Its actually not bad considering you only pay $19.99 for $300 worth of calls and compared to other mobile companies caps its actually quite good. Optus i THINK (correct me if im wrong) is $19.95 and receive $50 worth of calls. I mean...those rates as mentioned above me are pretty similar if not the same as optus and you also get $250 more to call/use.

Think about Exetel's mobile plan. Why more flexible arrangement is not available?

with optus or voda, you pay $49/month and get a phone for free.

instead, with tpg, you pay $19/month and have to bring your own phone or pay $360 for 6110 navigator.

The only advantage i can see is.. TPG mobile's contract term is 12 months while those giving free phones are 24 months.

I have a question that hopefully a TPG rep can answer.

If i use my existing Optus mobile number and sign up with TPG mobile using my Optus SIM will my mobile number be off the air whilst the TPG plan/service/contract is set up ?

I am interested in the mobile plan but just want to know if there will be any interruption to my phone service during the process.

Seems like good value almost... except the fact they take money from you and I doubt they let you know.

They take an extra $20 in advance incase you go over the cap (so $20 for this, $20 for sim, $10 for sim delivery, and $20 for cap so first month costs $70). Then if your credit drops below $5 they automatically take $15+ to get it back up to $20. To bad if you're a day before your cap and you text someone and go to $4.75 and then they take out 15 bucks. If they try to top up your account to $20 and you don't have enough cash on your credit card then they deactivate your account and make you pay $20 to reactivate it.

They also charge $0.253 Per SMS. The .003 might seem insignificant but this could cause you to mis calculate and drop .03 cents below the $5 and have them take $15 out of your account. The problem with this is that gets turned into pure credit you paid for and so you make a call and there goes your $15 you paid for rather than your bonus out of your cap. Imagine losing $15 bucks in the last few days of the month because your text message cost an extra .003.

Also internet is $5000 per GB... get a wireless internet plan together for an extra 10 bucks for 500mb or something (optus gives 500mb in their 49 dollar caps anyway so 10 bucks is being generous). Also note unlike Optus international calls arn't included in the cap.

I am aware this plan is of a lower price but taking funds out if you go under $5 sucks and charging 0.253 for texts is sneaky. If they don't round the numbers it is harder to calculate how much you have spent = more chance of them taking $15 without telling you.

If you are porting the number in, it takes 24-48 hours BUT the downtime should be only a few mins – say up to 5 mins within this window after which new service is ready.

If you are transferring the number (ie is with optus already) it should take less time.

At this stage Soul customers will not be able to use existing SIM cards and mobile number at this stage. We will in the near future introduce a migration solution where out of contract customers or "special offer" customers can switch to the new TPG Mobile CAP Saver plans without having to change SIM card or number. Again, to confirm at this stage, new customers only . Should a Soul customer wish to take the service a new number and new SIM will be required.

what does call diversion cost mean?
does it mean if someone calls you and it diverts them to my voicemail, then it costs them that "diversion" rate to leave a voicemail message, or does it mean that it costs me for how long they speak or does it mean how much it cost me to leave a voicemail for someone else??

cheers

Yes, diversion cost will be incurred against the party who placed the call (rate for the diversion depends on the other parties carrier).

does it mean how much it cost me to leave a voicemail for someone else??
no customer will not be charged no matter how long the other party stay leaving voicemail. Same as for him leaving voicemail to the othey party's voicemail box (what we term as VOICEMAIL DEPOSIT, This feature is for free). The only time that a customer will be charged is when they do voicemail retrieval (VOICEMAIL WITHDRAWAL). This one costs $.29 per 30 seconds. Charges will be deducted on top of the $300 worth of calls included on the $49 Mobile Cap Saver Plan which costs $19.99/month.

Hope this helps.

They do?

Yea. Well ok my bad it is $50 not $49 and it is called a turbocharge not a cap:P By the way buy at Woolworths and it only costs you $45 instead of $50.

They normally give 100mb and they put it up to 500mb and I thought it was a temporary thing but I have got 500mb 2 months in a row now. That's why I think this is better for internet uses. But to make calls TPG mobile $20 cap is quite good but just don't make sure you get stung if you go under $5...

Also unlike a prepaid service if you had some spam premium content this would drain your entire credit card! TPG would keep taking the money out of your credit card until the thing is empty then suspend your service then charge you 20 bucks to put it back on. It offers little protection in that respect. Then again if that happens you could reverse the charges with your bank claiming you ordered no such service then it becomes someone elses problem.

