Hi guys....

My internet just reconnected after like a 2 hour drop out.

I have 8mbit and my internet was connected at like 7800kbit before the drop out and now its connected at 3080kbit :'(....

I have restarted my modem many times and its not changing any thing.

I am like 800m away from my exchange.

friends of mine who are through Exetel are also having the same issues. I get drop outs of around an hour or so just about every day. I brought a new modem to see if that would help but made no difference. I have been having these issues since exetel stopped offereing ADSL to Tasmanian customers.

I have been using my phone as an access point during drop outs but it costs me shite loads for traffic :(

Hi Finnsk,

I wonder if Exetel's drop outs have anything to do with the planned upgrade to their services, since they haven't been able to connect any new customer for a couple of months:

"FROM July 1 2008 UNTIL APPROXIMATELY SEPTEMBER 10 2008 EXETEL WILL BE UNABLE TO OFFER NEW ADSL SERVICES TO CUSTOMERS IN TASMANIA. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF ACTIVATING NEW FACILITIES WHICH WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL MID SEPTEMBER 2008." (from the Exetel website)

I'm interested in signing up but am keen to know if you've been happy with Exetel overall?

thanks

Time to churn again? All because of that? I think you should head over to the NetSpace forum and take a look at what their Tassie customers have had to put up with over the week. My connection has been pretty much perfect as of late.

Dropouts are caused by issues on the line... usually between your premises and the exchange. (or RIM)

My guess is that Telstra is experiencing bandwidth difficulties on some Tasmanian exchanges.

That would also explain why you can't connect at a greater speed than 3mb.

It's common knowledge on the mainland that Telstra is limiting many 8mb and higher connections from all ISPs to 3mb due to deficiencies in Telstra's network provisioning.

You might just have to twiddle your thumbs until they upgrade the pipes to your local exchange.
