Hey, My internet keeps dropping out today, is anyone else getting this? I have tried turning off my modem then turning it back on again and thats lucky if it last half an hour before the next drop out. Some times it wont even last 5 minutes. I have ADSL 1500k Broadband, Speedtouch ST536 v6 Modem, and a Netgear WGR614 Wireless router. Any suggestions on how i could stop these annoying drop outs? Cheers.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuude, giving us information helps :P
Ok, isolation test for starters.
Check to see if the phone line is "noisy".
When it drops, does it lose sync? Or merely PPP?

Yeah i have tried an isolation test, same problems.
The phone line seems clear.. Doesn't appear to be "noisy".
And to be honest i don't know how to tell if it "loses sync, or PPP"

As you can see there arent to many visitors to this forum (except pretty much people who are leaving/left).
Rep help seems to be non-existent these days too.
The best way to help yourself is to call tech support and see if they can help you out.

What's the first indicator you have of it dropping out? Something pops up and tells you that you lost connection? Or you suddenly can't get webpages? What happens when you lose the Netgear and plug your computer directly into the Speedtouch? What do the Speedtouch lights do when you drop out?
If you haven't already contacted the helpdesk (which is probably the best idea anyway), a bit more information will help us to work with you to find out what the problem is!

Where are you located? The reason I ask this is because of storms that occurred in SE QLD there has been some areas that have been affected due to ongoing repairs.

The lights on the modem go out. First the Internet Light then the DSL Light. Also wont let me browse internet pages or play online game.

The same thing happens, it makes no difference.

I live just out of Ballarat in Victoria. I'm pretty sure things wouldn't have been affected down here. Internet has been working fine for the last two days though, and i have not tried anything different. Just a lot of modem restarts.

I live in Yarraville and my aapt connection drops out at least 4 times a day....i have just gotten used to it as im moving next year. every time you ring up to log a fault, they say they have run a test and the line is fine... not sure if i can blame the exchange or AAPT though. Its a pain in the arse....im moving back to the East. ha

It might not solve your problem but if someone had've told me, I wouldn't have needed so many routers--
--I was (still am) with aapt for quite a while when all of a sudden my internet started dropping out; I couldn't connect for more than 5 – 15 minutes solid without it dropping out! During my conversations (and there were a lot) with the aapt "help desk" I tried everything from isolation tests to talking through each and every router setting with them. I am a I.T. worker so I knew (or at least suspected) that the router settings and computer setup were correct but still they would not believe that there was any fault on the line. So, on their suggestion, I tried a new router -> no good -> update the firmware -> the router shat itself -> another new router -> no good!!! What to do? Oh-no!--there is a fee if Telstra have to come around and fix your connection and find that it is your problem. In my case the bloke from telsta couldn't even explain it himself!!..but he said he would try changing the connection over to a new one at the exchange. Lo and behold I have not had a single drop out since. — (By the way, This was a problem (on and off (more often on)) for just over a year, but it obviously wasn't aapt's fault, although they didn't really help, they just prolonged the agony). Synopsis: If it keeps happening tell AAPT to send out a bloke from Telstra, and if he can't find a problem tell him to change you over at the exchange, and if he won't do that, kick him in the shin and steal his laptop, Then everyone's happy. Except the bloke from Telstra (but I've never seen a really happy one yet).
