Does anyone know where I can get an internal PCI 56K modem that supports Windows Server 2003?

I would think most modems would be supporterd. As long as there's windows xp support for the modem.

In our Windows 2003 server, we have a Conexant D850 Modem.

I would have thought so too. But, it doesn't appear to be the case. Although the modem does have driver support for Windows XP, there is no mention on the manufacturers website about Win 2003 and the installation crashes when I install the XP drivers. After I restart the computer, the modem is still not recognised by Win 2003 and will not dial. And yes, the modem does work, or at least the last time I used it it worked.

If that's the case the best option IMO is to ring their tech support.

I did and I was told that the manufacturer (Swann Communications) does not make any modems that support Win 2003.

Go to the local swapmeet and buy 10 modems and see what works. Maybe try an external modem?

External modems still require a driver in windows to run, so no good if the external modem doesn't support win2003.

It seems alot of dialup modem manufacturers don't have direct support for win2003.

Exactly. This is what my original post is all about. Perhaps I didn't explain myself clearly enough. I am simply looking for someone who has successfully used a dial-up modem (internal or external) with Windows Server 2003. A make and model would be most helpful.

You might want to look at the Win 2003 HCL list of supported dialup modems. Shows the list of modems which work in win2003.

Designed for win2003 list.

Supports win2003 list.

Edit: i noticed that the CPT3740, Conexant SmartHSFi V9x 56K Speakerphone PCI Modem is on the list. But i'm not sure or not if your Swann 56k pci modem has a conexant or lucent chipset, as some Swann 56k pci modems came with conexant and others with lucent. If it has this certain conexant chipset there's a good chance it might work with win 2003. However if it has the lucent chipset you might be out of luck.

Edit #2. Conexant CPT2280, Conexant SoftK56 Data Fax modem chipset is also compatible with win 2003. So make sure if your swann pci modem has a conexant chipset and which particular chipset.

G'day

I have win server 03 at home on my Dell p3 with a conextent modem and seems ok. In my Dev mgr is states Dell pci modem, no ! marks or anything. I must admit I have not tried to connect as I have cable and it runs via network.

i've setup a netcomm mega-i-modem ok. That said these modems have always struck me as being really crap. Any external modem would probably be ok. I doubt i'd trust any internal modem drivers to run on a server.
