Can anyone tell my what speeds I should expect to get in the speedtest.bin, I've been on ADSL2+ for the last few days & have been getting several dropouts a day & seemingly less than remarkable speed in comparison to ADSL.
With ADSL it used to settle quickly at 160KB/sec but when I run it now it bounces back & forth anywhere between 117 & 258 without settling down, I rang AAPT & asked them if that was okay & I was told that as long as it's showing at least 119 it's fine & the subject of my dropouts was pretty well ignored.

Phew! Swamped with replies, I hate it when that happens.
My computer didn't have ethernet, I installed it this afternoon & now problem fixed, thank you.

Were you using USB or something before?

Yeah I was using USB as there was no ethernet card before, I didn't realise what a difference it makes, or that it might have been the reason for my problems, USB seemed to work fine on ADSL but not so with the ADSL2+.

The phone socket in my flat is at the opposite end to the power points & therefore the computer & I had a 10m cable from the socket which never seemed to be a problem with ADSL but was seemingly wreaking havoc with ADSL2.
Yesterday I moved the computer as close as I could & swapped to a 5m cable & haven't had a dropout since & my testbin speeds have increased from between 117 & 258KB/sec to around 690, a big difference.

Edit: I've been advised to try other filters than the ones that aapt supplied for ADSL as they might not be fully ADSL2 compatible but I'm a bit reluctant to lash out for something that may or may not help.

Try use a cable under 3 meters. There might be even more of an improvement.

I wouldnt bother with a new filter.

Thanks Super Rad, whoever put in the phone socket put it as far as possible from the lone lounge room double power point or any logical placement of furniture or appliances.

Sadly not everyone considers where things should go, perhaps the cable guy was not able to place the telephone socket anywhere else??