Then if your credit drops below $5 they automatically take $15+ to get it back up to $20.

Correct me if i a wrong but is the $15 deducted from the CC when the call credits reach $49 , or is that $300 ?

I am a bit confused as whether once the call credits reach $49 or $300 the extra $15 is payable.

Please refer to our FAQ – http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/faq.html

$20 of call credit to cover calls outside your cap value. You will be charged for the services outside the CAP value and other fees towards your Account Balance. When your account balance falls below $5 (Trigger Amount), TPG will automatically top up your account with an amount sufficient to bring the account balance back to $20 (Account Balance). TPG will send you electronic confirmation of any automatic debit event. – http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/faq.html#1.3

True but if I am not near a computer it might cost me a hell of a lot of money to check my credit balance on my phone;) Especially if I am low. I wouldn't know if I was out and about and if i waste an mb+ finding out my credit balance I am up for over $5 already if I had to do it on my phone. but If i did it on my phone and then it drops below $5 since I already have low credit then I get charged $15+ again.

Also consider some idiot who didn't ready properly and didn't realise internet cost $5 an mb he could get his credit card drained. Sure his fault, but that could suck too. The lack of protection here is the problem.

Introduce some data packs for an extra cost and you might have yourself a good deal. Also if people can call to check their credit like every other phone company (for free) then this would make it worthwhile. Who really wants to risk their credit card.

Hi auscalt,

Please visit our TPG Mobile FAQ page for more info: http://tpg.com.au/mobile/faq.html#1.15

1.15. What happens when I use more than my cap allowance?
You will be charged for the calls made outside your cap allowance based on the call rates advertised. You will be charged, and funds will be taken out of your call credit as explained in the Billing section of the Mobile Phone FAQ.

I'm trying to sign up but I get this error at step 4:

Dates must have dd/mm/yyyy format

... when trying to enter my DOB. I get the error using either FF3 or IE7 on Windows.

On closer inspection, it looks like a badly-coded regexp on line 408 of https://cyberstore.tpg.com.au/register/mobile/scripts/mobile_registration.js:

frm4validator.addValidation("dob", "regexp=[0-3][0-9]\/[0-1][0-2]\/[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]", "Dates must have dd/mm/yyyy format");

It's incorrectly picking up the month range. Instead of [0-1][0-2] it should read [0-1][1-9].

But ideally, the script shouldn't be using a simple regexp like this at all, as it doesn't guarantee valid dates (e.g. 39/00/0999 would be valid).

I think I should get a free month or two for pointing this out ;)

So, to the TPG developers reading this, please make the same change on line 878 as well :)

It ain't fixed , it's still broken.

If it ain't fixed by this evening TPG have just lost a customer to sign up to their mobile plan.

so why does the website say

" Total minimum cost over 12 month contract term is $289.88 "

if i am using my current optus number then the minimum 12 month total cost should be $259.88 , that is $19.99 x 12 ( months ) + $20 = $259.88

either i can't do simple maths , i have missed something or TPG is doing a shifty.

any TPG rep want to work this one out for me before i sign up .

my guess is another problem with the TPG website at step 6 of this process.

edit: furthermore i hope those who have signed up to this mobile plan did see this 12 month minimum total cost if keeping/using their current Optus mobile number.

so basically does that mean i can't keep my SIM card with this mobile number , i will be forced to get a new SIM card just to keep the same mobile number.

well i thought the $20 + $10 related to new sims with new phone numbers.

it was not explicit on the website that there is a $20 + $10 cost even to keep the same number.

that's an extra $30 just to keep the same number , surely that is an outrageous rip.

now reassessing my needs for this mobile plan.

edit: where is the section which says that i can select to pick up the SIM from North Ryde.

Mobile Phone FAQ'S 1.3

TPG will debit your bank account/credit card for the following initial charges during the registration process.

. Delivery (if not collected from TPG 65 Waterloo Rd, North Ryde NSW 2113)

So TPG will instantly deduct this $10 delivery fee from your CC even if you want to pick up the SIM from the N.Ryde office. So if you go and pick up the SIM when is this $10 refunded .

I believe you may need to call sales to confirm this.

Nevertheless this plan is no doubt the cheapest thing in the market place, you would be a fool if you are still paying $49 on a cap plan- if you are out of contract.

