Hi folks. I'm sure I read a post just the other day on extending the ring time on a mobile before it would divert to voicemail. Blessed if I can find it now.
There is an old thread on this topic, but it's archived now.
The question does seem to pop up occasionally, so I thought I'd put in here what I know of the subject. I had this very question today for my new Vodafone service.
It seems all networks support only options between 5 and 30 seconds, in 5 second increments. So, in each case XX is a number between 5 and 30 that is a multiple of 5.
Vodafone * * 61 * [voicemail no] * * XX # SEND (for diversion to voicemail) * * 61 * 0414122000 * * XX # SEND (for diversion to CALLminder) Diversions (call-forwarding) and cancellations, and call barring can also be set using GSM dial codes .
B Digital * * 61 * 321 * * XX # SEND
Optus * * 61 * 321 * * XX # SEND
Telstra * * 61 * 101 * * XX # SEND or Contact Telstra Mobile on 125 111 for assistance. (Real helpful.)
3 * * 61 * 0430005333 * * XX # SEND or * * 61 * 333 * * XX # SEND
Feel free to add any others!

Or you could go into a Telstra Shop.
(Anybody with access to the Helpdesk platform will be able to change the diversion time for you).

Telstra is

EDIT: Its the same for all networks **(Diversion Code)*(Diversion Number)**(Delay)#
On most handsets your able to change this in call diversion settings.

Divert calls when out of coverage or phone turned off
**62*voicemail number# SEND
Divert calls when you are "busy" (you press red button)
**67*voicemail number# SEND
Deactivate ALL diverts (so your phone will never divert even if your phone is off!)
##002# SEND

**61*333**30#
reads in english as
When there is no answer (61) divert to phone number 333 after a 30 second delay
It's nothing to do with the country code, 61 indicates "no answer", 62 indicates "no coverage/phone off", 67 indicates "when phone is busy" etc
Any country codes will be in the voicemail number...

Ahhh...I see! (I used to be with Vodafone many years ago on 2G, and back then they provided thick, detailed and informative brochures on the network. I remember several pages full of call-forwarding and time extension codes. Silly me, I chucked it only 22 months ago when I went to 3. I know there's reason why I hoard so much stuff...sooner or later it comes in handy!)
So, this table on Vodafone's site makes sense now. It lists the following diversion codes:
All Calls 21 No Answer 61 Unreachable 62 Engaged Call Type Codes 67 All Call Types 10 Voice calls 11 Mobile Terminating Fax Calls 13 Mobile Terminating Fax Data 20
(Does anyone even use fax calls on handsets anymore?)

Darkiris, you seem to have a good handle on this. Each network seems to use the GSM code, and then 3 numbers, except for Vodafone. Some of the stuff I found on websites had 10-digit numbers as well.
Is that because a 10-digit number will work, and the last 3 digits will also do the trick?
If so, does that mean Vodafone's divert number could also be * * 61 * 000 * * XX # SEND?
I get a little paranoid about mucking with things that have triple-zeros in 'em if I don't know what I'm doing.

hehehe well no with vodafone you're going to need all the digits
See with 3 they have two separate numbers
but they both dial to voicemail from a 3 simcard
now you try dialing 000 from your simcard ;)
That being said i can't generalise for all because i only know 3, because i have a 3 phone. But when you ring up customer care they generally insist you use the longer number and not the three digit one. I have no idea why though... (my guess is that the shorter phone number diverts to the longer one but don't quote me!)
So in anycase the longer version is always best!

At least they offer assistance, your other carrier info suggests they DON'T offer assistance.

This isn't the code to extend the ring time for voicemail. If I'm not mistaken (I'm not at work, so I can't check) 0414122000 is the number for CALLminder - so if you use this code, you'll divert your phone to the "the number you are calling is not available, if you want to send you number as a txt etc etc etc" service.
To divert to voicemail, you need to put your voicemail box number in place of 0414122000.
Each Vodafone customer has a unique vmb number, To find your vmb number, call customer care, or if your phone supports it, go into the call diversion menu, choose a diversion you have active to voicemail, check status, and check the number it's diverting to.
That's the number you need to use.

Michael, this isn't a fanboi thread. If you can't be bothered checking the info regarding other carriers and have nothing constructive to say, then don't offer yet another pointless post.
I did check the websites of the different carriers, and there is nothing to suggest any of them wouldn't help a customer who rings asking for advice. I know Vodafone does do it, because I asked them. But I am also quite happy to do it myself, and find it easier to do so without having to navigate through a menu and wait in a call queue.

Thanks daisy. Good point. I did wonder about that briefly last night, but then forget to look it up. Too many late nights does that!

Is this it? Optus offer something called Missed Call Service .
According to its website, these are your options to set it up:
1. From your mobile – just dial 159 & follow the prompts 2. From the web – go to Optus Zoo, register or login and click on My Phone and then click on My Missed Call Service. You may then select the Missed Call Service settings request you would like. Note, you must be a registered Optus Zoo customer by SMS – using your mobile phone’s keypad, type ON or OFF and send the message to 159. 3. By SMS - using your mobile phone's keypad, type ON or OFF and send the message to 159.

What do you mean, "overseas"? As in, you want to divert your calls overseas?
At a guess, you'd do that like this:
**61*[overseas number in international format]**25#

Instead of fiddling with all these numbers, why has no one suggested to go into Call Diverts in the phone, selecting Call Divert No Answer, set the voicemail number and time that way?
Much easier than trying to remember how many *** to press and which number.

Sorry, should have clarified. I will be travelling overseas in August, and was wondering if there is a code that will enable it to divert to voicemail automatically if I'm not in Australia

Yeah, just use the codes for your carrier as above, selecting the divert-all-call option, diverting to your voicemail.

Mind you though, we've been advised never to set it longer than 25 secs (on telstra), cos apparently 30 secs screws with things.
