Hi guys I am having problems with my pc! The other day I decided to, reinstall windows because of this virus thing wouldn't go away, so I put in the cd entered my key and it started installing, I went away and let it setup then when I came back it restarted windows started to load and I got to a screen that says, "Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware," so I googled the problem, came to the windows site and went to resolutions the only problem is, i cant use the keyboard when the pc boots up and I have tried like 3 keyboards that all work and I'm stuck in the screen that says windows could not start. I have put my windows xp cd in and nothing happens, I've even booted and unplugged the hard drive and when I done that the windows setup comes up, but as soon as i plug it back in back to the same old. So would there be anything i could do? or would i be needing a new hard drive? because i have all my stuff on this current hard drive :(

Where you are now, the only safe thing to do is, slave it to another HD & copy your stuff over.

To get it squeaky clean once you are ready to lose everything, I use these.

Use both of these, start with Zap 1st. Both can go on your boot disk.
Zap

www.storage.ibm.com/hdd/...ort/download.htm
Zap is a DOS software utility that writes zeroes to the first 128 sectors on a hard disk drive, including the Master Boot Record and the first Partition Boot Record. It can be used with both SCSI and IDE drives. This function is now included in the Drive Fitness Test.

================================== =====

WIPE OUT

www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/wipeout.zip
Freeware.
WIPE OUT: as the name implies, this utility will absolutely WIPE your hard drive. For those times when an industrial strength cleaner is needed to remove any pesky files Fdisk may have left behind. A readme file is included in the zip file. WARNING...WIPE OUT will remove ALL data from the Hard Drive.

DIRECTIONS

1- Unzip file
2- Copy WIPEOUT to a Win95/98/ME boot disk
3- Boot with Win9x disk, make sure the bios is set to boot from floppy 1st.
4- At the A:\> type "wipeout c: /nq /np" (no quotes)
/nq = no queries - you will not be asked if you are sure.
/np = no partitions - this will overwrite the MBR

Press Enter.

Now use your XP cd to format & partition.
Or,
Run fdisk to set up partitions.
fdisk.radified.com
When done, reboot & format.

Been there, unfortunatly no easy way, you need to do a lot of reading or get help from someone.

No need to buy a new HD, someone with an old comp or HD should have enough space on it for what you really want to save. Usually Address book & your special info or emails.

How to install XP.

Once it is hooked up to another computer, you can get back whatever you want.

Like I said earlier, you need someone by your side showing ( helping ) you.
