hi all , i got RTA1320 and the poer light stays red , i tried to solve this problem by testing the transistors and capacitors but every thing is fine except the firmware cant load

so ifound that i can upgrade my RTA1320 by using serial port and theres a small connector near the chip (Broadcom BCM6338) and when i connect to the modem by hyper terminal i found theres a command line

at this point i stacked cuz i cant deal with this commands , but i found another connector in the modem for 14 pin , and i discover this is a JTAG connector .

i built the JTAG circuit , but actually theres no programe deal with the cpu BroadCom BCM6338

please if any one can help us to upgrade this modem by serial port or JTAG

the main JTAG program only can deal with Broadcom BCM5365 Rev 1 CPU ,

Broadcom BCM6348 Rev 1 CPU (Big Endian) , BCM6345 Rev 1 CPU

please help

Did you replace the 220uF electrolytic next to the inductor. Replace it regardless of appearance. You need a Low ESR replacement but any value 220-1000 will work fine.

What commands did you use with the serial port? You realise you need a tftp server active and ready to respond to the modem request for the firmware. I think tftd32 works really well and you can see the log if the request was received by the pc and the firmware sent.

Forget JTAG. You need to get a clean running modem to pull the info from the flash chip, so effectively you need to buy a modem to repair one. This is a $60 modem and you are breaking your neck for it. If it went bad through no fault of yours return it for warranty. If you broke it, use it as a paper weight and buy a new one.
