3DMark®06 is the worldwide standard in advanced 3D game performance benchmarking. A fundamental tool for every company in the PC industry as well as PC users and gamers, 3DMark06 uses advanced real-time 3D game workloads to measure PC performance using a suite of DirectX 9 3D graphics tests, CPU tests, and 3D feature tests. 3DMark06 tests include all new HDR/SM3.0 graphics tests, SM2.0 graphics tests, AI and physics driven single and multiple cores or processor CPU tests and a collection of comprehensive feature tests to reliably measure next generation gaming performance today. Futuremark's exclusive Online ResultBrowser web service tracks and compares 3DMark06 scores.

It will also be helpful if all scores were posted in similar format. A suggested template would be something like this...

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 FX-55
Motherboard: DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D
Memory: 1GB (2x512MB) OCZ PC3200 EL Platinum Rev 2
Hard Drive: Western Digital 74GB Raptor
Video Card: Asus X850XT Platinum Edition

3DMark06 Score: 2247
SM2.0 Score: 1174
HDR/SM3.0 Score: N/A
CPU Score: 1017

Screenshot: img465.imageshack.us/my....=3dmark066wp.jpg
Futuremark Link: service.futuremark.com/o...p?projectType=14

Please Note: In order to be added to the WP 3DMark06 records a screenshot is required for verification.

Now that was painful to watch my system get done by that. The processor section showed 0FPS the whole time. The main 2 tests averaged about 5FPS.

That would be correct. I am about to cry!

My 3dMark06 score is 2206 :(

The first two tests ran quite fine (they seemed to be the same scenes as from the 3dMark05 tests with minor modifications). The two subsequent CPU tests reallllly strained my PC!

All in all I had 4 tests (2 GPU, 2 CPU). Some of you with SM3.0 compatible hardware might have a couple more tests to run...

My rig is exactly identical to this, apart from a different sized HDD and different RAM brand. I will install it and run 3DMark06 soon, but I would imagine the scores would end up being similar.

The last screenshot on this page seems to indicate 2/2 for the HDR/SM3.0 Graphics tests whereas on my PC it says 0/2 (because X800 series does not support SM3.0).

Come on, I know there are more than a couple Whirlpoolers out there who have more than enough money! Let's hear how the Dual Opteron 154s go with 2x 7800GTX 512mb in SLI, and both the CPUs and GPUs overclocked to all buggery! :)

FYI 3DMark06 measures 3D performance of future games, future games will mostly be SM3.0. Hence the ATI X800 series will probably not be able to play future games on max settings or perhaps drop to lower DX7/8 setting like in COD2.

3DMark is a tool (subsidised by the major hardware companies) which panics performance seeking consumers into paying more and more for their hardware. Sure it has some (several) useful purposes, but remember that encouraging people to get new hardware was an objective of this software.

So let's all get SLI'ed 512MB GTX's (apparently that combo doesn't even work) so we can own 3DMark06.

Even though its purpose is to assess the 3d speed of your system, 3dmark06 was kind of boring - bringing back old clips and the new ones wasn't very exciting.

Also on the previews they showed a big arse city or something? - wheres that in the benchmarks?

$669.471 AUD is nonsense. It's not like we run an article and benchmark 10 video cards in a comparison test. Free version is enough to get a baseline score when comparing your mark with somebody else. Also when they benchmark cards they have strict conditions where all else is equal. Here, you have one user who has overclocked card, another running higher processor clock, different memory timings etc. That said, I think this test is accurate in that we are all running the same edition and can see where other people have gained mark using the same hardware.

It crashes just after loading (but before starting the display) of the second test (firelight forest or something?).

Done it a half dozen times, a couple of reboots... useless.

I'm pretty sure there are.
I get 2 FGX tests, 2 CPU tests, then another 2 GFX tests.
The last GFX tests are called...
"Test 3 - Canyon Flight"
"Test 4 - Deep Freeze"
I'm assuming Deep Freeze isn't seen by X8xx owners, so i made a FRAPS capture of it.(::edit:: same might apply to Test3)
Only got the free FRAPS, so 30 second capture limit.
Please excuse, my 1st attempt with FRAPS, and i only have a 6600GT ;)
In XviD, orignals were ~25 meg ea
Deep Freeze part 1of2 2.6Meg
Deep Freeze part 2of2 2.3Meg

If anyone wants anything else captured, let me know.
Tho probably better if one of the 7800 boys could do it ;)

Because of your CPU. He has a 3.2GHz and 3DMark06 uses the CPU more in determining your final score compared to older versions.

mine

his

SM 3.0 Score 583 Marks

i thought the cpu only added to the 'final' score not the individual gpu tests....

The CPU test I thought is stand alone meaning it should not affect SM2.0 or HDR/SM3.0 Score. Maybe you need better GART driver? Might want to look at the date of release for your motherboard, some older board stop supporting later cards which means the application cannot fully utilise shader.

:edit: I mean CPU

If you have more questions about this you can send me a WHIM but basically you need to know the model number of your motherboard and retrieve the latest version GART driver for your AGP. This is essential for any AGP card and can make the difference between 500 and 1500 points, not to mention gaming performance. If there is no stand alone GART on the website, remove your chipset driver and install the latest which will include this.

:edit: As I said earlier older models generally lose support after a certain period of time. This is one problem with using later card on older motherboards and one I don't think you will solve outside buying a new one. But still look for any later revisions anything later than you have got will be helpful.

Hmm I have a similarly spec'd PC (FX-55 and 1GB OCZ RAM) to the Anandtech test system and a 6800GS card has a better overall score than my X850 XT Platinum Edition?

My card scores 2206 whereas the 6800GS scores 2372.

The only reason I can think of is because the 6800GS has SM3.0 support? Just another reason why people should take these benchmarks results more subjectively :P

I have had this theory myself. My X800 series card scores around ~1500 in 3d mark06, while numerous 6600gt's score greater that ~1700. Although the situation seems reversed in 05, where I score 4570 and most 6600GT's score around ~4000.

I think 06 seems to be reliant (?) on SM3.0 while 05 is based more on SM2.0. Can any others confirm this ?

well, thats the speculation thats been going around.

if u guys really wanted to find out , we could always do a regression analysis of the SM2.0 Score, HDR/SM3.0 Score and the CPU Score on the final overall score to get the exact relation ship between them.

subjective why? you chose the card with only shader model 2.0b support than expect to do worse in a test designed to use shader model 3.0

im sure itd be exactly the same in games...
