Hi,

I am a customer of CYTA (Cyprus telecommunications authority) and they started installing the SpeedTouch 585v6 routers just a week ago.

I got my hands on one today and i was so excited with the features it had regarding to the old B-Focus one. However it was locked .....

It came locked with user "cytauser" and i had no idea how it was setup. The wireless was off and the firewall was somewhat "disabled".... I was getting low ID's though on emule suggesting closed ports.

I could not edit any of the settings , so i just said "Lets flash it!".
I followed the guide of Revs Per Min to flash it without a password.
The original version was 6.1.0.5 and now it is on 6.1.9 (Not the high power one).

I managed to get in this time with my own admin password, however i cannot setup the router to operate correctly and access the internet through the DSL line. Bridge works like a charm but i don't want that!

Our provider does not provide any details regarding Routed PPP settings so i have no idea what the username and password is or if its Ethernet or ATM based.

If anyone of you has any ideas on this please let me know. I cannot revert back to the old one. Telling them i flashed it would mean i would have to pay for a replacement.....

Thanks for helping out

When you say bridge works, what exactly do you put into your pc to make it work. Are you using the pppoe client or just a static ip that the isp gives you.

When i put Bridge i simply repair my PC Ethernet and i get my ISP automatic IP settings,DNS and gateway. Once i get that i cannot use it on another PC / wireless client unless i release that IP first.

Brige makes the router work as a 1port hub as i understand it.
So as an answer im using the static IP that the isp automatically gives me using the bridge mode.

Thanks for your help

Ok I think you are using IPoA although it is unusual to have dhcp working rather than just static ip the ISP gives you.

This is much easier to setup with a modem and separate router. The speedtouch CD has templates for IPoA but none with NAT. I think you need to get speedtouch support to give you a template with NAT functioning.

And there is some documentation by speedtouch which should help you understand at least if not configure it. ConfigGuide_WANConnect.pdf has the cli commands to setup routed IPOA for the business models but is still relevant to yours.
www.speedtouch.nl/docs/C...e_WANConnect.pdf

Much easier if you can get a template out of speedtouch but have a go with the cli if you feel up to it.

You are almost where you want to be with this, because you know that with your (newly flashed) 585 the WAN interface and the ATM settings are fine (as you can connect), and your PC is providing the DHCP client and the ethernet interface that your ISP requires you to. I assume your PC gets your public IP (check this) on it's ethernet interface.

So you need to provide an ethernet interface in the 585, as well as an IP interface with NAT enabled, to share your single public IP with your other PC's. Your connection is RFC 1483 bridged requiring an active DHCP client.

In CLI, look at the ATM settings to get your vpi/vci and encap. Delete all interfaces. Create another phonebook entry with that VPI/VCI. Create, configure and attach ethernet and IP interfaces (with NAT enabled) - as per the CLI guide and the reference that RPM posted.

PS before you delete your (only functioning) 585 WAN interface, post your phonebook list, your ethoA list and your IP interfaces (should be none)

Thanks to all !!

RPM Gave me that guide, it was really helpfull. I managed to set it up quite well!

One thing that bothers me is the tracert ms that comes from the router when you trace any IP.

I get a standard :
1 29 ms 99 ms 100 ms dsldevice.lan [192.168.10.100]

at the first hop.. And the second is less around 25...

Why is this ?

Thanks

The speedtouch is just slow to respond. Perhaps deliberate, but they all do it since firmware 5.3 and every model. Even 4.3 on a 510 which used to respond very fast on 4.2 firmware will be slow. If you ping your destination it should be fast, so the speedtouch itself is not hindering anything.

Most important though is to turn off the "Web Browsing Interception" In the latest firmware it is set to auto but it is better to off it. Whether or not it has any effect in your setup I don't know!!

Thanks!

I turned it off. Ping times are same but its "fake"...

No overall loss noticed. but web browsing is a bit faster i think now.

CoMMyz, can you please explain a bit how do you manage to reset the password! I'm having the same problems as you described.

Thanks.

By asking your ISP. They have to give you username and password before you start.
Then you need to use bootp method to update the firmware.

I have no idea if this is allowed but for all Cypriot users that are having problems with their speedtouch there is a blog up especially for Cyprus routers provided by CYTA right here:
ioannis.mpsounds.net/blog/?p=42

To revs:
Our lame provider never gives out passwords !
