I've been with many other ISP's, and i've got to say netspace tops them all,

i don't understand how at their price points they can offer:

  • the allowance (GB's)
  • giganews usenet server
  • a huge gaming community (which is unmetered) with features like a steam content mirror, teamspeak etc,
  • ping times which are better than any other ISP i have been with
  • free ubuntu mirror and many other linux distro's
  • excellent tech support with fast response times

Netspace has given me such a good performance / cost ratio that i have to wonder if they can keep doing it?

does everyone else get as good a connection as i do?

thanks netspace.

Edit: There are a couple of things i could ask for:

  • a bundled net plan at the $59.95 price point (my sweet spot) it jumps from $49.95 to $69.95
  • this is wishful thinking, but it would be nice to have: peak/off peak/PIPE data.

i haven't done any feasibility studies, but encouraging pipe use obviously has benefits however unlimited pipe is abused too much, as a cheapskate :) i like to make use of these kinds of things

thanks again.

TPG is the one you should be worried about.

the allowance (GB's)

By having peak/off peak and for the larger plans a required 24 month contract.

giganews usenet server

Probably because not many people use it.

a huge gaming community (which is unmetered) with features like a steam content mirror, teamspeak etc,

Lots of ISPs do this – to name a few Internode (games.on.net) and iiNet (games.iinet.net.au)

free ubuntu mirror and many other linux distro's

As above – virtually all ISPs offer a mirror of sorts.

if they can keep doing it?

They've been around since 1992 and continued doing it for me for 7 years...

absolutely yes i do

this is wishful thinking, but it would be nice to have: peak/off peak/PIPE data.

i have both – but its not offered anymore to new customers or to existing while changing plans :(

personally i like the peak off peak system it works fine for me

but encouraging pipe use obviously has benefits however unlimited pipe is abused too much,

agreed , several gigs of free traffic ;)

Netspace has given me such a good performance / cost ratio that i have to wonder if they can keep doing it?

Netspace do work by forward thinking fiscal policies based on trends and some innovation. I would also believe they have some scalability to foresee to some extent, customer usage vs cost for delivery factors when they develop new plans , while they do not always get it right for everyone, they do seem to overall have some kind of winning formulæ .. while there are things i don't like equally there are things i do like ... and i still recommend them

welcome to netspace

Heh, sometimes it does seem too good to be true.

One of the great things about the gamespace also is that we can request files, instead of waiting for an Admin or staff member to finally see it. I recently requested a 770mb+ Portal Addon...it was up within a day or 2, i was fair impressed.

Tech support, depends when you call but usually for me the waiting times havent been that long. The great thing i love about netspace tech support is that its based in Australia...iv heard some ISPs have outsourced their tech support call centres...which to me would be horrible!

Id consider netspace a premium ISP, i recommend them to people who want a good server/quota/speed for a reasonable price.

I think the only time they may have gone a bit ahead of themselves was when they had the 1.5mbit Unlimited plans a couple years ago. I was on that plan and i think they couldnt handle it, so they were scrapped. Well...thats what i gathered anyway.

Netspace will be around for a long time yet id say. I wouldnt have any worries :)

I'm new here, please be nice

It's kind of a funny question "How can they offer so much for the price". It's funny because they can easily offer it. And more.. EVERY company ESPECIALLY the larger ones like Bigpond can offer MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH more value for money.... Just speak to anyone overseas about their limits, speeds, and costs per month, and it will almost convince you single handedly to condemn Australia and move to England or America...

The question really is, "why is netspace willing to offer such value when other companies seem to be far behind now?"

My only answer could be, the people at the heart of financial decision making of the company, obviously are LESS money hungry bastards than the competitors.. Some others are simply setting out to monopolize and control the amount of data Australians have access to for the most money they can squeeze out of them..

The Bigpond plans (which i'm currently on by the way) are almost downright robbery in comparison to even the worst plans offered overseas.....

Another question should be "How can all the other companies get away with charging so much for so little".

The answer is simple for that one... Because they can! Because no company is willing to break free and offer something they need to compete with... They can all charge up the ass, similar to banks and there fee's, or petrol prices,,, and consumers can try to pick the "least worst" deal, but they are all the same pretty much.. They can charge up the ass because they can.....

Netspace does not have to offer it's new high download low cost plans.. They will still make a tonne of money offering similar plans to Bigpond.. But they obviously genuinally made a decision to offer value.. To be the first company to really offer value to customers, when they can... Truthfully they COULD offer a lot more (as could all companies), but the fact they offering the current deals that really are much better than the competitors, it's a great step forward.... And this is the sort of movement we need from some of these companies to force the bigger ones like Telstra and Optus to pull there socks up and stop robbing their customers blindly..

*gasp*

okay I can breath now i've gotten that out... Truthfully i'm happy about Netspace and am absolutely changing over... I just wish that all companies will follow suit soon.

it will be interesting to see how companies like telstra and optus go with their inflated prices now that the global economy is in recession and the stock markets are in free fall and with banks unwilling to lend to each other... in time consumers will be unable to afford telstra nor optus inflated prices and the general population tightens their belts due to the fear factor or by an upward trend in unemployment and this can only spark bad news for the likes of such companies which rely on inflated prices to drive its profit margins ....

it will be a significant and interesting observation of both client base levels. profit margins and infrastructure development over the next 12 months .... isp fiscal policy will in no doubt be modified from one of pure profit to survival

That's what happened for sure. Unlimited plans are great in theory – but when you're the only ISP on the block offering them – you're going to get swamped with the people who want more data than the largest caps offered by any other ISP. Bandwidth isn't free – so it ends up being a losing deal for the ISP offering it.

The current deals by Netspace are really good (and hopefully they aren't getting burnt by the collapsing Aussie dollar...) but I'm certain Netspace believe they can sustain profits at the price points, as well as marketshare. They're in this business for the long haul – there are fly-by-nighters in the ISP business, but Netspace isn't one.

Well 80GB@1Mbps is my sweet spot so I guess that would be ~$100/mo through NS.

I currently get 80GB pm through the sixth highest rated ISP in Australia (on Whirlpool); and I'm not worried over their price points seeing as they've delivered increased quota and undergone customer growth for years.

For 96 dollars per month here is my setup
21 to Home budget
65 to Exetel TELK
10 to Unlimited 1Mbps AstraWeb Usenet
96$ per month

I don't a reason to pay $121 a month for such a setup here.

I was a Nestie for several years first as a dial up and then
as a BB client. Mate recommended them.

I have moved onto Virgin and mate has Optus Cable.

Service outages were rare events.

Nestie – Loyal Netspace Fanbios

:) Smile it is a joke – Be happy

All jokes aside Netspace is one of the quiet
achievers of the ISP world, with a solid well
priced product.

If you want something works, nothing spectacular
then Netspace does the job.

It was a sad day for me to leave them.

Yeah, good point... Most ISPs send their tech support off shore these days, eg. IINet, TPG, EFTEL, DODO, optus, and probably others I don't even know about... Good on Netspace for sticking with all Aussie jobs.
