I was thinking of get broadband asdl1
So which isp monitors or doesn't monitor P2P or downloads etc..

Does exetel monitor it?
And how can u limit their monitoring?
And can they see what you are downloading?

Also which files are more easier to download without infringement?

I cant speak for others but Westnet dont it seems

Some torrent programs allow encrpytion settings to hid what your downloading. You can also not use "public "torrents" too, and use more private torrent sites. many of these are invite only.

>>>>And can they see what you are downloading?<<<<

If they looked hard enough they could, BUT generally it aint worth their while.

>>>>>Also which files are more easier to download without infringement?<<<

Those you can download quickly and get out before people realise what your doing are the best. Other than that, one of the problems with this sort of thing is knowing what is legal and what is not. Some are obvious, some not so.

Tyler If you plan on doing some heavy downloading. I would go with Internode. Their Free Premium Usenet is great.

The advantage of Usenet is that it is more private, you don;t have to upload and that It's faster.

does not monitor as in does not restrict the flow? then the list is only so-so with all the budget ISPs off the list.

if you mean check to see what you are getting, then none officially as it would be illegal for them to do that.

If you mean ones that do not pass on the notifications from the people that look for people doing something illegal, then it depends. some pass them on so fast it is automated. some others do not bother (ie: telstra is on this list IIRC).

Does exetel monitor it?

they monitor how much is being used. though officially they do not care what a individual customer is doing.

And how can u limit their monitoring?

don't do it. Download your files from means that is not p2p / can be encrypted (best aproach when dealing with important files like work related ones).

And can they see what you are downloading?

given time anyone can. though a few of the groups that send out letters to get people to stop are aledged to not even need to see what you are getting, they just need to see you are interested in something.

Also which files are more easier to download without infringement?

not illegal ones. ones not done via p2p

more reading for you.

So you guys saying that most of the time they just look at the volume of downloads (ie gbs rather than actual files)..

It's kind of a catch 22 for them cos they advertise large gigs yet people who apply for this amount of gigs would be using it for p2p etc..

Else people would just get a low gig plan for surfing the net etc..

hmm..The reason I want exetel cos it seems cheaper/better deal than tpg.

nothing of the sort. it is not the ISP that send the letters that point out you may be downloading something that is illegal. it is the copy right enforcment people that do this. The only part the ISP has is passing these letters along to the customer (you).

some ISPs take these seriously in that their T&C say that after getting several (or as little as 3) of these letters, they (the ISP) reserve the right to kick you off their service. exetel is one of these ISPs.

that being said, if you at least try not to get these letters, you have less hassels. Currently no one in Australia has been officially (ie: in the papers) about being sued for getting illegal content via p2p, but that is only a matter of time given the trade agreements between us and the USA.

Do remember there are customers who download vast amounts of legal content such as freeware (say Linux ISO images), large video files direct from original media producers (including certain subscription porn sites, if that's their thing), clips on YouTube, etc. which can easily add up to gigabytes in data volume monthly. Your own motivations for getting broadband and envisaged usage patterns do not necessarily apply to others.

What and how specifically do you want to download?
