I accidentally forgot to remove my iPod shuffle 1G from my pocket and put it in the washing machine (on "Delicate" mode)

Although my iPod looks (and smells) nice and clean, it does not work anymore. After a couple of days, I plugged it in my lappy and could see the LED blinking but was getting a message that the USB device was unrecognised.

My feeling is that the thing is buggered but I was wondering if there was a way to fix/reformat it. Anyone had a similar experience and/or positive outcome?

Cheers

Kim

I wash my usb sticks every other wash and they always seem to make it out ok, but I dare say the shuffle is a little more delicate than just plain storage. Good luck.

Delicate mainly because the Shuffle's got an active power source in it.

It's almost certainly dead.

If it's any consolation, it probably would've buggared up anyway.

Chill dude. Relax. Take a deep breath. Feeling better? Good!

If the thread would have been irrelevant to the category it's in, a mod would have moved it to another category. Simple. But anyway, thanks for your constructive and helpful contribution to the thread.

Oh, by the way, I left the thing in a ziplock bag along with silica gel for 24 hours and, miraculously, it now works like if nothing happened to it.

thanks for all your responses.

Cheers

Now that's a very clever idea - hadn't considered silica gel.

You may still suffer some corrosion inside the player, but hopefully all will be okay. And if worst comes to worst you could always get the "battery replaced" ;)

i thought this forum was created for music/ipod/itunes etc because you cant post itunes/ipod related stuff in the apple forum anymore.

On topic though, the battery leaking has probably killed it even though you let it dry out

Since yesterday morning, I used it for over 6 hours (even on the train on my way in to work this morning) and it's showing absolutely no sign of malfunction. I'll keep an eye (and ear) out for any problems in the near future though...

Wow, that is pretty impressive. I would have thought it would have been dead for sure. I guess all it needed was time to dry out :)
