All of a sudden my internet has stopped working. I've done a cold boot of the modem. It's syncing at 8mb like it's normally does and the SNR and Line Attenuation are both around where they are normally. But it stops at "Attempting to Connect...".

I haven't made any changes to the modem for the last few weeks, and this is my first downtime with node after about 1 month of new service.

I'm going to call node when I get home, but just wanted to know if there anything I can do at my end?

Try leaving the modem turned off for 15 minutes or more. It may have attempted to many log on's to the T$ port.

Can another person turn the device off? Telstra will prevent authentication occurring (sometimes referred to as a "port lock") if there is a flood of authentication requests. Typically that will reset automatically after ~15 minutes of zero activity.

If you can get another person to power off the router for ~20 minutes you should find it springs back to life once powered on again. If pain persists, call the ISP.

I have been down since Friday 29/8/08. This is the third time my ADSL has dropped out in the past 2 months. I have been with Internode ADSL 1500 for the past 2 years without a hiccup. The first 2 drop outs have lasted a day or so then unexpectedly back online with no explanation. These occurances did not qualify to be escalated to Telstra's investigation.

However my current dropout has been the longest so far and I am still waiting on Telstra to sort out the issue. I have been in daily contact with Internode only to be told they have not received any further information other than "they're [Telstra]working on it".

I've had to resort to dialup in the meantime as I have to work remotely and on Wednesday 3/8/08 I had no dial tone whatsoever. I rang Telstra and they acknowledge there was a problem with the Aspley exchange. To my knowledge I am on a RIM. So no broadband and no dialup – could it get any worse!!!

Eventually the dial tone returned but alas no broadband. I'd hoped that the latter incident was related to fixing my broadband but no.

I am now contemplating on what to do next as I am paying for a service that has not worked way passed the time allowed for being offline. Any suggestions????

As I see it you have three options, but only the third one of them will fix the problem.

1) Churn to another ISP

2) Do nothing

3) Keep talking to Internode, escalate it if things are dragging out, or drop a line to

Yep, but must of missed your reply. I've contacted Internode and they have passed the details onto Telstra, was really impressed with there support call wait times, hardly waited a minute.

just off the phone to internode support myself. Apparently telstra has an authentication issue for anyone that has recently had a service order (ie speed change) this is my first month on 8mb. dial up is killing me, it's almost 24 hours since it went out hope telstra get it sorted soon!

Just had a speed change to 8mb as well, about 10 days ago. I'm lucky enough to have a 1GB NextG backup connection, but it's a dramatic change from 40GB ADSL8000 lol

Here is the network status advisory on this issue for anyone interested: https://secure.internode.on.net/webtools/advisories/item.html?id=5659

Edit: It's just been updated to Medium Severity.

Rang Internode up a few hours ago. No ETA as of yet. They are just waiting on Telstra. Don't like my chances of getting this back before the weekend though.

I've been suffering this too.

Recently upped to the 8Mb plan... in regional SA.

Logged a call with 'node, and I've been added to the list of affected customers.

^%#&% TELSTRA!!

I'm currently suffering the same "Attempting to Connect" problem via Exetel just a few days after upping my line speed from 1500 to 8000. The ETR given by "the supplier" is (by) Monday 7pm... Hmm, a weekend without the net, can I survive!?

Would I be correct in assuming that all the people affected by this will be offline till at least monday?

Its hard to know. That's just what my ISP was told by TW. It's probably just an arbitrary deadline for TW to look at it and maybe fix it. Who knows if they'll work on it over the weekend. The problem may just come good in the mean time.

I'd be happy if my speed change was rolled back to 1500 until it's fixed properly.

Just relocated my node ADSL to my new place earlier in the week & got hit with this about 6pm last night.

Luckily I planned for the outage while the ADSL was being provisioned (home/office) by upgrading to a Draytek 2800VG & buying outright a Three Mobile 3G USB modem & getting a 6Gb data pack for $49/month. I've still got plenty of data left and the misses now understands what redundancy is :)

BTW – I'm quite impressed with the Draytek. It dials the 3G as soon as the ADSL drops. And if the ADSL comes back, it drops the 3G.

i'm conceeding it won't be fixed this weekend now. I spoke to Internode support earlier and they said no updates. i'm approaching 72 hours (went out around 11 wendesday night) and it's driving me crazy, wonder if telstra will be offering compensation for this!! 8mb plans don't come cheap.

Add another to the list. I have exactly the same problem. An ADSL I look after has recently been switched up to 8Mbit, it has extremely good noise figures, syncs at 8Mbit, but it cant' connect. The router (dlink) says it gets no reply. The lights are on, but no one is home. At least I know its not just me.

My connection keeps going down then coming back up – websurfing has also been unreliable and very slow.. My first problem with Internode... Has internode been having trouble with Telstra? I'm in Charlestown near Newcastle.

YIPEEEEE!

Left my modem off for 30 mins, turned it back on, and Viola!

Was going nuts on the inlaws 256K connection. What literally takes 1 hour over there to download now takes me 2 minutes. Happy now...

I have submitted a request to reduce my speed from 8000 back to 1500 (rollover 24th) and the speed change has been done this morning. I have line sync at 1500, but yet again no authentication. Is anyone else having authentication issues???

A friend of mine upgraded from 1500 to 8k end of August & has had the same problem. Very similar stats to mine but he's on a rural line & further from exchange. He had rock-solid performance for several years but the last 3 weeks have been atrocious. Some days are good but others he's lucky to stay connected for 5 mins.
Still using the original 7400 Billion atm so we're considering swapping for a 7404VGP-M in case the 7400 is dying but this is the 2nd thread I've found with similar problems.

Mine has started playing up over the past week, drop-outs were an unknown occurrence here until then.
It first dropped out middle of last week at around 1am for about 20 minutes, and it just did it again for around the same time period. Turned off modem, waited 5 minutes then turned it back on again and after struggling a bit it has reconnected...

I'm on the Sunshine Coast, anyone else in QLD having probs?

got a ticket with node now, have to send it to telstra for investigation, with my first outage earlier in the month i lost 3 ½ days, now with this it's already another 1 and i'm told it will be a couple of days before telstra get back to node. Don't think i'll be changing speed again anytime soon!!!!