Actually i signed up and asked for a new number.

This delivery option is mention on the final step , step 7 .

I just checked my TPG internet account and already there is a new page there titled

TPG Mobile Services
SIM Activation .

I'll check my CC account later and see if TPG deducted the total set up cost as yet.

I just received an email from TPG which says

Dear Customer,

Thank you for ordering the TPG mobile phone service.

Your order will be processed in the following stages:

1. Initial charging

2. When payment has been cleared, your SIM, Welcome Letter and (if
applicable) your handset will be shipped from our warehouse.

3. You will be sent an email informing you of the shipment and your new
phone number.

4. When your shipment arrives, you will need to activate the service. We
will send you a further email explaining how to do this.

Nevertheless this plan is no doubt the cheapest thing in the market place, you would be a fool if you are still paying $49 on a cap plan- if you are out of contract.

I completely agree with you here and that is why i snapped up this TPG mobile plan offer.

$19 for $300 of included mobile and landline calls , text , MMS etc.

It's a no brainer and a deal of the century.

Thanks for your advise/comments.

Cheers

Got my sim yesterday, activated it, no worries.
Been using it on my Jasjam since then; bloody terrific. I was on Optus Prepaid before this, which mean a $17 per MB data price and even THAT was only usable for the actual amount paid for the gap (ie, $50 out of $250 or whatever). So this is fantastic, even at $5 per MB.

Go TPG.

Hi all

on this we have: "Free calls to any TPG, Soul or Optus GSM mobile with 'yes' Time™ between 8pm to midnight, every day, for the first 20 minutes of each call." (http://tpg.com.au/mobile/plans.html)

but can our friend from optus call us for free (on 'yes' time), as we're all on the optus network?

on the optus website it says: 'yes' Time FREE 20 minute voice calls, 8pm – midnight from one Optus GSM Mobile to another within Australia. No flagfall applies.

Just wanted to make it clear, coz surely optus should allow their customers to make free calls to others that also uses 'yes' time.

Hope someone who is on this plan and has friends on optus that can help try this out. or a rep can clarify this, pls.

thanks,
K

I just got my SIM today , have activated it and now i wait for the service to be up and running.

As for the $10 delivery fee.

TPG state on their website

Mobile Phone FAQ'S

1.3 Delivery (if not collected from TPG 65 Waterloo Rd, North Ryde NSW 2113)

However TPG just deducted this $10 delivery fee instantly from my CC . On step 7 of the account plan registration process this was also mentioned that the customer could pick up the SIM from Nth Ryde , if not the $10 would be need to be payed to deliver the SIM.

TPG did not contact me in any way to ask whether i wanted to pay the $10 delivery fee or whether i wanted to pick up the SIM from the Nth Ryde office.

TPG just took the $10 whilst treating me like a mushroom.

Oh the hypocrisy and contradictions.

$10 for delivery. It was just a letter with the usual SIM attached on a credit card size plastic thingy in an envelop , and this apparently costs $10 for Aus Post to deliver.

I would like to hear from any TPG rep as to why i was not given the option to pick up the SIM and why it costs $10 to deliver a bit of plastic on a letter in an envelop ?

Just another way to milk the customer .

Just signed up with them over the phone, the rep told me the website had been having some issues.
He was very good, explained it all to me and took no more than 5 minutes.

I have an existing Optus number (x2) that was ported across so I will have the same number, with the same carrier and saving a fortune !!
I did not need a new phone, my one works fine.
I never use heaps of data so everyone screaming about $5 per gb doesn't concern me.
I still get Optus Yes Time and use that all the time with family and friends, so for $20 per month TPG are charging, for me this is the BEST plan I have seen in ages.

Only one down fall, I had a company account with Optus and under the one account I had 2 mobile numbers. TPG cant do that, they needed to set up two different accounts. They said they can only do that if you have 3 mobiles or more with them.... I can live with that !!!

Over all for me this is a great experience so far and all those complaining about the $20 SIM fee and $10 delivery fee....BIG DEAL ... I am saving that anyway by paying $30 less on a $49 cap that Optus would have charged me....

Hi – Can you tell me if when you retrieve your voicemail and decide to ring the person back (through your voicemail...you know, press whichever number to call back), are you charged both for the call time (as usual) PLUS the time you're still connected through your voicemail?

