Hi

I have a mobile on a Virgin contract. I wish to pay that off early. I will give this phone to one of my kids on prepaid.

Now if I pay it off early and go to prepaid, can I keep my existing number ?

What about if I go to Optus PP, can I keep my old Virgin number ?

Yes. I did this with Virgin two years ago, there was no problem.

Not sure about this one, but would think you could once again keep the number.

No reason you can't. Just ask optus to port it for you and they will end your account with Virgin for you, who will then send you out a final bill.

OK I had planned to go to the Virgin store in Brookvale tomorrow, pay off the phone and then go to Optus .

My concern was that once the phone is paid, the contract is cancelled and the number dies with the contract.

What you have told me has been helpful. Thanks.

Glad I could be of assistance...

Yeah, just remeber to port first, otherwise you will lose your number.
Porting to Optus will automatically end your account with Virgin and you get to keep your number :)

I just spent 35 minutes on the phone waiting to speak to a human at Virgin.

The gave me some good news, that I can go to the Brookvale store, pay off the phone, and have it on prepaid all from the store. I dont even have to bring the phone, it keeps the same sim card and just gets transfered to Virgin PP right there.

I feel happy that this complex (in my mind) matter can be resolved quite well.

I have needed to make 3 calls to Virgin humans this week and each with a similar amount of time on hold. The first call was to fix up a number transfer for a new phone but it turn out they cannot transfer one Virgin phone to another account.

Unfortunately, the first Virgin person put in process a chain of events that needed 2 more calls to fix.

One thing though is that they are always very helpful (even if sometimes misdirected as in the first operator) and they gave me a $15 credit to one of my phones to make up for the mess.
