well after being with optusnet for 7years i need something faster and better.. so this is my question

I've been thinking of moving over to ADSL2+ Extreme package for a fair while now, and I am curious to know what speeds I would actually get or if it will be faster then my current Optusnet Cable 1.1mbps? More so if it would be quicker then my current!

I know the speed will be based on many factors, though I am curious to know if it will in fact be faster then my current connection to the Optusnet network? I'm currently uploading at 30kb/s and download max at 1.1mbps

I'm roughly 2.2km from the exchange (camp hill exchange) in Brisbane, Qld

Have a look at the diagram on this page:

http://www.internode.on.net/residential/internet/home_adsl/extreme/

It will give you an approximate idea of the speed you'll get.

However, you need to note that even though you're about 2.2km from your exchange the cable from your house to your exchange may take a longer route, or may not be very good quality. These could cause you to get a slower speed than you expect.

Thank you very much for the reply, If i were to talk to a representative from Internode, would they be able to give me details on how far the wiring would be from the exchange to my house, and if the copper wiring is any good? cause the last thing i want is to have them say its all top notch and will have good speeds etc etc and to find its rubbish.. So are there reps any good in this sort of field?

Not to fast there my friend! The Extreme ADSL2+ plans are for those lucky enough to have Internode hardware within their Exchange. For the majority of people, this isn't likely!

That said, read the following...

Internode has signed a revised wholesale access agreement with Telstra that allows it to offer ADSL2+ broadband services through Telstra DSLAM-equipped exchanges nationally from next month. – Next month being December (now). That article was posted in November.

Have a read of the full story here: http://www.internode.on.net/news/2008/11/115.php

Also check out this thread: /forum-replies.cfm?t=1077493

Go to the BigPond website and do an ADSL2+ check by typing in your phone number. If BigPond says you can get ADSL2+, chances are that you will be able to get it via Internode when they make it available.

Enjoy! :)

Also, check to see if you have an Optus DSLAM there as you'd be able to get ADSL2+ via the Naked plans or the Ultra plans.

Usually the free content and unmetered stuff compensates for that.
I take great advantage of the free content and use my download quota for multimedia stuff and other downloads.

Yes, but remember to consider that:

Naked means you don't need to pay line rental from Telstra. It deletes the dial tone, so you'll save say around $20 to $30 per month.

Ultra includes line rental and you can run a standard phone service, again, no need to pay Telstra $20 to $30 per month.

You would have paid this line rental going with the Extreme plans you were originally looking at.
