Hi,

Can anyone tell me where i can purchase an Optical/Coax connection pci bracket that will connect to the S/PDIF riser pins upon my sound card. (Just the normal black flat connector type for the card , Nothing special or unusual)

All i want on the bracket is Optical out (the little square port ) or if it also has coax i do not mind .. I do not need any other connections upon this bracket.

I also do not mind if the connection will fit into a DB type of arrangement as i have a few knockouts on the rear of my case for these and i'm full on PCI type bracket slots ... I was just going to cut a new hole somewhere.

While i'm about it ... Is there any difference in Toslink cable ? I found a Zensonic 1m cable for $22 and wondered if this brand was dodgy .. Yet the same supplier i can not find any connection I/O unit to connect to S/Pdif.

If your wondering what i want to do ... I wish to connect a creative audigy PC sound card to a home theatre system, I just wish to test this sound card as i also am looking at getting an HDA sound card that has this and the Toslink already in the kit (HDA - X-Plosion card)
Creative have a connection module upon there site but i can't find anyone in australia who has this item or similar. This input i require is OPTICAL only ... My HTS unit has no provision for coax.

So i am assuming all Optical I/O connector plates are the same things when you connect to the S/Pdif on the creative sound card risers. I need to obtain this online as i am a long way from a city, Website links would be appreciated.

Thanks for all reply's in advance :)

The spdif port on the bracket is the same (the part that allows you to connect to your stereo via a toslink/ spdif optical cable), but the wires and plug that actually connects the spdif bracket to the riser pins on the motherboard (or soundcard) might vary from brand to brand. E.g., I am using a Gigabyte optical s/pdif bracket on my Albatron motherboard. To get it to work, I had to pull the wires out of the little plug (the part that connects the bracket circuitry to the riser pins on motherboard) and put them back in in a slightly different order. For audio output, there are basically 3 wire outputs you need to line up correctly -

GND - ground, usually a black wire I think
SPD_OUT - a white wire usually
VCC - usually +5 Volts - usually a red wire.

You need to find the order of these on the creative soundcard, then make sure that order is the same as the spdif bracket. If it isn't, you can carefully pull the wires out of the plug (by pressing down a little catch thingy in the plug where the wires connect they are released) and rearrange them so they match the sound card.

Auspcmarket is selling two Gigabyte spdif brackets, they are noth $30.80 each:

Thank you for the reply Aidanjm

I looked at the relative link and at the pin arrangement ... very different to the risers upon my sound card and i thus far have been unable to find a pin out of this setup.
Hence i'm very skeptical about connecting it wrong, If i only could obtain the I/O card that ships with my sound card for japan customers would be so much easier as it is made for this unit. Failing that the I/O module upon the creative site that should work for this card also using an rca as a spdif input and output with the module that plugs in to the normal port.

This is becoming rather frustrating ... May be just easier and simpler to obtain a new card with the right ports upon it and be done with the BS of matching this and that and crossing fingers hopeing it works kind of routine.

Thank you anyway for your time and effort with your post.

Cheers OS :)
