i found this isp on whirlpool call IMTV. They are too good to be true(8mbit adsl1 25 gig free upload $60). Is this isp just insanely cheap or just another dodo? Has any1 been with them, share us ur experience

Considering that it should be costing them around $56 or so to provide you with an 8mbit line, 25GB for $4 isn't sustainable. PIPE traffic isn't counted either. They appear to not have launched yet, and parts of their website have ©2007 so I am not sure how active they are.

You might want to check their website. There seems to be no indication of ADSL1 packages. And their ADSL2 seems a tad expensive when you consider the download quotas you get.

ALSO their own "enabled exchanges" (DSLAMs) whichare required for the 50Gb for $49.95 ADSL2 are at a very limited number of exchanges (5 in Sydney, 5 in Melbourne and 16 in Brisbane / Gold Coast). The other ADSL2 plans cost a LOT more than this.

Although the exchange list was updated in June 2008 (so at least they're "active") it still seems a bit sparse on information so I think I'd be steering clear for a while.

telstra wholesale port prices are not that hard to find. IIRC it is $54 for a 8000/384 port the last time I checked.

the cost for data from the exchange to the ISP then to the internet and then adding in some more for the amount of data and the people's wages and tax, it makes $60 very close to the bone (if not a loss product). If phone bundling is needed as well then it would be interesting to see what the asking price is.

Interestingly their 50GB 8Mbit plan is only $70. They seem to be using broadbandnext exchanges for ADSL2+ though, so it's possible they are related to Eftel.

Cheers :)

Just got off the phone with a person named Michael.

He's offering me a 50gb plan on 8000mbit for $70 a month.
The churn fee is $39 and there are no contracts.

They use the telstra core network according to Michael.

But one downside is that P2P is throttled 24/7 to about 512kbit.
I'm thinking about signing up for just and seeing how it goes?
He also suggested maybe figuring out a more custom plan for me.

Any more info guys and girls?

I suppose if you use Usenet then it's not such a big deal, but limited P2P 24/7 would disinterest a few users. Since there's no contract, giving them a month or 2 probably won't hurt to see how their service is.

Report back ;)

I asked for a custom plan with offpeak and onpeak

QUOTA: 10GB PEAK, 40GB OFF-PEAK TOTAL = 50 GB
Price: $ 79.95

Shaped at 128kbps. This will have all traffic running at your max attainable speed on a 8000 line

If these guys enable my Exchange i will for sure connect a Land line up to my house and drop Bigpond Cable for it, i know it may sound too good to be true, but it seems these guys have a purpose and IPTV looks as though it might be their marketing point.

In reality it would be cheaper to broadcast all those channels over the copper wire network then satellite as Sat access is damn expensive, at a guess i would also say that everything runs on VLAN's to segregate the data so one can not collide with the other, which would provide a higher level of QoS over their network.

If they are going to do this right they might actually succeed at it and bring about some competition, not just in the voice and data but also in the Tele-Media section as well.

Hope they pull this off.

Cheers,

David.

looks like i might be the guinea pig. I think ill be signing up for a month to try out the service. From what i gathered there is NO 24/7 P2P monitoring. There is however an abuse of service restriction. Basically if you leave bit torrent or p2p on for 24/7 and thats all then you will be restricted.

There are no contracts, and you can opt out any time you want. I think i'll be trying the 69.95 a month 8000 connection with 50GB (25 on 25 off peak).

When and if i do, ill let you all know.

Btw, you can call the ISP and ask to speak to Michael if you want to know more, i spoke to receptionist who didnt know much, and michael called me back later with all the info.

About 4 weeks ago I signed up my Parents to the 50GB 8000Kbps Plan as it proved difficult to share a 1500kbps plan with 3 computers all wanting to watch youtube at the same time while downloading files.

Fast Churn 6 Month Contract.

They love it. They had a really friendly rep go through the setup process with them once it had cut over and the service has not missed a beat.

I did some speedtests on it and they are getting great throughput.

Get on board while it lasts I say.

Yeh well the whole "where do you draw the line at" was a bit sketchy when it comes down to the throttling of p2p. The rep couldn't tell me any exact detail but said it comes down to fairness of use and that you have to be fair on the system and not hog resources...kinda confused since if you did sign up, you would be paying for the service, the speed and the set download limit. One would assume if you are paying for the product and stay within the download limit there should be no such thing as throttling...

Just rang them up and spoke to Michael for about half an hour. He was very helpful. They don't have any stupid contracts, no cancellation fees or anything. Just sign up and away you go. They're also very flexible..

He said you won't get throttled if you download alot. He said there was one previous case where he cancelled someones account because they went over their 50GB of downloads in the first 2-3 days, and even after they were shaped they would still download another 100GB or so.. That is what he defined as abuse..

But they are very flexible, and very helpful. He said the ETA for VoIP is next January..

Might sign up to them in the next week or so. They use Telstra lines so it's not as if they're using their own cheap lines or something.. If I do come across any troubles I can simply cancel the plan with no charge, so there's nothing to lose..

Hope this helps. Will report back when I sign up to them.. :-)

the procedure for signing up is as simple as the isp emailing you a sign up from, fill it in, send it back. I got the form, am yet to sign up, still pursuing other avenues with TPG at the moment. But still, it seems to be a good deal and relatively easy.

