What codec is the video using?

Get yourself a copy of the ever so helpful software, and subtly named, Gspot, to identify the audio codec.

Once you have found out what audio codec it is using, visit Google and download it. Restart Windows Media Player and try again.

It could be a few possible reasons:

1) WMP is on mute

2) Codecs need re-installed

3) A different sound device is selected in WMP options.

Could be a few other reasons but that's somewhere to start :P

it's audio is
Windows Media Audio 9.1
8 kbps, 8 kHz, mono (A/V) 1-pass CBR
which means you need windows media player 9 or later to listen/watch.

They just said: "We apologise that we are unable to bring you audio from the house... blah blah blah". This means they are having technical difficulties supplying the audio, so just relax!

Lots of people including me seem to be having this problem recently. I think it may be related to a recent Microsoft Update.

If I download the streaming file (using NetXfer), it plays fine in Windows Media Player, sound and all, so I don't think it can be a codec issue. But the same file streaming online has no sound. Same on all the sites I have tried (bbc, cnn etc).

I've tried the advice on here:

mowgreen.castlecops.com/...0872_instal.html

as people seem to be having similar problems relate to Microsoft update KB920872

I'm having this problem also... I've tried the advice about the update, and it did not work... I've uninstalled media player and still no luck... the file I'm trying to play shows the audio codec needed is Windows Media Audio 9.1 16 kbps, 16 kHz, mono 1-pass CBR but my system is not showing it... and I cannot find it anywhere... this is annoying

oh and I also have wmp 11

well, i figured it out... it didn't have anything to do with codecs or updates... it was one of my settings in the options under devices... the wrong speaker driver was selected...
