Ok, if you've just purchased (or are thinking about purchasing) Windows Home Server AND you have at least 1 x 64 bit client machine then read on... if not, I spose you can stop reading!
I've just spent the better part of this day trying to get my Vista 64 bit client PC to connect to the WHS for the purposes of automated back-ups etc. I was able to see and write to shared folders on the server but the connector software was not installing properly.
To cut a long and boring story short, follow these steps to get your 64 bit client PC up and running with the correct connector software:
1) Ensure WHS has power pack 1 installed – this will install via automatic updates but can be downloaded separately if you wish.
2) Ensure you can at least see shared folders on the WHS machine from the 64bit client PC. You will (most likely) need to be on the same subnet mask as the WHS.
3) On the 64 bit machine, open your web browser and goto: \\SERVER\Software\Home Server Connector Software (where SERVER is the name of your server)
4) Click the "setup" file. Download it and run it.
5) Be happy :)
