Been having a few problems with this ISP and utorrent. Its only ever happened with this ISP, but when im downloading things through utorrent my computer randomly drops internet – not my router... just my computer.

Just wondering if there are any specific settings i need to have in utorrent.

no.

how long has it been since you were with another ISP?
do you have two at any one time?
When you drop out with westnet, can you connect to another ISP right away and test it?

Also... why would westnet have *anything* to do with your PC?
Westnet 'connects' to your router (well, other way around...) not your PC.
So, if your PC is dropping out and not your router, go fix your PC.

How many torrents do you have going? and whats your router. I had this same problem when using DD-WRT firmware it didn't like torrents.. Apparently routers have built in memory and when you are downloading with torrents the memory gets flooded then it reaches 100% and causes problems with viewing sites and doing other things.

been with westnet for a few months, the issue only started happening when i connected with westnet.

Router is (F5D7633-4Av1 AU) and i usually have a few downloading and a few uploading. The only change between this and my old ISP is i went from 8mbit to 1.5mbit, so i have changed the capped upload and download rate.

Max Upload speed: 12
Max Download speed: 135
Global max connections: 100
Maximum number of connected peers: 50
Number of upload slots per torrent: 3

Those are the only settings changed.

but if you have shown to yourself that your router doesnt drop the connection, only the connection between the PC and router, how is it going to be an issue caused by westnet?

Im not trying to debunk your westnet idea (well, i am..), but it doesnt make any sense.

Have you updated any drivers, patches, installed new software, updated utorrent etc in the time you have been with westnet?

Hi Rabe

I would have to put this down to coincidence personally, because Westnet isn't going to be causing this problem for you. I say this because your post indicates that your router is still connected to the internet. If this is the case, then the connection between yourself and Westnet is still operating as it should be, meaning the problem is a local one.

It's also important to note that this particular issue is not supported by Westnet, so our Technical Support team will unfortunately be unable to assist you with this.

Having said this, as others have asked, how many torrents do you currently have running? I would say that HenDrix is on the right path with their post, so if you have a high number of torrents running, I would suggest stopping all but one for at least 24 hours, and see if this makes any difference.

If it does, then we've found the cause of this issue. If this doesn't make a difference, then my next suggestion would be to stop uTorrent altogether for another 24 hours, and see what happens then.

Which plan are you on, if you're on 1.5mbps or lower change Max Upload 12 to 6 and change Queue to 1 or 2 active download/upload

How's this problem going? I use utorrent occasionally and I've just joined Westnet – I'll let you know how it goes.

I wonder if it drops out because we are using Dynamic ips as default with Westnet – maybe you could consider a static IP?

Would have nothing to do with it mate,

I use dynamic all the time and i have no problems.

Plus torrenting is designed to just update the IP of the peers/seeders anyway

I have been with Westnet for almost a year now and used uTorrent. No problem whatsoever from Westnet, but one thing u need to note is if your machine behave funny and your router is still connected, check the pc. if your torrent dropping out, then you need to check your connection.

Most router comes with logging, check the logs. my 2 c

My bet is your max tcp half-open connection limit of 10 being reached in Windows.

You can check your event log for "EventID 4226: TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts" and patch to increase the limit, or

change utorrent to stop it maxing out – options, preferences, advanced, set net.max_halfopen to 7

I too have had this, it is normally after a few days or so.

i run Vista Home and sometime the world just disapears from the network. After a power cycle of my router (Billion 7401 VGP) it clicks then comes alive again. Normally i also need to restart the pc cause i runs like a dog so if anyone can point me in the right direction with-in the router or settings it would be great.
