I am trying to get presale tickets for the Neil Young sydney show for my old man. Ticketmaster says that they go on sale thursday from 1200 until 2359 (presale) then regular tix on sale friday from 0900hrs.
He is mad keen and I would like to get him the best tix available, so does anyone know how I can get these pre-sale tickets?

I'm not convinced that pre-sale actually gets you better tickets than the normal sale.

I think what it does is guarantee you tickets, so you won't get caught out by the website meltdown that usually accompanies a big concert.

But presale, from my experience, does not necessarily allocate the first few rows or sections. They take them from everywhere.

Anyone with insider knowledge that might be able to confirm or refute this????

It's for fan club members. I spoke to Ticketmaster and they said the promoter issues a presale password through the fanclub. They couldn't tell me which fanclub though. I;m a member of a couple of neil young fanclubs and have got no where on it so far.

I'm in the same boat. I spoke to Ticketmaster and got the same response.

"Ticketmaster do not have information as to the exact details of which
fan club members are eligible for this offer as it is organized directly
through the promoters of the event. We have simply been advised to allow
the pre-sale of tickets to eligible patrons who have received the
relevant codeword for the offer."

I'm also a Ticketmaster member and a member of a Neil Young fan club. I've heard nothing from the fan club about pre sale codes.

What fan clubs are you a member of?

I can say from my experiance that the presale tickets I've purchased in the passed have been, for the most part, excellent seats.

BT.

You may notice that the presale info for the Sydney show has now been removed from the ticketmaster site (as of the time of this post).

Neilyoung.com has a fan presale ticketing section but looks to be only for the US & Canada. The tickets are bought through musictoday which is an American company and has nothing to do with ticketmaster Australia.

Looks like we'll all be fighting it out on Friday morning for tickets!
Good luck chaps!!!

If I don't get tickets I am going to cry like a baby.

At least my 9 week old gets some competiton.

I've been on steady diet of Time Fades Away, On The Beach and Rust Never Sleeps this week in preparation.

Anybody know how much Uncle Neil is asking????

I have a friend who will go, but only at a certain price. It would be nice to know in advance of the ticketmaster website opening.

Just got the email from Ticketmaster – I'm a member of them not Neil Young's fanclub.

Not sure if you need to register or whatever but the pre-sale password is CINNAMON

Enjoy!

How do you access the presale to use this password ?

Bummer. I couldn't access the presale without the right ticketmaster account.

Which is weird, cos I have a ticketmaster account, though I opted out of spammy emails. Wonder if this makes a dif.

Oh well, will try the public sale tommorrow.

PS The reason why I'm not sure that presale gets you 'better' tickets is that I missed out on the Steve Earle Enmore theater presale due to a mix up, went to buy tickets during the public sale, and scored front row.

w000ttt! thank you for the pw dude – just got my silver tix (couldnt select gold ones) and I am stoked – I will try for gold tix tomorrow and if I fail at least I know I can send the old man for certain. If I score two more I guess me and the missus may attend.
uber pleased. also noted that the fan club I joined obviously wasnt the right one, since I didnt get any insider info (luckily there is the wp 4rums)

Same with me – spoke to a guy on the phone who said they sold out of blocks of four quickly or something, but i got four in a row silver and he reckoned the spot wasn't bad

Either way I'm pleased, Mr Young, here I come!

Not for the first time in these forums I will say that scalpers suck. It's a ****fight on the most part to get tickets when bands come over and these bastards aren't helping.

My mate at work was saying that maybe he should start buying ten tickets for any gigs, I told him the main drawback with his plan is that we can't get hold of them in the first place.

if you cant beat em...

i like the way that for that festival (name escapes me) at byron they print the name of the ticket holder on the ticket and thats who has to use it. bound to have problems but at least you will cut down on the number of casual scalpers.

of course if big acts like NY stopped off for longer than a day in sydney...

I was lucky to get a 5th row ticket in the presale, but it was a fight... The ticketmaster site was having some issues but I hung in there and got lucky.

I saw that they limited the number of tickets you could buy to a maximum of 4 so that would've limited what the scalpers could get their hands on.
But it would be a great idea to print your name on the actual ticket and not just on the receipt which is attached to the ticket and can be torn off.

Nope – I actually managed to buy better seats in the stalls (row P, in the centre) this morning than the ones I was offered (row M, but right off to one side) in the presale yesterday but turned down.

Mind you, I logged on at 9.00:01 to get these tickets...

Well I was also there right on 9...was refreshing the page until it came up. I tried for 2 tickets at $150 and just got "We couldn't find tickets that matched your request."

Hmmmm... when you say 'right on 9', how often did you refresh (in the minutes leading up to 9am, I actually synced my watch to an internet clock and refreshed when it showed 8.59:03 by the watch, which was exactly 9.00:01 on my computer).

Also, did you specifically try for stalls or did you just try 'best available'. I did the latter and got what I did...

I was at the page from 8.50 onwards, refreshing (constantly, as soon as it had loaded from the last time) until it had come up.

I went back straight away and tried stalls specifically after.

I don't want to sound like a sore loser, but this is total fuken bullshit. I did everything I should have done if I wanted to score tickets and I've got nothing.

:(

I managed to get on at about 9:06 and was offered silver tickets only. Quite far back. Probably would have fared better if I had managed to get to a computer a bit earlier, but still lucky to be in the room with Neil.

Didn't get to see Gold either in the presale or today.

I much prefer the ticketek site than tickemaster. Ticketek allows you to choose 4 alotments and pick from them. After all, the software's opinion of 'best available' may be the physically closest seats, but from a terrible angle/right in front of the PA etc etc. Ticketmaster doesn't give you that much choice.

The trouble with having names on the tickets is if you buy them on behalf of friends, and they legitimately back out and you want another friend to come in their place.

My tickets are pretty average seats, but I'm there which is the main thing. Sounds like some of you did way better than me, some worse so I'm ok.

lj452tse you dont sound like a sore loser- i would have been mighty peeved if i couldnt get a decent seat after trying everything. If youre up to it (standing through the set), may i suggest you try for tix to the big day out? I expect that it could be an interesting show. crowd should be a good mix of young and old (im verging on the old side myself)
