Is there any firmware update (ver 3.70) for 6233? I got this phone a week ago, everything is really cool.. except that sometimes the phone hangs up and resumes in about 10-15 seconds.

No, this is because its a really new phone.

I found a big when you do keypad lock then press the camera button it says press unlock and OK when all the other buttons say press unlock and * and there is no OK button to press in the first place

Noticed the hanging problem with mine today when I was switching through menu items. No big deal, although would be nice for a firmware upgrade.

Ive got the 6234, although running v3.70 firmware as well.

It doesn't allow to convert music files above 160kbps. I'd uninstall and & install the above mentioned version.

Some one said i causes a bug in the camera though, i hope not

EDIT

-Font size can be set to small but only in sms mode. The rest still cannot.
-First 4 seconds ringtones still very soft follow by normal loud tone after that. Still same and not solved yet.
-Camera still same.

I'm having a problem with this same phone running the default firmware.

It was fine when I first got it, then there was a white screen crashing the phone. And now everytime I turn it on theres a white screen coming up for a few seconds after entering security code before showing my actual wall paper and sometimes the white screen stays up for good and I have to turn it off and back on again.

Also when it goes into power saving mode, it doesnt dim itself anymore properly the whole screen just goes blank. Then when I press a button, it shows a white screen again for a few seconds and then shows the wallpaper. It never used to do this, all this started after it crashed that one time with the white screen!

When was the firmware released? I was told there is no new firmware updates available for this phone, will the new firmware update fix these problems I am having or do I have a dud one?

I wish it would be constant, they'll just think im screwing around if I take it back now and it works properly....

Got it back, but they screwed it up, i dont know why the opened the phone up but now the internal rumber around the screen is twisted, will have to take it back

Allows for changing of font sizes now from large, small or medium, not sure if that was in previous release

Has anyone got the changelog for v4.52 yet?

I am running v.3.70 and am having an issue with the contact list and have been in touch with Nokia support about it who suggested i take it to a repair centre. Rang the repair centre and they said that there was updated software for the 6233 (v4.52 i assume) but would take several days to fix it. Being a straight software update, i though a few days was very excessive. When i asked the person on the phone (obviously not a technician) if the software would fix my particular issue, she said the technician didn't know. At this stage i hadn't even explained the problem....which is the phone only looking at the last 7 digits of a contact number when comparing a received call to a the numbers in contact list.

eg.
If this number calls my phone +61409 123456 then the contact with the number +61249 123456 in my contact list will appear as the caller. Likewise if i entered the first number into my contact list when the second number was already in the list then it will say "Number already in use for xxxxxxxxxx"

i have this issue between a landline and a mobile number for separate people. Probably not a common occurrence but definitely a bug.

I wonder if thats a 'feature', so that it will recognise the multiple forms of the same number ie 02 1234 5678 and +612 1234 5678. It would work better in Australia if it went to 8 instead of 7 digits though.

Maybe you could help me Glenn. As you have the updated firmware you could check if this bug has been addressed.

If you could make a contact with the number +61 409123456 and another contact with the number +612 49123456, does it tell you that the second number already exists for the first contact?

You could use any numbers as long as the last 7 numbers are the same. I used he ablove numbers as an example because my area code is 02 and my first two numbers are 49. You could even test it by making a dummy contact with the same last 7 digits as your landline and then calling your 6233 with your landline phone and see what happens (may work better if you don't have your landline attached to a contact already).

This would save me a lot of hassles and i would appreciate your help.

The update is very simple for them to do, in Perth it is done in an hour, and there is only 1 service centre here.

It is worth questioning why the retailers are selling the phone with old firmware to start with, and then the customer is expected to go without a phone for several days - rubbish.

You must be in the queue at the same service centre as me to be so testy.

For a brand new phone, and the fact that it is a job that should only take a few minutes, i think it is totally acceptable for me to jump ahead of the queue.

1) When you open videos using 'Open in Sequence', they play halfway then the screen goes white then skips to the next video.

2) I had reception issues but i havnet had a time to check them out yet.

As mentioned before if anyone knows how to "de-Brand" one of these I'd be so greateful. I have two Telstra and one Optus branded handsets and I'm with Virgin!

As for the NSU and v5.10, I did the 6233ME that's Optus Branded, no wories from 4.something to 5.10.

But when I went to do the Telstra one, I had to try _5_ times.

1) "There was a internet connection problem" (Twice)
2) "Found v5.10" but crashed downloading it
(Why doesn't it save the FW file locally instead of downloading it every time!!!)
3) "No newer Firmware available" (Twice)
(What rubbish as it already told me 5.10 was available but crashed during the download!!)

So eventually I managed to get it to find the v5.10 update and get through a download, and it's all good now.

BTW I suffered from the MMS "white screen" on BOTH handsets. This firmware fixed both! :)

So to all those that have tried and failed, I say KEEP TRYING! At least 5 times. Both Optus and Telstra "branded" phones will get v5.10 if you persist.

Now how about helping us get rid of hopping penguins and spinning cubes? How the hell do you "Un-Brand" a handset???

PLEASE? .... Anyone?

Ok, I wanted to wait untill all 4 of my 6233 handsets were done, in case I shot myself in the foot by posting this.

But on the topic of un-Branding a handset. Well, I just couldn't accept that I had to live with it. There had to be a way. So I decided to ask the Nokia techs myself in person. I walked into my local Nokia Care Centre, asked to speak to a tech about my phone. As I wanted them to think I already knew it could be done, I asked "How much would it cost to re-flash my handset with normal Nokia software". He informed me that if the handset was still under warranty, it was a _FREE_SERVICE_!!

So over the last week I have rotated every 6233 handset into the Nokia Care Centre, and they have all come back with "Generic" Nokia firmware 5.43.

So to all you "3" users, if your handset is under warranty, you might like to try changing it for "Generic" firmware. You will have to re-do a lot of settings because the backup software _DOESN'T_ backup everything. But I think this is a small price to pay for removing Hopping Penguins, Dancing Shadows and Spinning Cubes, and getting back PTT icons, and loads more.

And no, I never found out how much it would cost if the handset wasn't in warranty. They were a bit cautious about telling me and avoided it by telling me my "handsets were still in warranty and there was no charge".

Oh, and they also removed the Optus Network Lock on the 6233ME unit as well = BONUS!! :)

You mustn't be going to the Melb CBD Nokia Centre.

I asked them to remove the Optus branding on my 6233 but was told they arent allowed to.

They have to replace the firmware with the same branded version the phone was originally sold with :(

Wiz.au two questions:

1. Are you talking about Nokia Center in Chatswood by any chance?
2. Don't you think something happened to camera pictures quality after 4.91 ?
