Me Being A Diehard Hip Hop Fan, Listening To Aussie and Old School Hip Hop. God i fkn h8 gangster and modern commercial rap from america, and now australia is heading the same way.

But anyways, the one song that instantly came to my head pre 90's was
Raising Hell - Run DMC.
But pretty much the entire Raising Hell CD could go in there, Everysong is a classic and is still much better than anything that is being put out today.

In that basket i could add, hundreds of songs from other artist from Public Enemy to Carlos Santana, but im not going to go through them all :p

1. Led Zeppelin - Good Times, Bad Times - While not their best song, I think this is the best album opener ever, add to that the fact that it was their first album. Basically they're saying "Hi, we're Led Zeppelin and we're gonna make your ears bleed" with this song. Extra points for Bonham's brilliant kick drum work (that's not a double kick kids).
2. Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced? - Pure brilliance.
3. Pink Floyd - Echoes - Epic.
4. Rush - 2112 - The title track from Rush's second album, and their first real 'progressive' song. Takes you through all the riffs (there are alot) they're going to use throughout the song in the first couple of minutes with a brilliant intro, then goes about chopping and changing them for the remaining 15 minutes or so. Song structure at its best.
5. Frank Zappa - Chunga's Revenge - Instrumental with a Saxophone pumped through a wah and a fuzzed out bass. Then of course Zappa comes in with his guitar and makes you forget how good all the other musicians are.
6. Jeff Beck - Constipated Duck - While Frank Zappa is said to have spurned 70s instrumental funk, Jeff Beck epitomised it with this song from Blow By Blow.
7. Soundgarden - Hunted Down - 1987, Seattle 'grunge' is here, and it's not going away.
8. Soundgarden - Rusty Cage - 1991, we're still here and this is how much we've changed in 4 years. Another great opener and a hell of a riff. This song, and the album Badmotorfinger to me are 90s rock at its best.
9. Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Sir Psycho Sexy - funk has come a long way.
10. Kyuss - Thee 'Ol Boozeroony - This is music to make love to.

Absolutely, easily the best thing to come out of Seattle and the "Grunge" movement and Badmotorfinger was "The Garden" at the height of their prowess!

Rusty Cage and Jesus Christ Pose are coupled with 2 of the best videos of the 90's also IMO.

Best opening song on a debut album ever? Surely it must be :)

I've just remembered Bob Dylan who deserves at least one song - maybe Tangled Up in Blue or Rainy Day Women (of robvious reasons ;))

Love that Sir Psycho Sexy as well - those harmonics are awesome - how many styles does a 21 year old John Frusciante nail over the course of that one song, let alone the whole damn album.

Oh and for Zappa i'd go "The Gumbo Variations" and Soundgarden i love "outshined".

Nice list mate.

Yep, and with Flea's wahed bass behind it beautifully syncopated with the drums it's a killer song.

It's hard to pick a best song from Badmotorfinger, Outshined is definitely up there, as is Mind Riot, Slaves & Bulldozers, Room A Thousand Years Wide, New Damage, etc. But I give it to Rusty Cage for the wah filtered guitar, the chugging downtuned low B, and the vocals in the last verse.

As for Zappa, we could be here all day discussing which of his song is the best!

The remix with Sarah Mclachlan I'll support, but I reckon the original is pretty so-so. Also 2002, so not exactly "old school".
