I just requested a plan change from Adam Home 1500/256 to 8000/384, since I wanted an increase in quota to 60GB. The plan changer tells me it may take up to 3 business days to take effect. I didn't realise it would be that long.

I was unshaped OK straight away but still sync at 1536. Does this change require action from Telstra to re-program the DSLAM at the exchange?

Since my billing date has changed to today, does this mean that I could have to put up with the 1500 speed for a few more days, so that I would not have a full month at the higher speed even though paying for it?

You agreed to the three business day speed change time when you agreed to the plan change, so you pretty much knew you'd be on 1500k for three more days, same thing with me when I went from 1.5mbit up to 8.

Just think though, you'll more than be able to make up for lost time when the speed change is done. :)

It's done in software remotely (by Telstra) but they (Telstra) still take several business days to do the work once it's requested.

Yes, but if I had known earlier, I would have submitted the plan change a few days earlier. By the time I got told about the delay, I had no choice but to wait.

edit: Do I have to resync the modem to the new speed by switching it off and on, or will it sync to the new speed "on the fly"?

Will definitely require a modem restart (when Telstra change you over that may trigger a disconnect/reconnect anyway but if it doesn't, then a manual reboot of your modem will be required).

Thanks, Tex. I had a situation yesterday where I lost the "Internet" LED on the router (i.e. lost connection to Adam). As this doesn't happen often, I thought Telstra may have made the change, although I don't think I lost sync. Anyway, false alarm, still synching at 1536/256 today after power off overnight. I guess they won't do it over the weekend, either.

Well, the three business days are up and I'm still only synching at 1536/256. Also I can only get connection to Adam using PPPoA. PPPoE won't connect for some reason.

Is there anything I need to change in the router setup for this speed change?

I'd give the helpdesk a quick call (you should get straight through now) and just ask if you've been changed over to the 8000k plan yet.

Just called the help desk and it turns out someone forgot to submit the request to Telstra apparently, so they will do that now, so looks like a few more days to wait. Anyway they adjusted my billing date by seven days to compensate.

Turns out I didn't have to wait long after all, once things got moving. Synched this morning at 6784/384 with downstream line attentuation of 47dB. I was only expecting around 6000 based on previous attenuation figures, so I'm happy now.