It's likely there's no advertising for IMTV elsewhere. So they are probably building their initial customer base on Whirlpool users.

If you look at http://imtv.com.au/products.html these plans are very different from the Whirpool listed ones.

Here's another plan, which I received a quote for (based on my typical usage)
DSL2+ $69.95 20GB Peak / 120GB Off Peak – Stand Alone

Unfortunately, aaNet/EFTel customers are ineligible to churn due to agreements between the companies using BroadnextNext infrastructure.

For now, it looks like I'll have to live with 10-12GB Peak, 96-100GB Off-Peak.
(aaNet $59.95 ADSL-Plan-4 Stand Alone) ;)

Hi guys,

I have just signed up with IMTV and thought since there's a lot of questions I'd share my experiences....

My ISP cut my quota from 100 gig to 50 gig, so i figured for $5 more per month (I was on 512/128k 100gig p/m $64.95) I'd try IMTV out. I sent maybe 3 e-mails or so over the course of a couple of days, all replied to very promptly. The ADSL1 plan is listed on whirlpool but not their website, so I asked, and was told it is one of the plans (8000/384 50 gig $69.95) but isn't listed

I sent in my application on late Thursday evening. Had an e-mail Friday saying I'd get an update Monday. I did, and they has me connected at 8am Wednesday morning, email not set up until the following morning.

So far have not had any issues with P2P data (had it going Wednesday night at somewhat around 3mbit for a couple of hours) and ran a speedtest and got just over 7mbit down on the test.

I was promised an sms when it was set up but it never came through.... did get an e-mail though.

I'm happy, been running really well, if anyone has any questions that I can answer, go ahead.

Does Internode not have a registered trademark on this particular term?

Interesting. Internode has a registered trade mark for "EXTREME" and "EXTREME BROADBAND" in relation to the provision of internet services.

Telstra opposed the registration of "EXTREME" but that opposition was withdrawn.

Whether or not "EXTREME ADSL2+" could be considered as infringing "EXTREME", well, thats something for Internode's lawyers I suppose.

Anyhow – You can search here: http://pericles.ipaustralia.gov.au/atmoss/Falcon.Search_Screen?p_search_no=0&p_SearchLevel=FULL

What does this mean exactly?

Data transfers to users via PIPE Networks (a peering provider) is free of charge.

If there's users connected via peering networks, downloading/seeding the same torrents as you, the data sent from them costs nothing, or you can access peered files/ftp/shares for no charge.
http://www.pipenetworks.com/ToolsAndResources/resources.shtml

You can make custom IP filters for various torrent/p2p clients if you want to only download from "local peered sources" (however, this may slow your download speeds in said applications).

Their website now matches BC, big red add on their webpage.

I'm probably going to churn to these guys after I check they can do adsl2 on my exchange.

Well I signed up via email on Monday (adsl2+ not on my exchange) for adsl1 and have been connected this morning, that's a 2 day turnaround.

So far so good.

Any ISP that cannot spell "Internet" correctly worries me.

Or perhaps there is a new network called "Ineternet"?

This must be a typing error.

I would appreciate it if you could tell me where you found it.

Ok, I have applied for a churn but apparently theres a problem. The rep said they use the same network as aanet so there was no need for a churn through telstra, just a mutual exchange of billing between aanet and imtv? im not too sure about this, the rep said he'll get back to me.

Their usage thing is currently down for maintenance, you can still check your usage by firing off an email with your username to support.

I got a reply within 10 minutes (afterhours too) with my usage.

Unless you're worried about losing what you've got with your existing isp, if you sign up to one of the BC plans they are all no contract and free churn (i think?) so there's not really any risk involved.

Thanks Michael for the quick response. Hope to be hooked up with IMTV in the New Year. If only PeopleTel could have been as helpful and responded to emails as quick as you have been.

IMTV looks great, they always respond to my questions quickly (even on weekends!!) and are as helpful as can be. I'm all set to sign up but i need to find a cheap phone carrier! I've heard that you can get away with the Telstra 19 dollar cap but if they find out that you're connected to adsl2 they'll disconnect it. As far as i can tell you cannot use the Optus 19 dollar cap because its done through their cabled network. I was wondering whats the next best alternative? Does anybody know? Any input would be much appreciated ^_^

Last time I sent an email they replyed really fast but I sent an email at 5pm and its now
8:06pm and still nothing. hmm

I'm not saying its bad at all if they reply to me at all over the weekend it is great! because most other isps or tech support for anything reply to your emails on weekends. its normaly 48 business hrs. I just hope its soon.

I guess it was a long email with about 10-20 indepth questions so I guess they are just taking their time to answer them right.

Even tho with previous experience with sending them emails and from other people on wp im not expecting an email till at least monday.

Oh yea i have a question why is imtvs adsl1 cost more then adsl2?

i thought adsl 2 was better then adsl 1?

I think it's because their ADSL1 plans (Telstra Wholesale?) use different infrastructure/DSLAMs to their ADSL2+ (BroadbandNext) network, and we all know what Telstra is like in regards to making profit..

Yeah tell me about it. Honestly i'd be fine with an 8mb/s connection, I've had adsl2 connecting around 17mb/s and my friend had adsl1 connecting around 5mb/s and i could hardly notice the difference in most areas.
