I used to participate in eve-radio, a radio station online based around the game Eve-Online. It was immense fun, and I had a huge listener base at the time, until some issues with my ISP at the time (not WildIT) caused me to stop the DJ business. I;d like to start up again, and perhaps make this a WildIT service, where myself and other people can broadcast for wild customers to listen. So, here's the poll part of the post:

0 == I would not listen
1 == I would not broadcast/DJ
2 == I would listen
4 == I would participate/DJ

Add up your score from the above, and indicate your result on the poll below (ie: I would listen, but I wouldn't DJ for the server == 2 + 1 == 3) -- Select two options from above only.

I have both worked in Radio at a commercial level, and I have been a nightclub DJ for almost 10 years.

Sure, I'm in on this. I have alot of live mixes that I can run at any time.

The problem I can see is, to play anything mainstream Wild would need to purchase licensing which isn't cheap. As such you would need to purely make use of users own mixes and sets.

I am not interested in DJ'ing but I would be more then happy to take part in the administration, pre-mixing, etc.

Graham what would we expect from this radio station? Will it based on a game like your previous radio station? Or is it music? If its music what sort?

Eve-Radio was a mix of Music (Generally garage band and Mixes), game related talk, and the occasional off topic talk.

Yes I used to play Eve Online :)

Don't know yet :) It'll be WildIT based, but it will always contain music.
I'm just interested in getting something going. We'd probably commercialise a little (WildIT Audio ads etc) with talkback and discussions. Maybe some talk on recent Aussie broadband news, definitely music (a HUGE variety), but I am not certain on the details of that yet.

This is a concept. By no means am I ready-to-go with a server and a set list. This is very much in the infancy stages.

One of the reasons I suggested it, is because it could be considered a "community building" effort. If you're all listening to the radio station, participating (maybe getting sponsorship somewhere and giving away prizes) then you start building a group of people that chat together, share interests and chat regularly. It would probably have an IRC channel to allow DJs to accept requests and announce things / run IRC games etc.

Its something I would really like to do, and something that I will be putting my own time into after my regular work hours, to see what arrangements can be made re: bandwidth, music to be played, DJs, offline auto-djs and more.

This is the one thing I have felt that Internet Radio has always missed out on. Until Internet Radio adopts some of the traditional radio aspects it will always be lacking in my eyes (ears?).

I definitely agree. Idealy you wouldnt know if you were listening to a proper commercial radio station or not. There needs to be:
* Fluidity
* Structure in programming
* Listener feedback
* News / Current issues
* Discussions / Non music segments
* Music
* Special features

... and much more. The main point is structure, fluidity and a range of segments.

Bring on metal bands who dont have a record contract that would give rights to play their music at no charge (And it needs to be original not a cover)...

Sorry, just checking out your threads to see how happy everyone is over here... bit of planning....

You guys cant really add up can you? check the results:

5 people get a 0 - not even possible if you add 2 scores
a score of 2? I would listen but i would not listen?!
4 - participate, but not even bother to listen (slightly more possible anyway)

Sorry, couldn't help myself.... but I think its a great idea though. Good luck with it!

If you're looking for material, I would recommend contacting bands from free online music communities, such as MP3.com.au or Myspace music, etc.

I'd be all for it just for the exposure, and I'm sure there would be plenty of others...

Just as long as you don'y play it before or after any of that hip hop or house crud...

(Is there even a difference?)

lol.

At the moment, I am looking into www.ascap.com/index.html
ASCAP: American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.

They seems to have a fair range of stuff in their database, and their licensing isn't that large. There is a whole heap of legal mumbo-jumbo that I'll need to trawl though. But I will be doing this out of hours.

There is a lot of preparation required. I'll need to check this licensing, then ensure that the music I have is separated into groups: Licensed and unlicensed (since some artists are not covered, even some songs). and then I'll need to speak to Tim + team about bandwidth and whether they want to go ahead with this sort of thing.

Its going to be a bit of a travel to get there, but we will, and it'll be awesome :)

Cheers,
Graham

Still interested in helping out with this, I know of a few bands and DJ's that will gladly let their music be played on a station.

I'm hoping this will eventuate and will gladly lend my assistance to the venture.