I ask because with my husband's current Telstra account (don't ask – work phone), his messagebank was being charged for the time he was connected as well as his "call" being charged. When he's driving and using handsfree, he can just hit the number and call back, but it was getting pricey.

Telstra seems to have stopped that now and it's a flat rate, but I'd still like to know.
thanks

Well i called TPG and said that about 4 hours ago i logged onto my TPG account and activated my SIM but i can't make any calls. Miss TPG asked for my account password and said she will activate the SIM from her end. Miss TPG said to wait for about 30 to 60 minutes for the mobile service to be enabled.

I also asked her what my SIM mobile phone number is as the letter did not disclose the phone number.

Miss TPG gave me my mobile number.

5 minutes later i was able to make calls.

What i have i learnt throughout this experience today.

1. Activating the SIM through my online TPG account was pointless as it did not activate the SIM.

2. TPG could not even be bothered to inform me in the letter today what my mobile number is. How hard would it be to write this in the letter.

As i write this a email from TPG just arrived informing me of the mobile number.

Anyways enough said i'm off to sink one quarter of a slab.

The Immortal Prophet: In my experience with working for an optus dealer, they can only see the mobile number for the customer during activation. So if the sim card you get in the mail hasn't been activated then, there's no mobile number assigned to it yet.

Where does it say about the $5/MB? I can't find it on the TPG website. Also, how is this calculated?

Is it like.. once we start using it, we'll get charged $5 straight away?
What if our session was only, say.. 200KB?
How long do you keep the sessions for?

Or is it calculater per Kilobyte? I am a bit lost. Cause sometimes I do use the internet for emergencies, like if I needed to check my email for something when internet isn't available around me, and usually it doesn't reach 1MB.

I can't see any $5 per MB.

I only see this " $0.05 Per 10KB session " on the website which does equate to $5 per MB.

Is it like.. once we start using it, we'll get charged $5 straight away?

Not entirely sure , but i am guessing no and it will charged at the $0.05 per KB rate.

There seems to be an issue with my Mobile Phone Plan/Account , yet again.

My SIM was activated on Wednesday ( 2 days ago ) at about 6pm.

However i have been logging into my account and there does not seem to be a section whereby i can see the calls i have made and or how much of my cap i have used so far this billing month.

Is there something further i must do to bring this into my account so i can view all the information ?

I think TPG hates me because i have had many issue signing up to and activating this mobile phone service.

Can anyone please advise me further about getting the usage information into my TPG account.

The 150gig plan that was said to be unsustainable has been on the market for more than 1 year as well.

Well i couldn't resist so i called TPG.

I asked where is the mobile phone call / usage details when i log into my account.

Mr TPG told me that the engineers are working on this part of the website and it is not available just yet. I asked Mr TPG when will this be available in my account. Mr TPG said " maybe this week " I asked so in the meantime how do i check my account usage details ?. Mr TPG said there is a SMS number which can send this info to the phone. I was put me on hold , Mr TPG came back and asked for my customer ID number , which i gave and said " oh this is not working either".

Honestly there is a certain level of unprofessionalism here from TPG regarding this mobile phone plan.

TPG are quick to rush this mobile plan into the market yet can not even have all features of this service operating properly. I mean look at the DOB issues on the website during the sign up process on Monday.

Maybe that's why TPG reps have not attended to my previous requests for assistance regarding these matters as they know things are still not fully fumctional.

I signed up for TPG mobile and so far it's been a nightmare! Please be warned if you are thinking of signing up.

My CallerID does not work – every single incoming call I receive is specified as (no number). I have called TPG support on numerous occasion and they told me that they are aware of this problem with some customers and are working on fixing it – nothing has been done yet though!

Also I have the same problem as others – there is no call usage in my account page even though my SIM has been activated!

Please be aware of these issues before you sign up. I've never had any issues with TPG internet over the last 4 years so I thought I might try their mobile service – HUGE mistake! Yes I know I'm foolish for jumping in so early!

Well last week came and went.

Yet we still can't view our phone account usage details from within our TPG account.

When will this be ready for us ? Who knows.

I would be interested to hear from TPG themselves as to exactly what step they are up to in implementing this feature into our accounts.

TPG saying they are addressing this problem with intentions to resolve the issue does not clearly indicate to us as to what timeframe we must wait before having access to this account feature.

How many more weeks must we wait ?

If this feature is not accessible by my next monthly payment ,which
