Does the following email to me mean that we cannot download any future uploads from now on from Rapidshare.de.If so what a rip off as I have purchased a 12 month subscription 3 months ago.

Dear Sir or Madam,

RapidShare.de and RapidShare.com are two different companies.
You can not download files, use folders or collector-accounts from
RapidShare.de at RapidShare.com.
Christian Schmid is working in the RapidShare AG.

Rapidshare.de will not be going down.
But uploads are no longer possible at RapidShare.de because our hard
drives are totally full.
However, this will not affect the download services.

Regarding to RapidShare.com, we can inform you that is not a phishing site.
Please read carefully on their website to get more information.

Thank you for your attention.

Best regards,

Daniel Ollinger

like totally.

I'm sure they'll add more hard drives in the near future.

it means the hard drives are full, so you can download stuff, just not upload. so i guess you wont be able to get new stuff

Well it's not really a spot of bother. New uploads will be on the rapidshare.com domain, and you should have now a rapidshare.com account aswell which works the same way as a rapidshare.de only with different username and password.

The only problem is if you have heaps of files like myself being hosted on .de and you don't extend the .de and only extend the new .com your files will expire on .de

Not that that makes a lot of sense, but it's quite clear that a '.de' membership can easily be converted to a '.com' membership.

I can't see how you work that out when they are supposedly two different companys.

It is so obvious a money grabbing exercise. rapidshare.de no longer allows uploads and instead forces you to upload files to rapidshare.com which is supposedly a different company. So if you bought a membership with .de you cannot use it on.com. You have to actually buy another membership with them.
Hard drives are "totally" full? With so many uploads expiring everyday and uploads that are removed because they receive complaints you'd think there would be space. What happens when .com gets full? Create a .com.au or .co.uk where you have to buy another membership yet again?

I was going to get a rs account but not anymore.
Probably better to hang back until this mess is sorted out.
You would think you would have acess to rapidshare no matter which you choose to use.
I knew that it was becoming as little to popular but didnt think they would treat their customers like gooses!
What a money making excercise for RS "rapidly sinking".

This is not true. If you have a membership with .de you can get a free premium account with .com for the same period.

Login into .de and it will give you a long code that you can type into .com to get a free premium account. I have done it and now have a premium account with both!

Have a look here for proof:
rapidshare.com/cgi-bin/promo.cgi

this is very straight forward, if you have a .de account, get a free .com account.

If you don't have an account, get a .com account.

What else matters?

All the new uploads will be going on .com so I don't think it can get any more simple.

Why do people actually use Rapidshare? I tried it out for a day and couldn't see what all the fuss was about.

He does have a point though. Beats me... There is no search facility on the site so seems a little pointless. I'lll just store my files on my own harddrive.

You mostly have to use links located at other forums and websites, which should have what you want.

I wasn't trying to say RapidShare was crap. I was jsut curious as I didn't see what the fuss was about.

I've never had a problem really finding what I want on torrent sites. Is rapidshare the new torrents?

Nah, it's a central repository of HDDs, which people can put stuff on, either for free or paid.

You can then find (usually warez) on various sites which point at the relevant link to download them. I find it to be much quicker than BT, although it's a lot more hit and miss if you're after something in particular.

It is, of course, a good way to transfer big files around for business, etc, as well :-)

You could always get Dynamic IP and then pull out the plug in the back of the modem for while :D

but you'll still get stuck with slow speeds and no simultaneous downloading.

I've even downloaded game demos from rapidshare just because I can max my connection out with them.

bailey04 writes...

Torrents are FREE!!

Think about it, you pay a small fee, and you can download whatever you want, as much as you want, and at full speeds, with no uploading.

No worrying about seeds, port forwarding, and all of that.

Totally worth it :)

Rapidshare will never replace torrents..

The reason why: Torrents are FREE!!

Rapidshare costs money to get the best possible service.
Yes rapidshare has a free service but you can only download so much and you can't use a download manager and you can't do simultaneous downloads. You can do all of that with torrents for free!!

I agree 100%.. If you haven't used a premium account you haven't seen rapidshare at its best!!!!

I was just trying to say that torrents will always be used because they are free.

I've just joined Rapidshare.com to find out that a hell of a lot of the files I want to download are on Rapidshare.de. The only way I can download them is to open a separate account. Defo a rip off. Supposed to be 2 seperate companies, my arse.

Adding to Ackers...I've seen that a lot of files are hosted on rapidshare.de. I have a premium account with rapidshare.com Does anyone know how to extend my membership to rapidshare.de? I know that you can extend a rapidshare.de account to rapidshare.com but can this be done the other way around?

Thanks.

We have run across the same problem and although it was neato of rapid.de to offer a free swap over to rapid.com it seems it's not possible to log into .de (even if you have a premium account) so if you're trying to download files from .de for example and your account has been extended in the .com then you can't download files from .de as your premium account is not recognised there for some reason. It's all a bit sus.

Have any of you tried megashares? It's similar to rapidshare however it offers a search feature as well which i find really useful.

You can nearly get everything!
