Optus dont offer ADSL in Tassie cause its just not viable.
Telstra offer it because they have to....if they didnt have to, you guys would be lucky to have dialup.

The other BB providers don't seem to think so.

Good for them.

Keep in mind the only way to get anything out of Tasmania is by buying backhaul off Telstra. Resale DSL isn't always a huge margin product at the best of times, add this fact and it becomes that much harder to make it viable down there.

To raise a thread from the Dead, can Optus please do one of 2 things.

1. Offer ADSL products in Tassie.

or.

2. Stop advertising the plans on the local TV stations, for products that when you call up about "aren't offered in your state".

Regards,

Any national client just does a whole company buy with WIN, SCB etc and very likely via media buyers (another link the chain, the weakest I'd argue) so they really don't have much idea what's available in what part of a market and what's not. No excuse I agree, just a probable explanation.

You don't see these ads only on TDT 10 (the digital ch10) do you? If so, then SCB's playout in Canberra is on the blink again and they're taking ATV-10 feed direct again.

lol
well said
i feel like to use the telechoice catologue as dunny paper
seen a good deal on tv that i would of taken up if it was available here

I have been a optus customer for years pay tv, dialup intenet and both home and mobile, but i wouldent even bother using optus again until they stop treating tasmania like a back water state

The only company that provides backhaul to Tasmania is Telstra.

Telstra monopolise this so they charge 1 arm and 1 leg for access.

Hence it wouldn't be cost efficient to provide a service in Tasmania.

Yeh they get a discount if they buy a national advertising block then they would if they pick individual states.... would be cheaper to blanket advertise all states than it would be to cherry pick states

BIT OF TRIVIA: ADSL was trialed in Launceston, Tasmania by Telstra many many years ago even before it was offered to mainland Australia. It was some government subsidised project. Apparently you Tamanians make good test subjects.
