Hi, i need help with my Wild It connection. Since i churned from internode to the 1500/256 unlimited BG plan on wild, my bit torrent speeds have dropped drastically. I used to achieve good speeds with Internode, almost maxing out my download speeds but with Wild, i seem to get a max of 35 Kb/s. Ive done port forwarding and every kind of tweaks i could possibly do to the Azureus client and yet i'm still achieving low speeds. I've come to a conclusion that it is because of the service itself. Before with internode, i used to have UPNP enabled as i was using a dynamic IP address but with the static IP that comes with Wild, i had to disable my UPNP. The slow speeds has started since doing this. Hope you can help.

I also use the latest version of Azureus and don't have any problems on the 1500/256 BG plan, maxing it out is never a problem on any decent torrents.

I thought UPNP was used by programs to open up ports through your router, rather than manual port forwarding. I didn't think it had anything to do with a static of dynamic IP.

If you have correctly port forwarded you shouldn't need UPNP.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I would look at your settings.

Are you on the Veridas or Nextep network?

I'm on the nextep network. Whenever I enable UPNP i keep getting this message from Azureus. UPNP: Lost Connection to service 'WANIPConnection' on UPnP device '192.168.1.1'. This message keeps coming ever 30 seconds. When i disable upnp, this message stops.

you can't just enable UPNP you need to port forward on your router.

For example the address of my PC on my internal network is 192.168.1.2 and my router is 192.168.1.1

so I simply open a TCP/UDP port for 192.168.1.2 on the port of your choosing. I personally use a high port above 40000 so it doesn't conflict with anything else.

Is UPNP port mapping enabled in your router?

I would suggest sticking with manual port forwarding for Azureus anyway. Use a TCP/UDP port above about 42000, i think that is the unused range.

I've done that also. I've set my port to 50000 and port forwarded it to 192.168.1.2. I was using this setting while on internode with upnp enabled and received really high speeds. I presumed that it will be the same iwth Wild, but its not happening that way and i have had to disable my UPNP. I still don't know whats wrong. I have even set my upload speed to 5kb/s which the modem selection on azureus.

OK you expect to get great speeds when you are uploading at 5k? lol

It is recommended that you have 2.5k available per slot. If you have 2 slots per torrent and have 3 torrents running that is 15k.

Also look at the swarm average speed, peers to seeds ratio. You are not going to get 150k on every torrent.

Your upload should max out at a bit above 25k so 15k is a good speed. The whole point of torrents is to give back as much as you take.

The faster you upload the faster you donwload.

It will reduce your download speeds, often drastically.

A good idea is to set it at 80% of your capacity. This will allow you to still browse with no problems.

15k is safe.

its not instant man... you have to give it time. Plus what are you trying to download? Is it a new file or old file?

One thing to try (doesn't always work) with azureus is to right click on the status bar where it says your upload speed and select auto. I don't use azureus a tonne but I don't have speed issues when I do. The best test is to find a torrent with at least twice as many seeds as peers for the test (doesn't really matter if you want the files, just a test).

I don't think it is anything wrong at your end with this torrent, it just seems slow. It was happy to sit at about 10k.

You don't have any problems with http speeds do you?

Nah, my http speeds seem fine. Just my Bit torrent speeds. When i used utorrent to download this file, it hardly even connected.

There may be a lot of seeds but they are probably very slow seeds.

I find a lot of torrents take a bit of time to get going, leave it run for a while (20mins or so) and you will probably see a speed increase, but it did seem as though the swarm average was similar to what you are getting)

Thanks for your help dane. I hope this picks up. I have no complaint about Wild, just that this Azureus problem is getting to me. I was hoping i'd get the same kind of speed that i used to get from internode.

I have abit of experience with this...

check this page out:
azureus.aelitis.com/wiki....php/NAT_problem

Do a port scan with this link replacing the numbers ion the end with the port you use.
https://grc.com/x/portprobe=52525
The Azureus page lets you know what stealth etc means

then follow the rest of the advice on the page,

One last tip, if your using a router do an ipconfig on the DOS prompt. Start-->Run---> "type" cmd . Then type ipconfig and it will tell you the ip your router assigns your computer. like 10.1.1.2 to port forward.

Ofcourse only do this if your torrents dont go green(if you have a NAT problem). If they do your problem is not with WILD.
