I thought it'd be a good idea to maintain a list of websites that have a mobile version that can be viewed by a phone or PDA. I know that there are plenty of imode sites that can be classified as mobile compatible (and can be viewed from non-imode phones/PDAs), but I only know of a few:
www.google.com.au/imode
www.news.com.au/imode

Does anyone know the rest? Eg. ebay, whereis, smh/age, etc?

Any other mobile compatible sites that you can't do without? Please post here!

I know a couple that work with my treo

wap.ebay.com - excellent much better than the full html and works with my ebay
www.news.com.au/wireless - quick & fast news site
www.smh.com.au/handheld - optimised for handhelds
wap.telstra.com - some sites accessed via telstra wap portal
mobile.msn.com - msn for mobiles

also use

gmail.google.com - which is standard address but renders in plain text which makes it much faster than main graphic version

Any more?

Thanks for this link its great! Is there a version that can search Aussie ebay listings? The my ebay section works great though. Excellent for checking how your auctions are going.

As far as mobile and pda sites go, you can search for mobile-only sites on Google at www.google.com/xhtml?cc=GLOBAL&lc=en (sorry I can't find a better address - www.google.com/pda doesnt have a mobile-only search option)

Try putting wap instead of www for some websites, see how you go. wap.bbc.co.uk

wap sites are dead, if your phone does java the opera mini browser kicks ass and lets you view regular websites but formats them for display on your phone exceptionally well.

to see more about it - www.opera.com/products/m...eramini/campaign

or to get it point your phones browser at - mini.opera.com

apparently this mini browser is so good, it's the main reason google are considering buying opera :o

Opera for mobile has been updated (and it still pops up a trial version warning, set to expire June 1 at the moment) : www.opera.com/products/m...cts/winmobileppc

Also,

mobile.live.com

is a portal into the hotmail live beta - I have this, not sure if you need it to access the above url. By the way, I have no idea why I got it - I hardly use hotmail but I got an invite to hotmail live beta, then the mobile live beta.

I have wriiten a page that retieves the lowest petrol prices in Melbourne and the travel times for the Monash, Westgate and Eastern Freeways.

It only returns the text so it doesn't use unecessary download as most internet access plans are still horribly expensive. It might be useful for people who use the freeways extensively.

Lowest Petrol Price: 135.9
Westgate Inbound: 17.
Westgate Outbound: 18.
Monash Inbound: 20.
Monash Outbound: 32.
Eastern Inbound: 13.

Whereis has a mobile site available through the Telstra WAP portal - it's open though so you
can use it from any* carrier service.

You can nav there via browser too:
wap.telstra.com/wap -> Search & Info -> Whereis Mobile

Unless you have a telstra sim, the automatic location feature won't work, but you can still manually enter addresses and get maps and directions.

Optus also has a maps and directions service on it's wap portal: web info here, but i've never used it on a handset.

*Unless your carrier blocks access to external sites - which is rare these days

For those who catch Public Transport in Sydney, the 131500 folks have a wap site
mobile.131500.info great if you catch buses around the place.

Deutsch Bahn in Germany have a interesting site, where you buy "mobile" tickets,
the site is in german, so you need a little understanding of the language to
read mobile.bahn.de (I have bookmarked
mobile.bahn.de/bin/mobil/detect.exe if the other doesn't work)

Fairfax has dropped the old mobile verision, and now have
mobile.smh.com.au , which looks like a WAP site, OK if you don't have a touchscreen, as it uses keypad numbers.
Those with a bigger or touchscreen may prefer the text-only version of the website, www.smh.com.au/text

Many others like Whitpages also have a text-only version that is good for mobile devices:
