Hey guys, I've been having a couple of issues with my AdamTalk connection recently, I was hoping someone here could help me out. If not I'll give the helpdesk a buzz and see if they can offer any advice.

Firstly I seem to have lost caller ID. My phone (a Telstra branded phone) would always show the incoming caller ID, then one day it just stopped. I'm fairly sure I didn't change any settings anywhere, but now instead of showing the number it just displays "external call". Does anyone have any ideas why this might happen?

The other issue I have been having recently is sometimes when I call a landline I get an engaged tone, but the phone rings on the other end. Then when they answer the line is dead. The call doesn't show up in my log in my Adam Account page, so I don't get charged for it. But it really frustrates my parents when I call them because I keep getting an engaged tone, so I keep trying every 10 minutes or so, but their phone is ringing and dead when they answer. I usually call their mobile and then they call into my line to get hold of them. I haven't yet worked out what alleviates this issue – sometimes its there and sometimes its not.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,
Sean

What modem and adapter are you using? And please don't say the Linksys PAP2 ;)

Assuming his profile is correct I would guess Billion 7404VGP-M

What firmware are you running? It is worth upgrading to the current firmware.

Have you also signed up with another VSP? And if so are they giving the same fault?
I find MNF works OK. Pennytel seams to have no ring tone on some calls.

Sean could also try emailing Adam helpdesk, maybe that Billion is part of their supported product lists.

I have also been having a few problmes with Adam Talk. Its mainly variable volume at both ends. This has become worse recently. We have a NetComm V100 adapter. It seems like there are a few issues generally with the service. It is also frustrating to have to re-configure everytime there is a power outage. It's sometimes easier to use the old POTs phone.

At work we are going to provide fibre to the home in approx 100 homes in Campbelltown offering Adam Talk as the only phone service. These reliability issues will need to be fixed or people will loose confidence in the technology. All homes will have UPS uninterupted power supply but I believe there may still be occassions when re-configuring is required. Does any one know if Voip services can be set up to reconfigure automatically?

Sorry to answer with another problem.

Andrew

Im confused. Why dont you save the settings in the ATA instead of just applying them. Save to flash etc?

The instructions dont appear to provide an option for saving to the ATA. > see this > http://www.adam.com.au/adamtalk/support/Netcommv100/

Hm, you have a valid point there.

This guide demonstrates a save button.

I think it would be ridiculous to release an ATA that doesnt have a function to keep the settings in it during a power outage... so i'm sure theres a way to keep the settings alive...

Suggests
Tool tab --> System tab --> Save

Unfortunately I don't have this ATA so I can't confirm it.

Do a search in /forum-threads.cfm?f=107 or pose the question there. The VoIP forum has a wealth of experience in these problems.

That has worked. I just saved the settings from Tools> save.
Thanks.

There are a number of ATAs that can be set up for remote configuration; the Linksys 3102 springs immediately to mind, but there are others. On powering up, or on a reset, or at a pre-determined interval, it will download its configuration file automatically from the VSP's server (or any other nominated URL).
If the administrators need to change any configuration settings, they modify the file on their server and it will download to the ATA automatically.

A friend just got Adam's NDSL and was using AdamTalk to call me to test it out. We were chatting away and got cut off. He calls me again and I pick up but got dead air. However, he managed to get connected to the Adam Helpdesk line. Weird.
