Hi all,
anyone else having problems sending emails out?
I went to the aanet website and to the forums as we are directed to do and got this message:
Server currently offline
The web server hosting the web page you have requested is currently experiencing problems. The problem is being looked at, and will be resolved as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience while we get the server back online.

I am waiting for an email and decided to send some out while I am waiting – they are still in my inbox -

I am not gettting an error message it stays there trying to send it

I am using smtp.aanet.com.au

I am using outlook

I am in the Central Coast

Actually.... there is no need to suffer using aaNet email. Just set yourself up with Gmail and all your worries will be behind you, especially when you change to another ISP provider and you are unable to take your email address with you. There is no need and no point in using your ISP's email, especially aaNet where there are often trouble for users.

There are some uses where an ISP email will be beneficial. A number of web forums/communities will not allow web based email signups. However using gmail with your own domain would be a work around to this.

This is perfectly true.
Opening a Gmail account or any other web based email seems to be a must when joining Aanet.
I have been with numerous other ISP's but Aanet have been the only one with constant email issues.
As with most ISP's you have to have an email address linked to your internet account, it just would be nice for a change if I could access that one email account without any drama's.

Well I have not noticed sending Emails so much it is more receiving Emails. I have about 6 Email accounts and displaying the progress in Microsoft Outlook always shows that one address was not accessed .
However wait an hour or two and this time a different Email address will not be availble.

If you want a particular Email address incoming try webb mail.

May even work with outgoing mail?.

The question is why is it still Broken?

It has become somewhat embarrassing to me because I have recommended a number of customers of mine to sign up with aanet over the past year.

I think I read something idiotic by a rep of aanet back a while that said something along the lines of "we dont consider mail to be an issue its a freebie thrown in" – oh brother did he have his head in the sand.

Many of my customers sign up just so they can use ONLY Email – it has become such an important method of communication these days, in my work NOTHING comes in the front door anymore in the form of paperwork – it is sent by Internet either in the form of invoices, accounts and all those types of items.

Its now becoming a daily grind to try to get emails in and out with speed and expedience – aanet, wake up and fix the problem its not that hard.

If you are happy with your broadband then an alternative is to use a free email service.

If you choose gmail/yahoo.com.au/hotmail/lavabit.com or another free (or paid if that is your preference) email provider then do it now and rid yourself of ISP email. In truth there is no need to change ISP if you are otherwise happy with their service.... I myself use a free account with http://lavabit.com and have had no problems.

Get it right aanet after the last upgrade you have no more excuses.

And why are people so ignorant as to why people would want to use an isp email rather than hotmail/gmail etc. If you are a business user not only are those emailos unacceptable and unprofessional, a lot of the time they would not even get through to a company as they are blocked.

So yes it is an ESSENTIAL part of services from the ISP.

Where are the reps?

How hard is it to fix an email server problem??

I've had problems with my emails for 5 days now and tonight I can't get into my emails at all. I keep getting the same damn message over and over and over again. "The connection to server has failed. Account 'mail.netcall.com.au' Server mail.netcall.com.au Protocol POP3, Port 110 Secure (SSL) No, Socket Error 10060, Error number 0x800CCOE"

Well, the same, cant check some mail boxes.

Been like this off and on for a couple of days now or since my last post.

I think there has been some SPAM attack.

Why do I think this? well my billion router check email feature said there was over a million emails in one of my accounts.

Perhaps the mail server has a nasty virus, but either way something is up.

So theres an abvious email issue, no response for several hours here, no response except an unofficial notice that there is a problem on Aanet's own forums and in either case, not so much as an basic explanation as to the cause of the issues..........WTF is going on Aanet, this is poor service, poor feedback and just simply not good enough.
Email is an integral part of the service that you supply and that we, as end users, pay for, why has this been such a long standing issue, how about some sort of explanation here guys

No email today, the servers gone away
My email stands for lorn, a symbol of the dawn
No email today, it seems a common sight
But people passing by don't know the reason why

How could they know just what this message means
The end of my emails, the end of all my dreams
How could they know the palace there had been

No email today, it wasn't always so
The company was gay, got emails night and day

Still issues down here in Vic. I don't know if this happened to anyone else but it seemed to have wiped my details of my email acct at one stage and I had to go back in and reset my password. Perhaps that was user error, but I dont think so.

I dont use my aanet email very much but I do use it, and it's a shame that it's not working.

I sent this to the aaNet forum about 30 minutes ago.
However, it seems service and difficulties are being redirected to this forum so I ask again.

Due to the fact that the email server is not responding correctly, I logged into my email addresses ( primary and secondary ) via webmail.
My primary email address shows 154 emails stored on the server since 1st May, 2008.
My secondary email address shows 36 messages stored since 1st May, 2008.

I deleted all the secondary email messages up to today.
My primary webmail disconnected after a while and before I could start to delete messages.

I checked my email settings. Running Evolution on Ubuntu 7.10 with latest updates.
Evolution is set to "Store messages on the server" and "Delete after 14 days", email is connecting to "mail.aanet.com.au".

My primary email messages are still stored on the server since 1st May, 2008.
Could this be a problem with Evolution, or could this be a problem with the mail server ???

Thanks for the response.
Nil, zero, nix response on the recommended forum (aaNet) for difficulties and faults, yet.

Do you think this is an Evolution problem or the aaNet email server problem ??
Is your email set up to store on the server and delete messages after a certain time ??

this is utter crap!!!!! I use aanet webmail when i'm offsite to do buisness with, when it doesn't work, I cannot get paid.

I want to be re-imbursed for the outage, as I'm paying for a service that aanet is not delivering.

