation.
I have never used microsoft exchange and know nothing about how it operates. But, it does seem to be the common factor amongst the recipients that now cannot receive my attachments.
Has anyone else encountered a problem with attachments sent to receivers running exchange?
Was there was an upgrade to exchange around mid-September?
Cheers,
Kale

Does Peter use CA Internet Security Suite 2007? After trying several things to try and overcome the problem of attachments becoming corrupted when sent to clients running a microsoft exchange server, what finally worked for me was disabling the CA personal firewall while sending the email.

This also worked for a friend who had the same problem.

Kale

Hey,i have came with the same problem as you, and i think you can try a popular Outlook recovery tool called Advanced Outlook Repair to repair your PST file. It is a powerful tool to recover messages, folders and other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsoft Outlook PST files. More detailed information about Advanced Outlook Repair can be found at www.datanumen.com/aor

I have the same problem with some (but not all) attachments being corrupted and unreadable by the receiver. When I turn off my CA Firewall, attachments are received just fine. Likewise, this problem started in about September of 2007. The problem happens with either Outlook Express or Thunderbird, which makes me think it's not the outbound mail client that's causing the problem. Does anyone have this problem with any Firewall other than CA?

FINALLY - i have been having this problem for over a year and i am please to finally find others.
For me the problem is this. any pdf i create on my pc becomes corrupt when i email to another party. to fix this i have to turn off CA personal Fire wall once it is off, not a single problem. But this is very annoying as i like to be protected.
Any pdf that i received from another source can be forwarded with problem. it started occuring within days of me installing CA security suite - an upgrade from their old VET - i loved vet, never a single problem. this new one caused me no end of problems. anyway i spent many hours on the phone and on email with their tech support to no avail. if anyone has an answer to this annoying problem, please please share.
