Ok to I upgraded to ilife 08 and when I started iphoto up is automatically created events for me.

Anyone figure out how to delete the events it created ? I tried the following:
---------------------------------- ------
To delete an Event:

Select the Event, then do one of the following:

◼ Press Command-Delete.

◼ Drag the Event to iPhoto Trash.

◼ Choose Photos > “Move to Trash.”

---------------------------------- ------

But it deleted the photo's , which is what I DONT want.

you need somewhere for the photos to go if you get rid of the events they are in. events are basically just the new form of "film rolls" from versions of old.

you can just view the photos if you want by clicking on the "Photos" option under Library on the left [it's under the "Events" option]. this will show them in the old-school film rolls view.

you can drag and drop photos from one event to another, and then get rid of the original event. you have to do that in the Photos view.

Delete the event, then drag the photos out of the Trash (the Trash icon inside iPhoto, not your real Trash) to wherever you like (an existing album, or a new album).

Well it seems that I'm not the only suffering from this problem and there doesn't seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel

After reading others complaints, it seems that a photo has to be bound to an event. Still looking

Download the Ilife08 tutorial video off Apple's website. It explains all this really well.

It sounds like you're needing to merge the photos in multiple events into just one event.

Select a couple of events and go up to the Events menu and choose Merge.

Which seems similar to the way you could drag photos from a roll into another roll and the empty roll would then vanish

OK the problem is very simple. I don't want the automatic Events that iphoto created. I want to delete all the events that it create and create my own events. Just like you can do with albums. You can create your albums then add photo's them. If you don't like the album you delete. It doesn't delete the photo's

I select all the my events and click delete, it moves ALL my photo's to the trash. If I then move all my photo's from the trash back to my library, it re-creates the events.

So the question is how do you delete events without deleting the photo's ? It doesn't look like you can since every photo must be bound to an event.

Can you rename events?

Start again (this might not be so easy!) with a new iPhoto install and there is an option for it NOT to auto-create events - you can manage them manually

You would have thought that during the upgrade it would have asked if I wanted manual or automatic.

I think the solution is iLife07

just make a new event, called "Photos" and move all of your photos into it. Then delete all the old events [they might delete themselves automagically if there's no photos in them]. Problem solved.

Events are the basic form of grouping in 08.

If you don't like the way it works, why not just use some merging and renaming to break up your library into events such as "2004", "2005" and so on.

Again I would encourage you to download an watch the iLife08 tutorial off apple's site.

Should clear everything up in minutes.

Once you get used to the new paradigm, the events system is fantastic and logical.

You seem to be thinking events are like albums - they are not.

An itunes analogy -

Iphoto Albums = iTunes playlists.
iPhoto Events = iTunes albums.

Locate an album in iTunes. Say Coldplay: Yellow. Delete this and and it's totally gone from your library.

However if you delete the same list of Coldplay songs from a playlist, the actual album remains intact in your library.

Create a new event called "non-event"... and put all your non event photos in there.
