Guys and Gals,

May I make a request to keep ontopic, that is discuss BF2. Valid subtopics are tactics used in the game, the effect of patches by developers, random bits of fun you may have in the game, matches and ladders that have or are taking place etc.

Try and refrain from making condescending remarks toward other users or making this thread the grounds for personal attacks. By all means, if a user is a little misinformed or you have a different idea, say so, but do not attack the user in any way, attack the idea (or praise it, as the case may be).

This thread has a nice social aspect in parts, which is really nice to see, let's keep it that way for current and future threads

As for the personal attacks etc. being discussed, please let the moderator team deal with them via herrings and other means as required. A post to ask people to stay on topic or lay off a user is ok, but beyond that leave it to the professionals :)

Looks like some of the servers tonight need a reboot. Had two killed by messages while I was driving an APC around. One of the node servers, can't remember the number but it was a 64 player Dragon Valley.

Nice to see justice prevail. Tonight, while playing SF, there was a really stupid commander, who kept dropping arty on his own troops etc. It was a long round, with only about 10 players on each side, and the top 2 players on each side on scores of about 190 (I was one of them :D). So we mutinied the commander with about 10 tickets to go, and we got 5 votes and we needed 6. I couldn't mutiny again, so I asked a clan mate too. This time we got the required 6 votes (:D) and denied him a score of over 200 as our side won. He wasn't happy either, and teamkilled the JM guy who started the successful mutiny vote next round :P

I had one of those on a game I was playing a couple of days ago, although I think it was more a pact with the enemy commander. Our team would be shelled by the enemy commander, then ours would shell us as well. Naturally we tried to mutiny as well, but just couldn't get the votes :-/

He's not stupid, he's trying to maximise his score. If you were so far in front the round was going to end with your team way ahead. If he slows your side down and helps the other side cap a flag or 2, the ticket bleed slows down, the round lasts longer so he gets more points, and being commander he doesn't lose points for arty TKs.

If I'm commanding a winning side, I'll often stop the arty as all it does is hasten the round end, prevents my team from getting the kills which in turn prevents me from getting the points. I have been known to drop supplies for the enemy if we were slaughtering them, but that's as far as I go. I have never even considered artying my own team, that sux.

Perhaps I should explain, it does sound sucky.

I've done 3 times, maybe 4 max. Each time our side was just raping them, they were down to 1 flag and surrounded, but not being capped out. I really hate that when I'm on the receiving end, so i tried to at least give them what little help I could.

Its probably not exactly in the spirit of the game, but Nastyboy's Book of Battlefield Etiquette says spawn raping is bad.

It wasn't like we were winning by alot though nasty. For the last 150 tickets the margin was only 1-2 tickets, and we only ended up winning by two.

Sorry, but even when the normal maps are on I'm pretty sure it won't be ranked due to having custom maps in the sever rotation.

I was just playing on the node QLD no vehicle server, it was filled with +SIN+ players..

They had one susso called paddle.boys, he was stat padding to the max..

He was running arounf with his whole squad keeping him alive so he can stat pad!

He should be freakin banned, i knifed him like 5 times and he was whinging bcause i teabagged him..

In this case, they had multiple members keeping them alive just so they could kill ppl with the paddles.. considering the shock paddles dont need ammo refills as such, the other squad members were keeping them alive so they could paddle..

LMAO! Funniest post I've read to date in the BF2 thread series! :-P

I was accused of hacking last night. In reality it was more a fluke than anything else. I manned the Anti-Aircraft Cannon/Missle on the carrier in the Wake Island map, and shot down 2 Chinese jets and 3 helicopters in a little under five minutes (the helicopters were trying to dump men on the carrier). One player piped up that I was using something called an aimbot (had to google it afterwards)
I didn't last much longer after that though. I think I upset a couple of the fighter pilots who got back into the air again, because they concentrated all their firepower on me, ignoring the rest of the carrier :-/

No, if he's running around using only the paddles, that's his choice. He isn't stat padding unless he is paddling the same person over and over in a remote area of the map with no intention of actually playing the game.

guys, i have a confession to make . . . i haven't played bf2 since early last week . . . i've been seduced by bf2142. I've only had 3 sessions of it but am already just below 800pts an have unlocked the sf kit etc.

I wouldn't worry about a group of players supporting each other myself. It's the same when you have two fighter jets blasting the carrier in Wake Island. One passes low overhead, shooting at anything moving on the deck, drops a couple of bombs (further causing mayhem and chaos on the deck), then heads skyward. Then while any survivors are blindly trying to shoot at that fighter (including the AA cannon), another jet from the other direction takes everyone by surprise, and does the same thing. Bit hard to duck when you're looking the other way :-)

Just had a good game on Wake 6 Node server, and was part of a squad that actually seemd to work together for a change. It was a very close game, and we were actually losing with 30 points left to our side, but we somehow came back to win the round.
Can't quite remember the Squad Leaders nick though, but I'm sure I've seen it somewhere on here before, one of the (@) guys :-)

They still are.

I played 2 rounds of Dragon Valley last night.

1st round 35-3 (1 x mid-air, 1 x pulled up too late, 1 x Joker).
2nd round 41-2 (1 x Concrete tree, 1 x tked by TV missile going for same target).

Each round included at least 10 F-35 kills, and an greater number of chopper kills, including a chopper full of OzForces guys. :)

you can sort the server listing so it only shows 'ranked' servers. Up the top of the server list it will have an area that will prolly be displaying "show all Battlefield 2 servers", you clikc on that an you can change it that way.

After not playing Battlefield 2 for over a year (bought it the day it came out but then sold it - stupid idea) my girlfriend bought it for me for christmas and was playing it until 2:30am Tuesday morning.

I forgot just how good the game was. Can't wait till the weekend so I can get stuck back into it again.

ok i've got another question.... how can you update bf2 v1.0.2442.0 to the 1.4 patch??

I have tried just using the big 530mb v1.4 patch, but the game just goes black and doesn't load..

is there a way of getting the game to work just by installing the 1.4 patch, or do you have to go incremental? if you do have to go incremental, exactly what patches do you need?

make sure you are getting the 1.41 patch and not the 1.4 patch as there is no incremental from 1.4 to 1.41.

^^^ Shouldn't have to go incremental as long as you have the full patch. Its up to 1.41 now but that is only available as a full patch . . . not incremental.

Try deleting all files in the Temp file locations on your computer, also rename your BF2 profile in My Docs and try reinstalling the patch. Should work, if not, try a reinstall.

*sigh* ... if you expect me to download each patch every 5 days, i will be downloading patches upon patches upon patches..

the 1.4 patch is already 530mb, and if have to NOW get the 1.41 patch i will have to wait ages just to get that.

I don't really know what your talking about but after you have finished uninstalling BF2, delete everything in this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\Battlefield 2

I dunno about that but you can try if you want. All I can say is that when I had that problem, I deleted the directory and it worked when I started it up again.

It's not a matter of it being 'worth' or not. It's just making sure EVERYTHING will be fresh installed like as if BF2 will be installed for the first time on your PC.

Like I said, delete EVERYTHING in the BF2 directory AND Profiles.

otherwise just remove teh profiles.

btw, Rohan you can play quite well on a 64 k capped line. 'tis quite enough for a 32 player server. just don't try dial up

Did you reboot the computer after installing the patch? For some reason that fixed it for me when i installed the 1.4 patch. Didn't have the same problem with 1.41 though.

It's not the patch's fault. Are you sure you deleted the Profiles folder? AND the directory (in Program Files)
