I am on the Netspace 1500 plan and am currently experiencing agonisingly slow internet access when browsing the web.
If I am browsing an Aus web site the speed seems to be ok, however when I look overseas I feel like I am back on dial up.

I ran a few speed tests at www.speedtest.net with the following results:

Melbourne: down 1279kb/s, up 211kb/s, 37ms ping
Washington DC: down 38kb/s, up 205kb/s, 338ms ping
London:down 39kb/s, up 200kb/s, 730ms png

So I am wondering if anyone else is having these issue? Is this a problem with Netspace or their upstream providers? And if neither of these, any ideas what my problem could be? I thought at first I had been incorrectly shaped but with this only affecting web browsing and only overseas sites I am not sure what the problem is.

I was having poor performance even for local web site. Restarted the modem and it fixed the problem, whatever it was.

Seems to have righted itself overnight.

Thanks.

I downloaded some software updates early this morning, in off peak time. They took forever. It felt like dial up speed. In the past I have had no trouble, all done and installed in quicktime. But last night it was agonisingly slow. A speed test this morning shows a great variation in speed depending on where one tests to. I can get advertised speeds if test within Oz, but overseas more than halves the speed. I recorded my times so I can compare next time I have trouble.

My off-peak amounts for the last three nights have been unusually low (around half the usual amount) so you're not the only one experiencing this.

Geelong area – Moolap Exchange, Windsor Access Concentrator 512/128k connection ADSL1 No issues here on slowness, off peak downloaded at full throttle 1.47 gig between midnite and 7 am

currently all websites and downloads and normal speed for me (all are overseas except for whirlpool ..

sounds like a localised issue you may like to try an isolation test as it was not indicated on your initial post

also reboot modem

check for virii and spyware and after that its advised to call netspace tech support for further instructions and pass on to them tracert and pings while discussing the situation with tech support the more info you provide will enable them to hopefully solve the issue

[edit] nevermind the OP has had the issue resolved .. i am bad

good luck

yep same here, news desk sez "Planned Network Maintenance – 05/09/08" but that was last night, perhaps Netspace are a bit retarded and gots the date wrong.

or maybe the upstream ministeriümplätz has further issues

also looking at my connection, full speed is noted on the moolap exchange via the windsor access concentrator, no webslowdownsnoted on local() and overseas websites
