Try Kmplayer. Its works flawlessly for me plus it should be in the repos. |

OP said simple, but for the furture good of mankind...some Realmedia files will only play with realplayer properly (and I mean with sound as opposed to without or at all). |

Yes as the others have said mplayer or vlc player will both play your rmvb files and there both in synaptic so just install whichever you prefer |

MPlayer is very good, plays pretty much everything except has no GUI w32codecs is useful, but won't play real. |
