Being a fan of Rammstein, i just thought it would be interesting to see how many ppl out there are fans of / really hate rammstein. it seems that most ppl who speak German don't like Rammstein. What's your opinion?

I don't speak german well, but I have a general understanding on what their songs are lyrically. With their music, they have a few really good songs (such as du riechst so gut) while most of their songs I don't mind at all.

The whole german thing is not really that important , even though they use it to get "cool" off. It can probably be anoying.

Its really just an a musical "affectation" i find to try and link themselves to older more important industrial bands ie Einsturzende Neubauten.

Theres a country called Germany and they all speak that way. and a lot of their music is in German.

my german is pretty average, but by reading the lyrics and with a bit of help from herzeleid.com the lyrics aren't too hard to decipher

thoroughly enjoy their sound, although i found rosenrot to be disappointing, mostly in the second half

Can't go wrong with a bit of Rammstein but don't say that to a 'true metalhead' :\ Apparently Rammstein aren't cool.

Rammstein is great, it's got that rock/metal feel to it, while avoiding that grunge crap, or the incoherent noises of "real metal"

I love the lyrics. They are so satirical and humourous. A lot of my friends ddon't know what they mean and act really serious and angry. Its hard not to read the lyrics and think they are taking the micky.

The music gets a bit boring after a while though. - not really my style.

I used to listen to them about 5-6 years ago.
They seemed to be pretty popular back then.
Seems to me they've been pretty quiet lately. Not as much rage about them anymore
Or maybe thats just me :P i dont really listen to the radio much anymore, damn those mp3 players for that

Yeop, thats how I did it.

I love Rammstein, great band. I thought they got better and better. Less industrial, more heavy. But yet, Rosenrot was a bit disappointing. Still like it though

Love them or hate them, their stage presence is immense and the rifs are simple and catchy - like light-hearted industrial/metal should be.

They aren't a "hard core" group like some idiots label them and the lyrics, although poetic at times, can be rather bland.

I think it's awesome how they have so many different types of songs, from the energetic Feuer Frei to the lamenting Wo Bist Du; it feels as if there's something for everyone. Rosenrot wasn't that disappointing for me as it was the first album I heard from Rammstein, so it still holds that special feel for me.

Liked Rammstein ever since hearing the brilliant 'Du Hast'.

I'm a metalhead and don't consider Rammstein to be 'metal', more industrial hard rock but for what it is it's bloody good music.

As much I enjoy listening to Rammstein, there are a number of great sounding German acts around. To name a few:

Oomph!, Eisbrecher, Die Toten Hosen, Anubiz, Cephalgy, Blutengel, Mantus & Megaherz.

I like Rammstein's lyrics for the sheer absurdity of them. Most of Sehnsucht (to name one) is concerned with sex. Spiel mit mir (about brotherly incest), Bestrafe mich & Bück dich (sado-masichism), Tier (incest) & Küss mich (oral sex). Then, of course the video for Mann gegan Mann (from Rosenrot) is a real eye-opener.

It's good for a bit of schtick giggle :)

like a lot of heavy metal, I love the music, hate the lyrics.

some great examples are marilyn manson and korn. I love their music, but I totally 100% disagree with their lyrics and also the way they lead their public lives.

I end up falling back on bands like P.O.D which admittedly, aren't quite as heavy as some others, but they're Christian, which suits me excellently, what with me being Christian and all :P :D

Rammstein are a great band for cheap thrills every now and then, they arent the sorta band I could listen to extensively as they grow old pretty quickly.

Love Rammstein, Although I think after having read the english translations to a few of their songs, I think its a good thing they sing in german. BUT saying that, I am not really a 'lyrics' person anyway, So as long as what ever a band says sounds good musically, I am happy..

Like a few people though, I have gone off them a bit in recent years, I always have a few standout good songs on each new Album, but not like Herzeleid and Sehnsuct where EVERY track was a winner..

When I don't have time to listen to a full album, I listen to the first half on Mutter instead, up to and incl Spieluhr. The rest of the songs don't really appeal to me that much and I find that the album seesm to end complete after Spieluhr.

it related to thread in the context that 2 of the poll questions centered around whether or not you liked Rammies music and or lyrics.

Yes, I could have simply said "I dislike Ram's lyrics" but with only a few extra words (and I'm sure that they weren't THAT painful to read) I gave the poll starter more specific information. It's not just Ram's lyrics I don't like, thus, being something specific about this particular band, but its most heavy metal band lyrics that I don't like. That way he knows its not me disliking just Ram.

Zwitter and Adios are two of the best on it.

I agree with the other two songs though. Not bad but the worst two on the cd.

Only song by Oomph! I like is "Mein Herz". Saw them play in 2004, had great hopes & was very disappointed. Same with Blutengel.

I like bands (to name a few) more along the lines of Umbra Et Imago (proper goth), Saltatio Mortis (German bagpipes, LOL), Feindflug (Terror EBM), Wolfsheim (electronic I guess), Das Ich (legendary freaks), Girls Under Glass (Industrial), Ich & Ich (super sweet) & especially Deine Lakaien / Helium Vola (absolutely brilliant)

Hard to go past Rammstein videos though, some of the funniest ever made.

well i started listening to rammstein back in 2000 when i first heard du hast. First time I heard it and thought it was really cool, german industrial music. I liked alot of albums got into a bit megahertz as well another german band.

I just enjoyed the very obscure lyrics. Plus I got to learn a bit of german which was a very good thing for me.

edit:
just to add i was in germany back in 2003, went to a rock bar called the Titty Twister, they played 3 rammstein songs. It was a bit strange for me since rammstein wasnt very popular in germany at all.

I like the fact that they sing in German because it is so different to other music.
I know some of the lyric conversions and its good soemtimes because other ppl dont know what they are saying and i do. :)

Ooh, that reminds me:

The new live DVD "Völkerball" is to be released as a CD/DVD/Book on 17/11/2006. It contains tracks from the French, Russian, English & Japanese gigs from the Reise, Reise tour of 2005.

Hopefully the sound quality is a little better than the 3-track teaser DVD released with Rosenrot.

Rammstein is one of my favourite bands. i speak a little German, and although u don't hear the words at first if you listen to the song often enough you'll be able to sing along (though I'm crap). the first rammstein i heard was the self titled rammstein song from lost highway a movie with bill paxton (or is it pullman?). that was 1999ish. since then i haven't stopped loving them. rosenrot rot is a bit to slwo for me though my favourite from rosenrot is zestoeren (destroy).

has any1 heard vater, is a sort of mashup of songs its pretty good...

Rammstein are the only German band these days spinning out good songs.

I have a long history of likely German bands, which is weird as I am Italian and personally Italy makes some of the worse music in the world. (n)

Some of my all time fav German bands inc:

Well you gotta start with Kraftwerk. Such a big influence on electronic music and completely sampled to death.

Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft or if you can't handle the name....just call them DAF! :P You need to check out their best songs like "Der Räuber Und Der Prinz" and "Der Mussolini". Very underrated imo. But I do draw the line when it comes to the boring predictability of The Scorpions.

Plus their is all of that Krautrock acts like Can, Tangerine Dream, Neu! & Faust.

One of the better punk bands out their is Die Toten Hosen.....and let's not forget the truly fugly Nina Hagen. I even don't mind the cheesy 80's stuff from Falco or Nena.

Einstürzende Neubauten are pretty much in a class of their own.

So overrall.....GERMAN ROCK....ROX!!!! :D
