Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to have a custom profile in the Adam members section? I've seen talk of it in other threads and thought it may solve my problem. Here's the situation:

Recommended Profile, I sync at 6,200kbps with an SNR of between 4.5 and 6. This is not overly stable with a few drop outs per day. I contacted Adam and they put me on the Resillient profile. Now I sync at about half the original speed (3,200kbps) but SNR has increased to 15-18.

It seems like a profile with an SNR value between these two profiles might give a good mix of speed and stability. Any thoughts? Is there a modem setting that can adjust this instead (Billion 7401VGPM).

Thanks for any advice!! :)

Call Adam and ask for one, they can only be enabled by Adam staff.

Yeah, custom profiles can only be enabled by Adam staff (from experience you have to have a half-decent reason for them to put one on for you though so be prepared to work through it with them).

Have you tried changing your "Coding Gain" within your Billion modem settings? It ranges from Auto(default) then 0(lowest) to 7(highest). 7 will get you the best speed but can also cause more drop-outs. Experiment with that as well if you haven't already. As an example, I used to be able to set to 7 but then got constant drop-outs with it, had to settle with 3 or 4.

Thanks for the response guys. I'll have a play around with the coding gain and see if I can sort something out.

It's probably not a good enough reason for Adam to build a custom profile if I can sync alright on Resilient (albeit at a slower speed).

Appreciate the reply!

Yeah like Tex said, lowering your coding gain can really work wonders for a noisy line.

I was having real troubles keeping sync, I was up to about 10 syncs/day which was quite annoying.

At this point the coding gain was set to "Auto".

I progressively dropped the coding gain down and am now sitting at "2" on my Billion 7402G. I still sync around 14mbit a drop of only 1mbit from "Auto" and only re-sync about once every 2 days on average.

IMO: Stability > Speed

:)
