Just did a search for a thread like this, but the thread was like 4 years ago, so I've decided to create a new one. So, how did you people find this website? Was it through Family/Friends, just found it by accident or was it recommended by someone, or was it another reason?

For me, I had bought a Nokia 6300 and Googled for forums that talked about it. That let me here, to this forum, and now I'm glad of it!

Also, to see your first post that broke your Whirlpool Virginity (hehe), click here

So, how did you Whirlpoolian's find Whirlpool?

I actually found it while browsing NWAT (worked for Telstra, and you can only read Wikipedia and the News so many times) and it was brought up, decided to check it out and never looked back.

I was first made aware of Whirlpool back in 2003/2004 when someone printed out a list of suitable ISPs for me. Didn't end up getting broadband.

Then in 2006, I finally decided to get broadband. My friend led me here and I signed up to ask a few questions. After a while, once I understood more about broadband, I started helping other people who were like me.

Have been on Whirlpool for over 2.5 years. Don't intend on leaving any time soon either.

Back in the good ol' days of 100MB per month (yes, month) download limits on Bigpond, I was looking for a site to download some stuff..... Bigpond to Bigpond was unmetered data and I happened to find Whirlpool which linked Bigpond users with one another and also acted like a bit of a watchdog.

I believe it was hosted on Simon's home computer at the time, I think it was 1999 or 1998.

The existence of the site was threatened when Telstra decided to meter all users usage, even if it was internal to the network. Whirlpool went down for a while..... Then I lost track of it for a little bit and came back after nearly a year when it was up again.

Lurked for a long time then signed up with this account :)

Now I feel old........Get off my lawn!

I think I was looking for a broadband ISP, and came across Whirlpool when iPrimus was still pursuing me for more money for a service they didn't provide. As a result of Whirlpool, I ended up joining Exetel for broadband as they had very good value plans. Since moving back to WA, I'm now with iiNet.

Anouther question would be how long did you just read posts and not post anything yourselves.

Good Idea Rustyballs, I'll answer my question below then :P

To answer my own question, I was reading the forums I think for a couple of weeks before I decided to sign up. I stayed in the Nokia 6300 forums, and most of the questions the people asked about the phone I knew, so I decided to join! I'm still reading the Nokia 6300 General Discussion thread to this day :)

According to that first link my original post was some seven years ago... back in the old (but exciting) days of Telstra cable... if my memory serves me correctly that was the whole reason this site began.

Not sure how I found the site, probably word of mouth. I spent most of my time commenting on the news items before I ventured into the forums.

Amazing to see how far the site has come in seven years since I joined up....

Friends told me about it 2 years ago.

They said it was the biggest in Australia..

I thought it was strange that whirlpool, the company that made my washing machine, would invest in a forum. lol

It had something to do with ISP related issues , I think it might have been the Node ! Offering voice over Data via ISDN2 .

I was looking for a better option that a dedicated PSTN pissy dialup .

But then ADSL came along as a reality not a mythical creature.

I had always used the BC feature of Whirlpool, but decided to join up when something enraged me :)

Intriguing that my first post was trolling.

With the level of sensorship & hypocrisy, it's almost no different to logging onto the internet behind the great firewall of China.

Haha! Ok, I could imagine getting drunk with mates and then for some reason, we all want to go looking for porn, watching stupid youtube videos, etc. But how on earth did you find Whirlpool while drunk?

That's a very good question. :-)

Well, I found WP after searching about problems with my router. At first I actually thought 'Whirlpool' was the appliances company loll.
So after a while I was wondering why so much of their websites were turning up so I clicked on it and now this is the first place I look for any problems I have :)

I honestly can't remember, but probably in an attempt to solve a problem (i.e. found answer to a problem, etc).
It was so long ago (2 years... I feel sorry for you guys who've been here since the start, to some extent, as it may be hard for you to remember how you found WP :P)

I had seen various threads while searching for information on Google and was not fully aware of the layout and scope of the discussions.

After getting a new mobile I was looking for tips and tricks and found all the answers here. Now I'm getting sucked into other areas (VoIP for example!). I've been here for less than three months as a member, but cannot work out how I survived without this site. It's now the first thing I check when I get on the net!

Well I had to post on an IT newsgroup and take screeny for a CertII in IT assessment. So my teacher suggested Whirlpool... I liked it so much I thought I might as well stick around and be an annoying s**t.

Back in the dark old days when work was first on ADSL.
Bogpond outages drove me to finding the forums here through Google as a means of finding out what was going on with the network when ADSL was down and fallback to dialup, which was every second day.
Back then it was pretty much Bigpond or nothing, but it was true unlimited quota way back then.

I must have been around for a few years before ever feeling the need to create an account to post, which was to join in with "me too" whine about constant outages :)
I did get off Bigpond like I swore in that first post, and lived happily ever after since :)

I came to Whirlpool because I love the world of mobile phones and the internet and found it on a Google search about a problem I had. It has proven to be a excellent source of information since.
