im just wondering if anyone has any problems with there speed and connections with playing games with optus cable. I am thinking of changing to optus because my phone and mobile is with them and i might get a cheaper deal. I am currently with TPG and i play World of Warcraft. When it comes to 7pm when i raid with my friends. I cannot play at all because i get disconnected constantly and lag so much i cant play. When i was with ADSL 1 i never had these issues, only when i changed to adsl 2. I also scared if i change to optus ADSL 2 i might just get the same problems as before

I rarely host games on cod4 anymore the simple fact is with uploads being counted you really tear through your usage quite fast.

Do all the new plans count uploads? I'm on an old plan and uploads aren't counted.

I too, just switched to TPG ADSL2, and i'm getting disgusting pings on WoW (around 500-700) consistently.

Are there any other WoW gamers using Optus Cable? and if so, could you let me know or post your average pings?

any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

In the past, you couldn't beat Optus for low latency gaming, however recently, I'm not so convinced given all the problems they've been having lately (especially drop-outs during gaming). I'm still using Optus (grandfathered plan) but as soon as I can get access to ADSL2, I'm gone unless things dramatically improve.

I play WoW a lot over Optus Cable, and get between 240 and 340ms pings. It's normally pretty constant around the 280 mark.

That's a big NO! Archived optus plans do not count uploads. Alot of customers are still on these plans.

Buddy read the question he asked if all the NEW plans count uploads, You are referring to old grandfathered plans which you can no longer get, Only customers currently on them can have them.

Not only customers who are currently on them can have them. All depends on your situation and who you speak to.

Sorry but your response is a little vague, Do you mean a new customer could sign up for optus cable and get put on let's say the old power plan 20GB+40GB?.

New customers would have to sign up with a current plan and then try and discuss possibilities of going onto archived plan.

If an existing customer with optus was looking to go elsewhere because of the fact the quota they currently have is insufficient and this clearly be seen when a rep looks at their online usage, in quite a few cases they may be changed to an archived plan. As i said though it all depends on who you speak to. Lets say for instance that you spoke to Cable customer service they would flat out say no. But there are other departments that have authority to put customers on the old archived.

Thanks that's good info to know, I myself go over my quota every month and knowing now that there is a possibility to change to an older plan i may give optus a call and discuss the situation with them.
It's well worth a shot, For now i will wait and see how the new upcoming plans pan out.

I have to second all of this. I get the lowest ping in Game Arena, but suffer from random drop outs in the past six months.

If I wasn't on such a cheap grandfathered plan I'd be on The 'Node.

Not sure if it will help you mate but I play WoW as well on Frostmourne US PVP and have optus cable 512mb ... for the past couple night's it's been unplayable .. apx at about 5k ms with the lowest being 3k ms.
Other than that though when the problem is fixed with optus it should be fine again. I normally raid from about 8pm sydney time – 1am next morning syd time and it runs fairly smooth with ventrilo in the back ... apx 345ms. Also have some mods uploading loot data to guild website and all is usually good. =( just frustrating right now ... missed 2 raids due to the high latency recently.

I'm with the Fusion $99 and I have nothing but troubles with certain games/apps. Either drop out or just disconnect... or not even connect at all. Server lists don't load properly or completely. It's so frustrating. I can't wait to find a better plan at a different company. Biggest mistake going back to optus.
