After about 2 years of stable ADSL, this morning found that I was no longer getting information from the Internet. Did all the usual of reseting computers and modems (duplicated everything in fault finding) without any success.

I connected the Speedster 4200 that came with the OPTUS DSL connection some time ago, and ran the diagnostic.

It reported the PPPoE issue (below).

For what the help desk is worth, they said that there was no problems reported in the Optusnet service for my area (NSW near Canberra).

Where do I go from here??

Sounds like what's called a timeout fault. What are the lights doing on the modem? Did the call centre log a fault for you? If not, what reason did they give and what did they ask you to do next?

It's actually the SpeedStream 4200 DSL modem. The lights are PWR, ETHernet, DSL (all constant green), and Activity (flashing green).

Optus has logged a fault #---still waiting for any response.

..yeah, that was me, heh.
Call centre guy reset my account, ran isol. test, then did some test without anything plugged in; said it was a dslam problem, and they were fixing it.
And sure enough, net was back after 5 hours.
I'm at the Granville dslam i think, if that helps.

..so basically, the problem magically disappeared (probably with some assistance from Optus' end), but I'm not entire sure what the problem is with your net. I did call someone across the road, but I don't know which provider they were with, but their net was fine when I had the problem.
