I have got the Netspace ADSL plan for first month. My problem is that my internet connection often drop out for a few seconds at night around 22:00 to 2:00 am. The modem working well.

My location VIC, Wantirna.
My modem is NetComm NB 9w.

Everyone who knows the solution please let me know. Great Thx.

I'm in VIC and I've been getting a lot of those too lately

I think it started about 2 weeks ago, and I'm getting disconnected at least once a day (some last up to 20 minutes). Some of them seem to happen at exactly 12am

Please fix this, it's very irritating

They are most likely either going to be issues with:

A) Your modem
B) The phone lines inside your house
B) The Line from your house to the exchange

Which lights go out on the modem? If it is the ADSL light you will need to do an Isolation test when it drops out and see if the light comes back on.

Or call Tech support and they most likely will tell you to do the same thing.

You need to determine if the it's losing ADSL sync or it's PPP session.

If it's ADSL sync as already mentioned it could be a line issue.
If it's the PPP session, you may need to change encapsulation or other connection related settings on your modem.

Do an isolation test before that time tomorrow night and see if it still dropouts, at least if still does you've ruled out alot of factors.

I'm also in Vic and am also having drop out issues over the last week or so. The dropout can last a few minutes to the 20 or so mentioned by another poster. I have actually come to check Whirlpool's Netspace forum to see if anyone else was having issues (though, I'm aware that they could be issues that are unrelated but coincidentally occurring at the same time) or else I'd determine that it was my problem alone.

Also in VIC, was almost dropping out early this morning, but not quite – it was like being shaped but worse, more like trying to use the internet over a 9600 baud modem.
I was trying to get to my.netspace.net.au to see if I was in fact shaped (although I thought it impossible because as far as I knew I'd used only 10% of my peak allocation and less off-peak) but couldnt even get that to load :) all is good now though.

definitely seems like our state is the common theme with these most recent issues, hope they can give us a solution.

I have noticed this too. Has been happening for months.

Quite often happens early on a Wednesday morning but not always so. Happens at least once a week. The connection cannot be re-established without rebooting the modem.

I am a big downloader and try to get the best value out of my off peak time. I have a suspicion that Netspace may be causing this as a means of "managing" their users download quantities.

It would be interesting to know if other users having this issue are also big downloaders?

I would download about 2 gig a month off peak & 8 gig peak. well within my 15GB / 15GB Limit.

I've been having a similar issue. I don't dropout (touch wood) but I start lagging really badly. Steaming youtube will be terrible and I will get over 130 ping while playing when I usually get 30-40ms. Nothing else is running at the back and it always happens late at night or very early morning... 11pm – 1 am ish.

Does netspace do anything special around those times? It would seem from the previous posts that similar issues (might not be related?) will happen at around the same time.

well there could be any number of reasons that you lost your connection we lurkers havn't a clue on what dsl service you have ie ADSL or ADSL2+, so i'm guessing :P if its adsl then it could be TW doing upgrades, they usually do there task between 12am to 6 or 7am, as for the ADSL2+ NS well sorry can't help ya there ya have to get ya info from an Adsl2+ user :P

but from an adsl point for me there was a ppp session loss this morning round 6:38am est when the mdem hung up... :) but nothing before that cept around the 12/11 there was another ppp session loss and modem hung up..

We have found an issue today which would have been causing disconnections in a very small % of customers ( only those connected on the Netspace DSLAMs in melbourne on certain plans, and then only a % of the time, and a maximum of once every 3 hours ). I'm currently in the process of testing a fix for this and it should be deployed later tonight or early tomorrow, this may have been the cause of your disconnections, then again most likely not if you are in Wantirna.

If you continue to get these disconnections after tomorrow, I suggest talking to customer support.

I'm in Mount Eliza on ADSL2+ and have been getting disconnections now for about 2 weeks, usually I check in the morning and I have sync but no ppp. Clicking "Connect" in in the modem web page usually fixes it. My modem is
BiPAC 7300GA
Hardware Version TRENDCHIP TC3162
Software Version 1.36-698-80.3_sso_billion

I was at home yesterday and was offline for about 3 hours mid morning. I tried several times, rebooting, turning modem off for 15 minutes, etc. I could always get sync, but authentication always failed. Yes, I do use the fully qualified username.

Here's what I'm seeing, sometimes if I just hit "Connect" I'll see about 10 of the "atm init aal5" an then it goes back to disconnected, nothing extra in the log.

Have you raised a request to the helpdesk? If you have can you please forward me the ticket number please, if its getting to the point of authenticating, it shouldn't be failing randomly, so I would like to look in our logs to see if your username is showing up with any failures.

