Hey guys,

I can't log in to facebook. I can open the site, but as soon as I type in my log in information and try to log in, nothing happens. It's trying to load login.facebook.com but nothing is happening. I know it's working 'cos I keep getting friend requests and messages. I've tried restarting my computer and I've tried a different computer. Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks

Hi,

check for things like blocked cookies etc. Maybe try clearing your cache and cookies, and then giving it another shot.

cheers
Anne

Hi Anne,

Thanks for the reply. I tried doing that, but still nothing. It's the only site on the net I can't access, everything else is working fine. I'm using firefox 2.0.0.3. I tried with IE 7 too, but still nothing. Searched google, but couldn't find anything on the problem I have.

Try doing a trace route to it and see what it gives you.

I'm getting (from regional NSW)

Tracing route to login.facebook.com [204.15.20.27] over a maximum of 30 hops:

Trace complete.

So packets are getting there. If you get a similar result, it might be worth checking with the site admins is there any problems with your login, if nothing else, to eliminate that.

I'm at uni now, and it's working. I'll check again when I get home to see if it's working there too.

It's still not working at home. I tried to ping login.facebook.com and got packets sent and received with an average of 207 ms. Still can't log in though. I get to the main site, but as soon as I put in my login information and hit login, nothing happens. Says connection to login.facebook.com and that's it.... I've deleted all cookies and everything in both Firefox and explorer but still nothing. It doesn't work from my house mates computer either, so it seems like it's something wrong with our connection. Every other site works perfectly though, it's just this one. At uni I could log in no problem. Anyone having the same problem ??

Weird.

Is there any chance that specific ports are needed for the site (unusual I know, but if the trace is going through, then the packets are getting there), and these ports are blocked by either software or hardware firewalls? Or some other kind of security setting? Its weird that you are tracing OK to the site, but cant log in.

I know. It's really weird. It's not just my computer either, since I've tested it on another computer in the same household with a different operating system. I'm running Vista Ultimate, he's running XP Service Pack 2. It's just this one address that doesn't work from here, but it's up and running since I tested it from uni.

What happens when you go to www.facebook.com and than manually navigate to the login page (which is what I suspect you did from uni). Do you have the login page bookmarked from home?

Alan has run some tests, and login.facebook.com is rejecting all connections - from within the PT network and out of our network. It is possible that they have moved the login page, and if you are navigating to it from a bookmark, you are going to the old page.

Trying to connect to login.facebook.com from various overseas localities via telnet gives a refusal of connection, and a manual navigation to login.facebook.com will not resolve.

Try going to the main page, and manually navigating to the login page. Clear your cache before you try it, and then see what happens.

I've the same issue. Any solution? I've purged my history, cookies, restarted my browser MS Exploder :-), I can login directly to router though not on wireless. Have always been able to in the past. My 'bro' is fine, across the wireless and he's sitting oppo me. Checked the browser config settings and all is looking OK. I'm running on a Dell Inspiron with an unrenewed Norton Internet license. Works a dream at Uni. and used to work at home.... Now zip! Help amigos ..

I've been having the exact same issue, and starting at approximately the exact same time as well. It's been working fine before up till the end of March. I've tried so many methods to try to log in, and nothing has worked. Hopefully you guys can help.

Thanks guys for the help. It has been working intermittently for days now. some times I cant log in for hours. I deleted the saved login pages in my favorites, and then all temp files and cookies and navigated through facebook.com and it worked.
Hope this helps. Thanks for all your help!
