Alot of my torrents, especially the ones that download super fast are getting stuck downloading one piece and hang at 99.9 percent for what can sometimes take an eternity. These aren't bad torrents, I have lots of peers seeding at 100 percent. My router is not set in DMZ mode which the Azureus wiki said could be part of the problem.

If I just leave it for long enough the torrent will eventually download, but in the process discard a lot of wasted MB (100+) trying to get that last piece.

Anyway It's really annoying me, and I cant for the life of me understand what is going on. I can download a 700mb file in less than 15 minutes at speeds up to 1.5mbs a second, but the last 2mbs takes an hour to get.

These torrents go really fast but they are not bad torrents that get stuck at 98 percent... Can anyone help me?

I'm using the latest version of Azureus for Mac, and a netgear NB5+4 router (dodgy piece of junk) with an airport expresss attached. All ports are correctly forwarded.

And the seeds the OP is seeing are mere mirages.

They aren't fake I always get the file in the end. I have seen fake torrents with no seeds before.

This is done deliberately I think, so you upload for a bit.
Not sure how it works exactly but I believe they can set the way the swarm works and this is one of them, to make sure people stick around and upload.

Or one of half a dozen other file types which get broken into CD sized chunks, most of which won't (easily) work without the entire intact file.

Also, 0.1% is 700kb not 2mb as you stated.

It happened to me before. When that happens, I just set up that torrent peer connect = 1. That will finish very quick.

that made more sence than any post and sound to be the actual reason. not a fault, just a way to keep torrents alive. good idea. annoying but if you think of it from a seeding point of veiw its only way of forcing people to seed, and in a world where you cant trust that people will share 1:1 somtimes you have to do annoying stuff to keep the user seeding.

Fine but most are fakes, set up by RIAA and MPAA lots of evidence, the classic bad piece torrent. That's the price you pay for downloading illegally off public trackers. Heaps of fakes and honeytraps.

I had a 99.9% file once. Was a file in 46 little rar files.

Didnt download the last % just extracted it till it was at 99%, paused the extraction then copied the extracted iso and away I went.

have you tried restarting the program? I had a 99.9 torrent once, 4 hours and nothing, I restarted 20 seconds later done.

Can't see how this would be the reason, in that the torrent will not start seeding until it is fully downloaded.

I am currently having the same issue with a d/load atm . Way plenty of seeds (4000) and peers (3000) which leads me to believe the torrent is not a fake.

A little perplexed by this.......

Which makes me believe it is a fake. Public trackers full of fakes.

OK, I will defer to your experience on this.

Any advice/pointers on establishing private trackers?

I'd be thinking the opposite. Unless it was an extremely popular torrent that many seeds would make me suspicious it was a fake. The few fakes I've come across all were supposedly well seeded.

Edit: Oops. Beaten by Muad's post above.

Can I ask with the last piece are you getting like incorrect hashes and hence have to keep continually downloading the last piece or is it just not sending the last piece.

Actually you start seeding the pieces you have downloaded.

For example, a 1GB file gets seeded by it's original owner and people start downloading.
You join the swarm 10 minutes later with 40% of the original file seeded by the owner.

That first 40% of the file will come to you at full speed of the swarm since most people already has it. Does that make sense?

Possibly.

However, as yet, I have never struck a fake on the ones that I download a lot off.

Lucky perhaps? Maybe it's because I'm not really into Movies/TV shows/Software anyhow.

*apparently* this can also be easily faked. what type of file is it? often video files will play at <100%

it can and it is very easy. i even have the prog to do it. you can fake swarm speed, peers and seeders and you dont even have to be the torrent tracker admin.

i sometimes find i get 99.9% of the file.. what i do is delete it off my list then "download" the file again and it hash checks it all again and then i find it sometimes downloads the last bit..

Just forget public trackers for everything except files up to 300MB tops.
And watch your downloads when you downloading from public.
You can easy waste you monthly quota in one night just by downloading fake data.

Get private tracker membership for everything else.

I think the forced seeding thing sounds logical. I tried the same torrent on windows and mac. Both using azureus, I may try another program. Its not the end of the world i can play the file with VLC. The real problem is the discarded data from trying to re-download that last piece again and again.

well i use my off peak quota for that, set azerus to only download during off peak time frame and pause during peak. works well and since im not at pc while download is going it doesnt matter if it pauses my download. i just wish it ony did that to users who didnt seed, i always seed to 3.0 ratio if its under 1GB and if its oer 1GB i seed to 1.0
