Hi,

I just moved in to my place and found out that the line available to my new place is within an optus infrastructur and only option when calling up optus is to get adsl with them.

After reading trhough the forum about optus broadband quality – I try to look for other option. (If anyone wanna comment on the quality please do)

After finding out that wesnet actualy can use optus lines and been advised that the product is called diffrent – which is the ULL product (abit woried as ti does go trhough an optus line – would that mean it also has same quality as optus?).

Just trying to get advise if I should go with the ULL product from Westnet (anyone who has this services if can share your experience please)

or

pay to get a telstra line and use other isp – e.g internorde naked dsl is so far what I have been looking at.

Cheers

Hi Gemsky.

We retail products from multiple wholesalers. May we suggest you contact our Sales team on 13 19 60 and they will be able to confirm what infrastructure is available at your location.

Kind Regards,

Paul.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have called your sales team and I have been advised by them that the only service available is the ULL product.

And I have also been told that you are discontinuing this product – so I am worried that this must be happening for a reason.

Maybe you can help explain to me what kind of quality from this services I will be experiencing compared to the other dsl product that you offer.

Thanks in advance.

Hi again Gemsky.

Personally, I have not used the ULL service, however whilst I was in Technical Support I saw no performance issues specifically related to the ULL product. The quality of our technical support however is second to none, and I have absolute confidence that our technical team will assist you in resolving any ADSL issues you may have, regardless of the carrier.

And I have also been told that you are discontinuing this product – so I am worried that this must be happening for a reason.

I'll be honest and say I didn't realise this product was being discontinued, but I would assume this is more about achieving synergies with iiNet since the acquisition, rather than any performance issues with the ULL service.

Hope this answers your queries.

Kind Regards,

Paul.

I've had Westnet ADSL2+ via both the Optus ports and now via the iiNet ports and they are identical in terms of speed and stability. If all they can offer you is an Optus port then there is no reason not to take it if you ask me.

abit woried as ti does go trhough an optus line – would that mean it also has same quality as optus?

Look at it this way, for years every ADSL provider offered it one way and one way only – via Telstra wholesale ports. And yet the "quality" varied wildly, with crappy ISPs out there alongside top quality ISPs like Westnet. There is far more to the "quality" of your broadband connection than just the copper line and the DSLAM port.

hi Dudley,
thanks so much for sharing ur experience.
surely now i'm more confident in applying for this ULL service, instead of forking out $300 just to change to telstra line.

cheers

Good choice. I'm on Westnet's ADSL2+ via Optus and the quality has been faultless, as has the tech assistance. I had to flash my modem/router BIOS to run at full speed without drop outs, but haven't lost the line (as far as I've noticed) in ~5 months since then.