Whaaaoooooo there Me arty!

You are dealing with a company. You are a source of income for them.

NOTHING MORE!

Them give you money? HA! This is earth, not heaven.

As for the information on the forum about this email rubbish system (YOU ARE PAYING FOR) – just crap. nothing more.

(Of course they will argue the point – defensively)

You're paying for the Internet service, the email is a free add-on:

http://www.aanet.com.au/index.html

15 free email addresses with every account.

Also:

http://www.aanet.com.au/sfoa.html

3.4 We do not warrant that the service will be provided on an uninterrupted or fault-free basis.

Hi John.

In accordance with the spirit of the aaNet forum ( a self help forum for members and others ) I am hoping that the information I have supplied in my post above may shed some light on the present dilemma.

I am told that it works now – but that performance is degraded. In any case, we agree that it is totally unacceptable.

Tonight some time.

As you can see John there are a lot of people visibly upset by this debacle. The last time there was large delays we were told that you were waiting on a part. When the part finally came it was the wrong one. The cluster was finally installed and now it has fallen over with an inadequate reduncancy in place.

If you are admitting a management failure does that mean your tech guys wanted more equipment and you failed to purchase it? Or does it mean that your technical support is inadequate and you are in damage control. Email is a huge area and deserves to be run by a specialist.

It is good of you as GM to come and give some information to your customers. Yet this discontent has been brewing and growing stronger for some time now. I would suggest there is also an issue of Communication here also. What level of perceived need is there at aanet needing to communicate reliably to its customers. You have a Forum that provided very little information whilst the users here at Whirlpool were screaming for answers.

I hope to see this situation improve as I enjoy aanet is my provider but am disappointed with the email...and the communication. I have clients I would like to refer to you but must hesitate due to these issues.

Kind Regards,

James Ising

And why are people so ignorant as to why people would want to use an isp email rather than hotmail/gmail etc. If you are a business user not only are those emailos unacceptable and unprofessional, a lot of the time they would not even get through to a company as they are blocked.

Not ignorant, just means that the companies who block my gmail won't receive it. Their problem.

I could send a snailmail instead if I knew which colour stamps they require on the envelope.

So it appears that there has been a hardware failure and a management failure. We apologise for both – but most emphatically for the latter

Thanks for the update on this issue John, I look forward to our email being 'back on the air' again. We are encouraged to use the aanet forum for 'first port of call', just the information we find here and I'm very disappointed that it is so scarse of any detail. The same applies to the Qld DNS problem of last weekend. So while you are looking at "management failures", I would very much appreciate the aanet forum working again as designed.

It's not everyday that a company admits that they are at fault as John has done. Just wait it out everyone – it's not really the end of the world. The service from AANet is usually very good for a discount ISP. I was with Exetel for sometime and if you want to experience poor service, they were the king of it.

Just my 2c worth...

Well here it is now friday evening. I first posted on wednesday when I had been without the email service for 2 days. I am still unable to check my emails through outlook express but I did finally manage to check them via webmail.
With the DNS, Proxy and email troubles I am beginning to wonder if a made the right choice with Aanet...
Oh well, time will tell.

I am concerned that the aanet forums and help desk are inaccessible. Especially when the aanet forum requires a working email address in order to register. I have only joined aanet in the past few weeks and have experienced more days where email doesn't work than when it does. Is this the norm? Very concerned, contracted customer. aanet also seem to be unwiling to be contacted, unless of course it is by email, which doesn't work! What will happen to the emails that I thought were sent successfully? Will they make it to destination?

I believe they will. The email is queued and is it the length of the queue that is the problem (spam never rests and it all has to be processed as well).

Once again,

Thanks John, email now seems to be working fine and fast as ever.

Guys and gals, stuff happens, in fact, it happens everywhere else too.

How often? well, usually when it does we put up with it and if it happens again we get very upset and our feeling attenuates which is normal.

Lets at least acknowledge both the communication and effort here to keeping customers happy, I know I am (again), so CHEERS~!

It's now Saturday morning and my emails STILL don't bleeding work!!!
I get that same damn message I've been getting for days. and days and days....

I've had enough. As soon as my subscription runs out next month I'm getting the hell out of aanet. I'm paying good money for a service they just are NOT providing. And that is NOT acceptable.

To anyone considering changing to aanet as a service provider....... DON'T!!!!

It is working again for me in Melbourne. Albeit a bit slow. Still it isn't timing out.

I still find overall their plans more than reasonable. Actually the service has been more reliable of late except for this email glitch. I deliberately moved to gmail as primary email after the hassle of swapping ISP's. Simply forwarding mails to current mail box or directly accessing them via gmail. That make a cheap ISP overall not too much hassle.

I got a few e-mails early this morning. But service is gone again! I'm a new customer, signed up for 12 months. Feeling very anxious. Wishing I had used a different provider. Why do aanet seem keen to pat themselves on the back when we still have poor service. I will give credit, when credit is due. No sooner.

the thing i find difficult to comprehend is that aaNet are able to provide a rock solid stable connection with sound uptime with every server EXCEPT the mail server. It consistantly has some form of failure and cannot cope with load... this is my only gripe with aaNet

Oh god this is so ANNOYING!!!!!

I was able to download some messages a couple of hours ago, but now.... NOTHING. Nothing, nada, zip can't get into my emails at all. Getting that same error message I've been getting for days.
This is getting beyond frustrating.

Aanet I want a refund.
I want a refund for services NOT provided.

This email debacle has been going on for days and then there was the new mail replacement server debacle a month or so ago. It's not good enough. What the hell am I paying you money for???
