Thinking of churning to Internode from TPG because of the slow browsing and having to change proxies all the time. ATM I am on 1500/256 for 50GB @ $70/mth. Internode is 40GB @ 70/mth same speed. Is it really any better? Do they run behind a proxy? Can you get a static IP? It says uploads are free, is it for all uploads inc p2p, bittorrent etc? Online gaming, how does it work and is the bandwidth really NOT counted? and do you have to buy the game or are there some that are just played online without installing the game ie son plays runescape but it takes up a lot of bandwidth. Help desk, is it in Australia or overseas and how bad are they? |

Haha youll really feel what the internet should feel like after that change... :P No transparent proxies on Internode that ive ever come across, Static IPs available on SOHO plans and upwards, and yes the network is FAR FAR better :) And yes, if they say uploads arent counted, their not counted regardless of traffic type at this point. The unmetered IP ranges they provide dont count at all towards quota either (as long as their in the provided list/s), im quite sure (not a gamer though) that youd have to buy the games or do some kinda fancy Steam business though... Helpdesk is Adelaide based I believe, if not its at least AU based somewhere... :) |

Is it really any better? Yes! Do they run behind a proxy? No. Only budget ISPs do this. Can you get a static IP? Yes. It says uploads are free, is it for all uploads inc p2p, bittorrent etc? All uploads are free. Online gaming, how does it work and is the bandwidth really NOT counted? If you are playing on Games.on.net (internode gaming network) then it doesn't count towards your monthly quota Help desk, is it in Australia or overseas and how bad are they? Adelaide, I believe they are based. |

None that ive ever been able to find :) If their DSLAM in AARE (Acacia Ridge) was Active I wouldnt be on iiNet put it that way... :) Overall my first preference of an ISP network wise. Ive always loved the feel of their QoS, especially when your maxing your connection on torrents and SSH still feels full speed... :) Billing, customer service, reliability, have about as good as they would ever get in my experiences... About the only issues ive ever had with Internode was like new DSL2 connections not being patched properly in the exchange which is typical Telstra anyways being anticompetitive IMO :P so I wouldnt blame Internode for anything like that... |

TPG are the lowest form of isp. I was with tpg for 3 days then paid the cash to get out and came straight back to node. Free premium usenet is a massive plus for me. No more torrents. |

Is it really any better? general consensus is YES. Can you get a static IP? no. it's dynamic but it tends to stick with your account for weeks. It says uploads are free, is it for all uploads inc p2p, bittorrent etc? yes. Online gaming, how does it work and is the bandwidth really NOT counted? if you play on an Internode server, it is not counted. you can also play on it when you're shaped/capped (same thing) and it won't be slow. and do you have to buy the game yes. son plays runescape but it takes up a lot of bandwidth Runescape is a free game so you don't have to buy it. Help desk, is it in Australia or overseas and how bad are they? they're pretty good. based in Australia. |

Is it really any better? Yes. Just look in the forums to figure that one out! Also http://www.whirlpool.net.au/survey/2007/ The stats don't lie. Do they run behind a proxy? Hell no. Can you get a static IP? On SOHO plans. It says uploads are free, is it for all uploads inc p2p, bittorrent etc? Yes. Uploads are not counted towards usage. Online gaming, how does it work and is the bandwidth really NOT counted? and do you have to buy the game or are there some that are just played online without installing the game ie son plays runescape but it takes up a lot of bandwidth. You obviously buy the games you want to play and then use the Node servers to battle against the other players. All Node gaming servers are unmetered and not counted towards usage. As far as I know Node does not run a Runescape server. I'm pretty sure it's a similar situation to WoW where the game developers control the distribution. Help desk, is it in Australia or overseas and how bad are they? Australia! You speak to Australians. They're not bad. They're incredibly good. |

