You can't disable it. TPG currently utilising a transparent squid proxy. What you can do is try different TPG proxies. Keep changing the proxies from this list forum-replies.cfm?t=493725 to get the download working for websites like RapidShare or MegaUpload.

Keep changing proxies as suggested. I used to do that, found it to be a pain in the ass.

A friend and I now share the cost and just pay for the service because its worth paying for.

Not so much worth it anymore. RapidShare.de has run out of upload space, and they have opened RapidShare.com, which you cannot use your existing .de account for use on .com (which is just plain scam.)

It sure is hehe.
Though you can transfer your account for free. So you get your bonus points.
Only thing you loose out on is any files you have uploaded to .de

There is/was a promotion where you could use a code number displayed when you logged on to rapidshare.de to get a free account on rapidshare.com.

I was a little annoyed after just signing up on rapidshare.de but an e-mail to them gave me the instructions to get the .com account.

I signed up because of the problem the original poster had.

Hey DeathSta, as Raj1 mentioned you can use you rapidshare.de account on rapidshare.com as long as the account is currently active.
Just follow the prompts as on the page below.
> rapidshare.com/cgi-bin/promo.cgi

And Gambino, since downloading on Rapidshare depends on your IP address, if it says you cannot download until so minutes or if you are currently downloading a file, you will have to use a proxy as others mentioned. There are a number of proxy sites, but just make sure you use anonymous proxies, as with transparent proxies it will just submit your IP, hence no point. Since you mentioned you were using Firefox, theres a very neat plugin/extension for Firefox which you can use, 'SwitchProxy'.
#https://addons.mozilla.org/firefo x/125/

It allows you to import a list of proxy's and instead of manually setting up each time an alternate proxy, you can set to automatically change proxy on a time-interval or as you require.

Edit: Don't worry, got link. Thanks to person above.

Not TPG's fault, the transparent proxies *do* send the address, the problem is that the server at the other end doesn't read the HTTP request properly.

IOW - bitch at Rapidshare, not TPG.

great extension only problem is its not compatible with FF 2.0 :(

Since I cant try this just yet, can you tell us if it comes with its own list of free proxies or do I have to go searching for a list somewhere and import it?

Hey Lance, unfortunately it doesnt have its own list of free proxies, rather you have to import them yourself. I would just go around searching for a few, and when they work, just note it down.

So is it worth to downgrade my firefox 2.0 to 1.5 for the switchproxy to be installed on my computer?

Don't be lazy and just switch proxies yourself. It takes you 10sec.

just read the comments page for the plugin. Some guy went and hacked it to work with 2.0. That's what I'm currently using.

I'm having troubles changing my proxy with FF.
Whenever I change the settings in FF, it doesn't show up on www.showmyip.com (Proxy Host Name doesn't change).
Do you need administrator privileges when running FF to change proxy settings?

Thanks, but do you think any of these proxies help me access rapidshare without waiting 80 minutes for every file downloaded? I heard someone said hide IP software allows people run anoymous proxy no waiting just like a premium account?

Yes programs such as

www.anonymizer.com/home.html

do make you fairly anonymous on the Internet and by changing your port and IP on a regular basis programs such as Rapidshare are fooled into thinking that you haven't downloaded anything therefore you can download again and again without waiting.

The trade off is noticeably slower performance.

All I do is just manually enter from www.proxy4free.com/page1.html the port and IP of a high anonymity type and keep changing them after each download and get the same effect as an anonymizer program without the hassles.

I'm having exactly the same issues. Up until about 3 or 4 weeks ago, I had no probs using a proxy and confirming it is working by using www.dnsstuff.com

Nowadays though, everytime I change the proxy and check on the above website, it still shows up on the website above. I'm using anonymous proxies, so I don't know what's going wrong here... anyone got any ideas ?

Just tried removing the "foxyproxy" add-on, thinking that might be causing the problem. Still can't get it to work...

Is this a TPG issue ? or just me being incompetent ?

What exactly do you mean? I don't understand what you are trying to ask. Are you suggesting even if you use anonymous proxies it still lists your WAN IP?
As for the proxy's it cant possibly be a TPG issue, and the only problem might be masking your IP. The site may be retrieving the IP by possibly using Java??
I am not to sure about that, but if you want open up the Java Control Panel/Console and set up the Network Settings to use a proxy server instead of browser settings/direct connection.
As for using proxies with Rapidshare I have noticed its getting harder to use proxies as either Rapidshare may be blacklisting the proxies or that since its becoming such a popular file sharing service more and more people are setting up proxies to bypass the time-limit.

Edit: Try disabling Java, Javascript and ActiveX. And make sure to use an anonymous proxy. Should do the trick

I'm not an expert regarding this matter, but I'm sure that from about two months I'm having problems by downloading from Rapidshare.

My IP is TGP, I'm sure they have made such changes (transparent proxy) which are incompatible with Rapidshare.

I already sent them an enquiry, they suggested me a "standard" procedure in order to check my connection (which could require weeks to be done) after that I replayed to don't annoy me with useless suggestions.

Finally "TGP" said that in order to ever satisfy its customers, they thought to adopt the (annoying) transparent proxy so customers will be surely happy about.

Does anyone thinks the same as TGP???

Ah, I already saw some your previous posts somewhere in this forum and especially one has made me concern about you, that one you said "stupid" to another user because he gave a public list of TPG's proxy list.

Did you know that internet means freedom and information? Or do you want all for yourself?