Been happening in NSW too – might have to raise it with them as it's becoming a bit too regular.

FWIW I've been a Netspace ADSL customer for 3 years now (previous to that a dialup customer) and have been happy with the service – though of late the poor speeds and regular PPP dropouts and then authentication issues are getting a bit annoying....

Hey guys, ive been getting the same thing.. i got a NETGEAR D834G modem/router and seems to be dropping out every 10 or 15 minutes which is getting fustrating for me!! what seems to be happening is that my DSL light and Internet line would turn off and when i try to use the phone, there is no dialtone or pulse whatsoever! after a couple of minutes i would then hear a dial tone and the DSL and Internet light would turn on again..

man its only been happening since last friday (surprisingly after the big horrific storm and gusty winds) and im already fustrated! any tips or help to fix this crap problem?

thanks heaps.

Unsure about the connection to the exchange as far as i can figure the problem could be dslam back, have had no line problems on this line for 16 years, no noise or wet weather issues, it has taken 3 calls to get this escalated.

Have used 2 brand new modems, 3 PCS, purchased all new splitter and filters problem is unchanged.

It seems time specific from around 5.30 to 8.00 pm.

you may have already done this but,

When you get the disconnects,
pick up the phone and dial 1
listen for crackling, noise ect. on the line.

If there is noise on the line then this is likely
to be the cause of the disconnects.

If this is the case then you should lodge a
voice fault with your telephone provider.

In my experience a voice fault has far more
chance of being fixed than an ADSL fault.

Since I've been home for the last few weeks I'm suprised how often dropouts occur.

This mornings hour or so was yet another PPP issue. I never seem to have line issues though – always data flow or auth issues.

It's still not right though. Packet loss is around 20% and ping times are through the roof for the hosts I normally use for work.

EDIT: It seems there may also be a problem with Reach as this is where I keep losing packets.

I'm in Vic and I know for a fact it's not at this end where the problems are. We had two long outtages this morning and when I FINALLY got through to the Netspace IVR I got a recorded message indicating a problem that techs were working on. Thankfully had my Optus wireless modem for backup or may have cost my business dollars. And yes, it's been bad like this for about 2-3 weeks.
Good reasons at this point to seriously investigate a dual WAN modem router.

Regards the original post – I also have noticed regular short disconnections from netspace over the last few months. Some days are worse than others, but I am finding it very aggravating. It impacts on online gaming, and my ability to work remotely.

Regards the recent posts – I have also had two outages today, 45 minutes and maybe 25 minutes just then.

I've been with Netspace since 2002 – but I suspect it is time to give another ISP a go.

Netspace dropped their connection for 2.5 hours today (11AM to 1:30PM). Called them, but their automated phone system was down too. When we finally got through their rather flustered tech support explained that all their systems were down and they had no ETA on when it was getting fixed. We're on a business plan at $260/month and it's supposed to be constantly available as we can't work without a net connection (hosted CRM / email, etc).

Not happy.

Most likely a Helstra problem. It will be interesting to see what a Netspace rep has to say about this.

Are you losing sync or your PPP session?

If it's sync, it's not Netsapce but the phone line.
If it's PPP it can be Netspace having an outage it can also be your phone line as well.

Seems the Chap Auth server keeps dying?

doesn't this only require one hit to the Auth server to form an access connection to the internet, once you have hit this server it doesn't matter if the auth server dies after that, seems more of a data flow dropping out or your modem is just terminating on its own...

Sigh working fine the past few days. Just dropped again and syncing below any sort of speed.

DownStream Connection Speed 490 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 812 kbps

Seems everytime it rains in Melbourne the connection decides to go to hell. Seriously get it together Netspace.

Seems that the wholesaler must have some wires getting wet. Maybe a pit is under water.

Seriously get it together Netspace.

Have you raised a job with support?
You should keep a diary so they can have the information to speak to the wholesaler (more likely Telstra).

I'm new here, please be nice

Hi, My connection drops out every now and again especially at night.
I am on ADSL2+ and have a 2WIRE 2071-A Gateway modem from bigpond when I was with them. It used to do the same with bigpond. I was wondering if anyone has the same trouble?

Scoresby exchance in Melb

My internet has started going down for a few hours at a time at least 3-4 times per week.

Also, I get small drop-outs of a few seconds causing me to lose games on FIFA 09 on xbox live as I get disconnected and my opponent gets the win. It's pissing me off because I was ranked in the top 1000 now I'm at 5000 because of all the losses.

Hi, I have changed from my Bigpond 2-WIRE modem to a Netgear DG834G v4 Wireless modem/router and I have no problems at all. It is fantastic. Thanks to all who has given advise to an old fella.