Thx everyone for your fast replies, sounds like a no-brainer decision atm, as it all sounds very promising. Wont be able to change for a while though as we are in the process of selling our house and churning now will give us a 12 month contract even though they say its not a contract, you still need to pay to get out of it. So I think the best thing to do is wait until we move, cancel TPG and sign up for a new contract with Internode. |

now: I just finished an email to internode about this. If I dont have to pay the $65 if I'm relocating then I will sign up now. 1 more Q, I need to give TPG 30 day notice to cancel, is this the case of a churn or will it be straight away? And how long will the churn take and how long will I be out of internet? |

1 more Q, I need to give TPG 30 day notice to cancel, is this the case of a churn or will it be straight away do it around one week before your new month starts. And how long will the churn take and how long will I be out of internet? 3-5 days. you won't be out of the internet as it's a continual process eg. old isp -> disconnect -> reconnect to new isp also, http://www.warcom.com.au/sho |

Wont be able to change for a while though as we are in the process of selling our house and churning now will give us a 12 month contract even though they say its not a contract, Of course its a contract – a contract being a legal agreement about how the services are bought and sold – but its a contract with a minimum term of only one month. If the minimum term was 12 months the you'd have to pay a minimum of 12 x the monthly fee if you left early. And you don't have to. You (like many people, it seems), are using 'contract' as shorthand for 'minimum term' – and they are not the same thing :) There is an exit fee of $65 within 12 months (relocations are not an exit in this context – they don't incur that fee). And (again) that doesn't make it a 12 month minimum term contract. It just means that process of disconnection becomes a lower cost prospect after the 12 month point. Regards, |

Thx everyone for your fast replies, sounds like a no-brainer decision atm, as it all sounds very promising. If you are going to Internode make sure you are on an Agile dslam, if it is their ADSL2+ via Optus you are better just sitting with TPG. I have emailed Internode a couple of times now and they fail to respond each time. Funny considering we have 18 connections now (work covers all staff's home internet connections) we would be more then happy to move over to their own infrastructure, not Optus infrastructure. I guess they just don't need the money any more. Regards, .Joel |

Thx Simon just double checking as on this page http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/b it says "12 months contract" but also says "No Contract commitment, a $65 early termination fee applies if service is cancelled within 12 months" Good to know that I wont have to pay $65 plus $99 relocate fee if i move within the 12 months because of this I have already given TPG the 30 days notice of cancelling. Now should I sign up for the churn to Internode now or wait until the 30 days is closer. If I DO sign up now, will Internode automatically churn me in 1 month or will it be done earlier. |

If I DO sign up now, will Internode automatically churn me in 1 month or will it be done earlier. It would normally be done after the churn has been put through unless you ask them to do otherwise. Why don't you call 136633 and speak with accounts they can answer all your questions in less than 3 mins. |

I have emailed Internode a couple of times now and they fail to respond each time. Bullshit show us some ticket numbers. Funny considering we have 18 connections now (work covers all staff's home internet connections) we would be more then happy to move over to their own infrastructure, not Optus infrastructure. How is it funny? I guess they just don't need the money any more. I guess that your just a troll. You are quoting significantly more words than you have written. |

If I DO sign up now, will Internode automatically churn me in 1 month or will it be done earlier. Churns can take around 5 business days so don't leave it til the last minute. I would do it at least 7 – 10 business days before your month is up to avoid a disconnection if something in the churn process goes wrong. |

I would do it at least 7 – 10 business days before your month is up Thx Carl Just spoke to the help desk (it's great to be able to understand them), and they suggested the same thing. They said if I do it now, they will churn me straight away and I will still have to pay TPG for the next month anyway (although it's very tempting to get better browsing earlier) so I'll leave it to closer to the time of cancellation. |

I just applied for Naked ADSL2+ with Internode this morning. I haven't been this excited about my intarwebs since I ditched dialup :D Oh wow. Internode's ears must have been burning while I typed this, haha. |

I recently changed from TPG ADSL2+ to 'node Naked 2+, and couldn't be happier. Also interesting that browsing forums on the "interim" 56k dial-up seemed a lot quicker than doing it through TPG synched at 23000 kbps... |
