After installing Vista RC1 and ATTEMPTING to install some drivers for my motherboard stuff from their default Windows drivers, windows subsequently disabled the devices and says 'This version of Windows requires signed device drivers'. No if or buts just disabled the devices and I had to rollback to the previous drivers.

I didn't care to much cause it was just stuff like the SMBus and SMU but then tried installing my OnBoard sound card (nForce4 MB) same thing happened. Vista won't work with the RC1 drivers I got from nVidias website but Vista (by default) installs these generic 'Realtek AC'97 Audio' drivers that work but it complains that they weren't designed for Vista. *shakes head*

Any thoughts?

Is Vista worth it yet? It also does not run legacy 16 bit programs. Why would you hurry to be an MS guinea pig?

64bit Vista will require signed drivers unless you press F8 when booting and choose to disable driver signing for that boot.

32bit Vista, it is optional to enforce driver signing (can be done via Group Policy/Local Policy if you want).

If you are writing your own drivers, then you can setup your own CA and have your Vista installation trust that CA. Then you can sign you own drivers.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if it made any difference between 64/32-bit as I had previously used Vista Beta 2 32-bit and am now using Vista RC1 64-bit.

Yes, the builds after Beta 2 are quite sweet.

It also does not run legacy 16 bit programs.

When was the last time you (or anybody) ran a 16 bit Windows application? Come out of the previous century! ;)

Why would you hurry to be an MS guinea pig?

It's the future.

90+% of computers run Windows and this is the next generation.
